Inviting the Devil by Gabriella Bradley

Was it normal for a fashion designer to ask a new model to strip so he could inspect her from head to toe to get a feel for her shape, size and sensitivities?Bumping into her boss, causing her portfolio to fall and the drawings she’d secretly worked on during her breaks to scatter was accidental. But oh, what a welcome accident. Danea’s career dreams are realized when the man she’s drooled over and fantasized about for two years while working in administration wants to see all her sketches. Not only does Kalem Ostarizo, the world’s top fashion designer, hire her for his design team, but wants her to model for House of Ostarizo. Danea happily signs a one-year contract for each position but is shocked when she finds out the obedience clause she agreed to involves more than just obeying the rules.

The Challenge (Her Surrender) by Terri Pray

Mark works for the company Linda Sasson owns. Linda is even his boss. This doesn’t stop Mark from crossing he lines. He wants Linda as a slave and serving his every need. Mark is a Dom who dances on the edge of the BDSM club rules. He never fully crosses the line, but it appears he thinks about it so often he needs to remind himself not to get banned. Yet Mark seems to be a respected dominant since he’s demonstrated on the stage many times.

Linda is a strong professional woman who is looking to explore her submissive side. She makes the mistake of exploring this with Mark. The reason why it comes across as a mistake is because Mark is anything but a trustworthy dominant in this story. Since this is the first book in the series, it is not clear if he’s designed to be this way for a reason or if he is really this much of a domineering jerk.

This story’s BDSM scenes are fine and as expected from the talented Ms. Pray. What is unexpected is the mixed message. The story comes across initially like a romance story with a guy looking for his one submissive. He’s tired of the meaningless domination without the connection. Yet his actions and his dialog do not match his inner musings. He turns into the classic bad Dom newbies to the lifestyle are warned about. He is abusive and manipulative with his ulterior motives. It’s not non consensual nor dubious consensual. If the story’s beginning, middle and end were all in the theme of non con or dub con, it would have been fine. The switch a third of the way through the story made it a difficult read.

While the writing and sex were decent and gives this a rating of 3 Stars and Paddles, from a reader perspective, there was no enjoyment. This book neither aroused nor amused. Instead, a feeling of dread and ill at ease seemed to be the only emotions for this reader. This is a surprise since Ms. Pray’s books are generally well received. Perhaps the next installment will bring light to the reason behind this book’s set up. With how this tale ended, Mark is on a fast meeting with a bullet in the head from a gun – my Sig. This short BDSM story is for kinky readers who enjoy the breaking of a confident woman.

Fatal Submission by Nicole Austin

Story Rating – 3.5 out of 5 paddles

Sting Factor (kink): 3 out of 5

Fatal Submission is first and foremost an erotic horror story with a BDSM setting. Overall it is a fairly well written book with a solid storyline and fully drawn characters, but if you’re looking for an erotic tale with lots of hot sex and BDSM scenarios, this is probably not for you.  For nearly the entire first half of the book the only erotic scene involves relatively tame phone sex, which is sandwiched between the scenes building up to the damsel in distress segment.

Claire is a wannabe sub who becomes frustrated with the slow pace her prospective dom is taking to initiate her into the BDSM world and his life. As a consequence, when she meets another dom who seems to “get” her, and who is open to giving her what she craves right away, the impulsive and impatient Claire decides to go for it. Unfortunately, he is Mr. Wrong in spades, a serial murderer with his own personal dungeon where consensual TPE is an alien concept and things end badly for subs that visit there.

Thankfully, the goings on in the dungeon are largely glossed over or alluded to rather than chronicled in gory detail. As it happens, Claire’s dom of preference is ex-military, co-owns a security company, and has been searching for his missing cousin, a previous victim of Mr. Wrong we are to learn, so with relative dispatch he manages to track Claire down and save the day (yes, I am cynical).

Since the entire experience is traumatic for both Claire and her dom-to-be, a period of healing takes place after the rescue before they finally consummate their D/s relationship. Whereas the scene in question is sexy and sensual, it is not significantly more intense in terms of BDSM than the phone sex interlude.

