A Very Demon Halloween (Demon Hunters) by Evanne Lorraine

Story Rating: 4 out of 5 paddles

Sting Factor (kink): 3 out of 5

Dragons are one of the hottest shifters and I adore them.  A paranormal romance book with a dragon shifter plus BDSM is a must read.  In this third Hunters book, Duec, the leader of the hunters, finally reveals his demon type.  He’s actually not a demon but a dragon.  But wait, there is more.  He’s a dragon king.

This hot dominant dragon Duec wants something he thinks he can not have – Belinda.  Belinda is a Domme in his exclusive BDSM club, La Ceinture Noire.  This club cateers to the paranormal kind and still lets in humans for fun.  He’s watched the traumatized half-elf female grow into a sexy Dominatrix.  Belinda is in love with Duec since he rescued her from the goblins.  Growing up under his watchful eye, she doesn’t think she’ll have a hope to be his submissive.  Then again, can she submit to him when she’s a dominant?

Ms. Lorraine does a lovely job adding more pieces to this world she’s created.  It’s a magical world filled with demons, elves, witches, goblins and a dragon.  The added kinky twist is an erotic delight.  This is a smooth and easy read with smexy D/s scenes.  The tasty forced m/m under Belinda’s control is a nice touch.  The images of decadent gothic dungeons and castles make the story richer.

The conflict in this story is believable if predictable.  The mating bond is also expected and provides the desired happily ever after.  This fairy tale romance with an icy Domme submitting to an Alpha Dom is sweet and very enjoyable.  The BDSM is light and just right for those who want their paranormal romance to kick it up a notch.  This shifter romance is recommended for kinky readers who enjoy mating bonds and strong Alpha males.

Tie Me Down by Cerise DeLand

Story Rating: 3.5 out of 5 paddles

Sting Factor (kink): 4 out of 5

Rancher Case Turner is a shibari master who prefers his partners submissive, silent and lush. When he meets an outspoken, curvy lawyer from Austin, he’s wild to capture the colorful creature he calls his butterfly. His cho. Yearning to tie her up nice and tight. And defying the rule of the single men in Bravado that they share desirable women, Case plans to keep Samantha Marlowe all for himself.

Sam has a big, bad aversion to Dominants, so resisting Case’s magnetism seems like a wise idea. Yet Case, who usually binds his women to him in erotic public exhibitions, lures her with sweet-talk and humor. Case becomes the lover Sam told herself she’d never have—kind and tender.

But Case wants to tie up her heart, as well as her body—and she’s ready to bolt. If Case puts his heart on the line as well, Sam might admit there’s no rope stronger than love to tie her down.

‘Tie Me Down’ is the second book in the Knights in Black Leather series by Cerise DeLand.  This is an enjoyable sexy read. I think this story would have been stronger if the author explored more of the idea that several men in the area share one women, besides just Cara MacRae. The implications were that this type of relationship was common in this town.  I would have liked the author to explore the idea of Joel joining Case and Samantha more.  Cerise DeLand started to explore that idea of sharing Samantha because Case and Joel had a discussion in regards to that.  What the author did not get into was Samantha’s reactions to the idea.

At times the story had a hard time keeping my interest. There was a lot in the story that was either not addressed or unsaid.  The author did try to maintain your interest, but it only seemed like when she noticed there was a lag in the story. It makes me wonder if some of the problems were addressed in the first book (which I did not read).  Overall though this was an enjoyable read.

Starfish and Coffee by Kele Moon

Story Rating: 4 out of 5 paddles

Sting Factor (kink): 3 out of 5

Slice my heart into ribbons and then pour salt into the wounds as I lay crushed.  This is how I felt through many parts of this book.  Alex and Matt spend a summer of kinky love together.  Matt is the rich boy slumming with the “local” boys by working as a short order cook in a rundown café.

Ms. Moon writes lovely moving books for me.  She spends time building the characters and showing how their family and choices lead them to where they are today.  She invokes emotions from the start of the book.  Within the third page, my heartstrings are already yanked hard.  “He looked up, seeing Matt’s handsome face fade away and turn to dust.  He reached frantically for Matt’s shoulders, once powerful l and strong.  Alex’s fingers slipped through the air, clutching at emptiness.  Matt was nothing but a memory now, and Alex had known it.  It’d been years since he’d gotten more than just a taste of love lost in these nighttime fantasies; even his subconscious was jaded and burned.” Now if that doesn’t immediately set the tone for love lost, I don’t know what does.  Ms. Moon definitely knows how to show rather than tell.

Alex is a carefree boy who wants to enjoy life and he does to its fullest.  Meeting Matt and falling in love with him was not on his plans for a happy enjoyable life.  Matt is an uptight rich boy with too many expectations.  He sees his regimented future through his father’s life – a life of stress, ulcers, heart attack and nasty wife.  Matt is taking a year off to think about what he wants to do after college and meets the fun loving yet exasperating Alex.

Ms. Moon does an excellent job of flipping between the past and present.  The reader knows upfront something terrible happened.  Yet the journey to this heartbreak is filled with touching moments of young love.  When the conflict hits, it is no surprise to anyone – the characters or the readers.  The interaction between the characters is really what makes this book so good.  Seeing their struggles from each one’s perspective helps gain insight.  It also helps the reader bond and root for the characters.