The author, Nicole Austin, has written quite a few books, which judging by their titles would generally be considered erotic romance. Realistically, that category more or less fits Fatal Submission as well, even with the horror component. For me, this book is a little too touchy feely, but to be fair it is well crafted and undoubtedly appeals to readers with different sensibilities than mine.

This was a pleasant little romp with a strong heroine, sexy hero and enjoyable story line.

Denise Shaw has patiently built up her horse training practice at her family ranch and has spent her entire life fighting against controlling men.  Enter Brody Kyle, a loner and womanizer who wants to win the rodeo circuit championship buckle in order to obtain enough money to buy his own ranch.  Shuffled from foster home to foster home as a child, his goal is a place of his own.  Then his horse must be put down after a terrible accident, and he is not skilled enough to train his new mount in time to ride him in the circuit.  So he enlists Denise’s help.

The spark between the two of them ignites into a conflagration, in spite of the fact that Brody is definitely in charge in the bedroom.  The rest of the time, he considers Denise his equal.

But can the two lovers overcome her need for control outside the bedroom and his haphazard past in order to make a future with each other?

The BDSM in the book is very light, consisting mostly of bondage, but the sex scenes are hot, and the story well written enough to hold your attention.

Holy sizzling hot shifter sex! This short story is a flaming hot kinky read. Sarah McIntire returns to her hometown while her father is on vacation for a month. Since she followed her father’s footsteps to become a veterinarian, she can easily cover for him. Her first patient with a pregnant mare leads her to Grant LaCroix. Relatively new, Grant owns the old Anderson spread. Grant’s immediate confrontational attitude puts Sarah off. Despite his less than warm welcome, Sarah’s focus is on the ailing mare with a breech foal.

Sarah and Grant’s initiation interaction is rough and it only becomes rougher when the sun sets. Grant’s family is cursed with their males shifting into some kind of demon creature. Basically, Grant hulks out and his hulk form is a Dom. From the time Sarah and Grant’s hulk form get it on, it is one smexy ride.

The shifted sex in this book is hot. It’s not often an author will cross the lines in this delightfully deviant manner. This is what really makes the book stand out from other shifter paranormal books. The BD in this book is not as expected and is a great flip between who is restrained and who is not. The plot of this book holds no surprises. It’s an easy read with likeable characters. This book is more than just a few BDSM kinky shifter sex scenes. The back history is the foundation of this world building and it will be interesting to see what will follow.  Adding in secondary characters from the town also helps build this story to be more than just a man and woman getting their rocks off. It helps build a home for these characters.

The main drawback to this book is that it is too short. It would have been nice to learn more about Grant’s brother and how Grant decided to buy Anderson’s home. Hopefully there will be more exploration of Grant’s other self and its abilities. If the next book would be twice as long with more character development and more world building, this would help attract more readers. The hook already exists with smexy shifter sex. This paranormal romance is for kinky readers who like to dance on the line of taboo.

Letting Go 2: Stepping Stones by Michele Zurlo

[Siren Classic: Erotic Consensual BDSM Romance, with MFM and MMF elements not involving hero and heroine, public exhibition, flogging, spanking, sex toys, HEA]

Sabrina Spencer has it all—a loving husband, two wonderful children, and a successful career. So why does her husband think she’s not as happy as she could be? Jonas knows that Sabrina should love her life, but as the stress of “having it all” wears on her, he knows he has to do something. Surprising her with a trip to Elysium, a kinkster’s paradise, for their fifth anniversary seems like the perfect thing.
From the beginning, this trip seems doomed. First she rejects the gift. When he finally gets her there and she agrees to spend five days as his complete submissive, he thinks he can finally show her how she can truly have it all. At first Sabrina enjoys submitting to the man she loves, but when it becomes too much and she shuts down, Jonas must use everything in his arsenal to break through to the woman who holds the keys to his heart.
Sabrina peeked out the window of her breakfast nook. In the distance, past the deck, the trellis bursting with tangerine and white roses, and a large expanse of lawn, the sun glinted on the water, beckoning her closer.
With the kids at her in-laws for the afternoon, she had some free time, and it had been a few days since she’d been able to get in a good, punishing workout in the water. She opted for a bikini—the hot-as-hell pool boy was due sometime today—grabbed a towel, and rushed to the pool.
As she got closer, she noticed the man with a long pole stuck into the water, and she slowed her pace. Too late. Now she would have to wait for the pool boy to finish cleaning it before she could swim.
With a sigh, she heaved herself onto a lounger and sent a baleful look in his direction. He wasn’t supposed to show up until later, after she’d worked out. She had plans to pull herself, dripping wet, out of the water, throwing her hair back so that the sun caught some of the highlights. She’d squeeze away the excess, letting it drip over her breasts to draw his gaze to the gentle swells there.
He’d ruined everything by showing up early. There was so little variety in her life. She spent most of the day looking after her one- and three-year-olds, and the chance to put herself on display to torment the pool boy was one opportunity she hated missing. While her afternoon wouldn’t be completely ruined, she did prefer to do things her way.
After all, a girl had to have fun, right? Her husband worked long hours and traveled all the time, so she had to get her kicks however she could.
“Good afternoon, Mrs. Spencer.” He grinned at her from across the pool.
He wasn’t wearing a shirt. She spent some time admiring the way his lithe, lean muscles bunched and strained as he methodically worked his way toward the far end of the pool. The tan darkening his skin testified to many hours spent under the punishing rays of the sun.
Her gaze traveled lower, taking in the way his shorts hung low on his hips. Too low. One tug and she’d catch an eyeful. The hipbones jutting forward were tanned as well. It made her wonder if his gorgeous ass enjoyed the same freedom.
“Armand, I thought I told you to not wear those shorts anymore. They’re positively scandalous.” She spoke to him in a tone that managed to be both haughty and lazy. “And put a shirt on. My husband will not look kindly upon you if he sees you walking around here almost naked.”
He didn’t respond. Nothing in the set of his shoulders or the tilt of his mouth gave her a hint as to his reaction, but she knew he had one. She knew he’d heard her. He hadn’t stopped looking at her for a single second.
After forever, he extracted the vacuum from the pool and set it on the concrete patio. Ever so slowly, he rounded the pool, not stopping until his shadow loomed over her. This close, she could see the danger glittering from his olive-green eyes. They were hazel normally, but they tended toward green under most circumstances. When he was feeling amorous, they often turned topaz.
“Mrs. Spencer, your husband is half a world away. And you know as well as I do that you like when I wear these shorts. You think they’re sexy. After all, you bought them for me.” Like a cobra, his hand shot out. He caught the end of the string tied behind her neck to hold up her bikini top, and he tugged.
She felt the small pop that indicated it was no longer tied. She knew she should put her hands over the fabric to shield herself before he peeled the scrap of material away, but she was paralyzed by the hard expression on his face. The planes and angles that made up his face were what some might call handsome. She might think it, but she knew better than to say it to his face. And his lips were positively sensual. She imagined what they’d feel like traveling down her neck, sucking her nipple inside, and then slipping lower.
“Armand, this is highly inappropriate. My husband wouldn’t like this.”
The mask slipped away for a second, revealing Jonas’s humor at her remark. They hadn’t planned to role-play today. She knew he was pleased with her improvisation, and she loved how quickly he’d understood both what she was doing and what she wanted from him.
“He’s a busy man, your husband. I’m doing him a favor by putting you in your place.” With that, he tugged again, and the strings holding up her top came loose. “I’m going to make you beg, Mrs. Spencer.”
Oh lord, she was moist. It only took one look from him to make her knees weak, and he was using it on her now. Thank goodness they’d stocked the pool house with the necessary equipment.
She’d wrangled her hair into a braid to make it easier to get under her swim cap. Reaching back, he grasped her by the long rope and pulled, urging her to stand up. He turned her around, so that her back was to his front, and he guided her back against him. Only then did it become apparent exactly how hard his muscles were. Before she could think to struggle, he banded one iron arm around her midsection.
Because she was half a foot shorter, her head fit neatly under his chin. He rested it on her now, another tool to keep her close. “Last chance, Mrs. Spencer.”
“Really?” She didn’t honestly think he’d let her off the hook so easily. Men as dominant and virile as this didn’t take kindly to her haughtiness.
He chuckled, a low, sinister laugh. “No, not really. Your fate is sealed.”
With that, he peeled away the fabric clinging to her breasts and squeezed one hard, his callused palm scraping her sensitive skin. She whimpered with the effort it cost to not beg for more.
He ground his pelvis into her ass, and she realized he was hard and ready. That could only mean one thing.