The dialog between the characters is also awesome.  Ms. Moon excels with witty retorts and insightful musings.  There is always an evil character in her books and it’s always a family member.  It’s sad in this manner.  For it seems it’s always the family which tears the lovers apart.  It would be nice to see an antagonist who is actually trying to do what is best for the lovers and not be fully evil.  This would shoot the book over the edge in conflicted feelings and heartbreak.  I love this type of angst filled book.  This latest book reminds me of Megan Hart books.  I love Megan Hart books because they make me feel so much and they always make me cry.  Ms. Moon does the same for me.  The difference is Ms. Moon still gives the reader a happily ever after while Ms. Hart leaves me gasping on the floor without any hope of resolution.  This m/m romance is highly recommended to readers who want to feel more than just a sweet romance.  It’s a book for readers who want a love conquers all theme.

Twisted Ropes by Bonnie Bliss

D.G. has landed herself in a twisted version of OZ. If you have not read the first book in the series, I highly recommend it. (Yes, I went back and bought it I was so intrigued with the series.) If you have seen The Wizard of Oz, then hold onto your ruby slippers, because you won’t be in Kansas anymore.

D.G. is off to find the Wizard. On her way down the yellow brick road, she finds herself parched and extremely horny.  Her new collar has a mind of its own and has crafted a dress fit for a naughty adventure.  That is just where it lands the inquisitive D.G. Two men come along dragging a slave and D.G. watches as they teach the sexy young woman how to properly be a submissive. Hot, bothered and ready to jump the nearest fence post, D.G. plays voyeur.

Further adventures ensue when D.G. encounters a scarecrow with stalking issues, two evil crows and we finally meet the Wizard, a Dom with an attitude, itching to claim D.G. for his own.

This book was hot. Reading the first page prompted me to go and buy the first book in the series and I am so glad I did. Lusty witches wearing dildo heeled slippers, raunchy little munchkins and some very smoking hot f/f sex paved the way down the yellow brick road.  This book was completely evocative, excessive in the  horn doggery department, and totally waved the kink flag as high as you can see it. I can’t wait to get to what happens with the Tin Man and The Lion. Oh my.

The oddest part of this book was the specialness that seems to seep from D.G. at every turn. And I do mean seep. Her violent and explosive orgasms produce magical cum that has healing properties. Now that is one talented lady. This part of the scenario had me laughing out loud, but somehow it all fits together for a read that will take you for a trip into Twisted Oz. You may never want to come back home again.

Lust Plague (Steamwork Chronicles) by Cari Silverwood

Story Rating: 4 out of 5 paddles

Sting Factor (kink): 3 out of 5

Lust Plague is more a book about prejudice than anything else.  Airship Captain Kaysana Onomi is nearly killed when zombies affected by the lust plague take over her ship.  She is rescued by Sten, a Frankenstruct-the last of his kind.  Although human, they were also created and came with a built in rage that resulted in uncontrollable killing sprees.  Sten has learned to keep his inner rage under control.  But most humans regard his kind with loathing, and Kaysana especially so because some of them killed her younger sister. Together they team up with Emily, a refuge from Kaysana’s airship, Sten’s wolf, and a canary and take on the Zombies in order to destroy the plague that causes them to become Zombies.  With the world being destroyed, can Kaysana and Sten find happiness?

Some of the problems I had with this book include the gruesome factor: Zombies dripping flesh is not appealing; and even more, the questions that are left unanswered.  We never find out how the Frankenstructs were created; how the lead Zombie managed to control some of them and why; and what made “raised men” faster, more powerful and deadlier than normal Zombies.

The sex was hot and included some definite aspects of BDSM (nipple and clit clamps, bondage, suspension, rough sex, anal sex, and more) but it was set in such a surreal setting that the normalcy of the sex jarred. Tough thing to say about BDSM, but very true here!

In spite of the flaws, the story line was fascinating; the heroine a terrific role model for strong women everywhere and Sten was a perfect lover-dominant, yet protective, tender and caring.

Rise of the Dom by Brenna Zinn

Story Rating: 4.5 out of 5 paddles

Sting Factor (kink): 3 out of 5

It’s 1998, and what a great year it’s been for independent yet sexually submissive Emma Sutherland. She’s secured a great job teaching at the local university, bought a dream house in the country with its very own dungeon in the basement and found a masterful Dom who fulfills her every desire. Who could ask for more?

Chet Crosby can. Having hot, kinky sex with Emma is no longer enough. He wants to take care of her outside the dungeon and have a real relationship, which she’s not ready for. But ready or not, the horrifying and unexplainable occurrences in Emma’s home have her scared, and Chet’s more determined than ever to protect the woman he loves—even if it means facing unimaginable terror.

The author did a magnificent job with this story and it’s hard to believe that its only 72 pages.  I could not put this book down and it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time I was reading.

Chet came across as a likeable guy.  He was dominating when it came to sex but outside the bedroom, he was a caring and protective guy.  I can see why Emma got involved with him.  Emma came across as a normal woman who wants to take things slow after she got out of a painful divorce.  From ghosts to Chet’s crazy ex this book has a lot packed in.

There were not a whole lot of sex scenes in the book however there were a lot of BDSM elements. The book was mainly focused on Emma’s house and what happed inside it prior to Emma moving in. Overall, this was a gripping story that sticks with you.