My Liege of Dark Haven by Cherise Sinclair
Story Rating: 5 out of 5 paddles
Sting Factor (kink): 5 out of 5
It is an awesome author who can create a world so real you hate to leave it when the book ends, but that is exactly what Cherise Sinclair has done with My Liege of Dark Haven. The book is part of her Masters of the Mountain series.
From the opening scenes when Abby steps foot into Dark Haven to conduct research on the BDSM for a sociology paper to the role-playing capture scene near the end, Sinclair weaves a tale of a submissive who learns to accept herself in spite of betrayal, and a Dom who regrets the mistakes that hurt his submissive-even when he doesn’t want to accept that she is his.
Abby has been dumped by her boyfriend, and needs to write a paper to keep her teaching job. Since her boyfriend left because she would not become involved in BDSM, she decides to do her paper on the topic of the lifestyle. She figures since the scenes are played out in public, there will be no harm in observing. She is dismayed to find a long waiting time to become a club member, but by-passes that by volunteering to serve as receptionist.
Xavier, the most power Dom and owner of Dark Haven, lost his wife under unhappy circumstances four years ago and now keeps his women compartmentalized-some for the Club, some to train for other masters, some to date socially. His new receptionist, Abby, is the first woman to start crossing those lines, and he finds himself drawn to her more and more. But can their relationship survive her deception and his apparent betrayal?
There are some unusual BDSM scenes in the book, including chemical play, and, as usual with Cherise Sinclair, the sex scenes sizzle off the pages. But the emotional draw is the real key to this book. Abby is delightful, and Xavier is shown as both tender and caring, in spite of being such a powerful Dom he can wear the “My Liege” title without question. Some of the secondary characters are so appealing that we want to read more about them and we revisit some friends from previous books in the series, although this is completely a stand-alone title.
The book was so powerful that after reading the last page, I started right back at the beginning and read it again. This was a masterpiece, written by an author with a powerful voice, and a sense of character that has to be experienced to understand.

He knows the Resistance is his only hope of escaping his tormentors, and he’s just as sure Spring is part of the Resistance. He will seduce her, captivate and pleasure her, until she will no longer consider leaving him behind.

I was excited when I came across this in our review pile as it is a sci-fi erotica/romance and there are not a lot of these, especially good ones.  I was a little nervous as this is the 3rd book in a series and I am not a big fan of reading books out of order, I am a chronological kind of girl *grins*  However, it was very easy to pick up what was going on and get a feel for the series.

One of the cool ideas in this book is that the resistance uses succubi so that their operators can do  undercover work without having to fully sacrifice themselves, especially since most females are sold as pleasure slaves under the invasion.  They didn’t go into this a lot, my guess/hope is they do in a previous book as it was a great idea that I would want to explore more.  In fact, I wish the book itself was longer so we could delve deeper into the characters and their world.

The love story itself was not new or revolutionary, but it was well done and you wanted the characters to get together.  Our hero is a dominant alpha male, and there is some light bondage and anal play.

I would recommend this book, and will definitely be looking into reading the rest of the series and more by this author.
