Story Rating: 2 out of 5 paddles

Sting Factor (kink): 2 out of 5

A sorority girl gets more than she bargains for in a rush week from Hell.

Jessica hungers to be invited to join her mother’s sorority, Theta Theta Psi. When the letter comes, she is ecstatic, but as the intricacies of the initiation begin to unfold, she isn’t ready for the humiliation and degradation that is to follow. Presented with a paddle bearing her name, she is passed around and told to mind the bearer of the paddle, or else she will be punished.

If the story were to stay in this vein, I would have liked it. Spanking books are fun, especially if the girl is enjoying the pain. This book is a dub con and the more it continued, the more obvious it was. There are some non con and dub con that I like, depending on the flavor. This one kind of left me cold. The story of the sorority girl with the paddle and the spanking was great, but it digressed into an unfortunate no win scenario where Jessica was subjected to things that left my stomach turning. It was not designed to win over a woman’s POV. To the contrary-it was to debase the co-ed and objectify her.

The spanking initially was good, but as the story twisted into a road trip from Hell, and Jessica was humiliated at every turn-nudity, photos taken of her without her consent, strange men touching her, public exposure in an unsafe environment and more. The continuation of the series at the end left me nauseous and I can honestly say I will not read anything else in this series.  This was written in a male POV that had no regard for the well-being of the female in question.

I want to add a note about dub con and non con because with the continuation of this story, it will most likely head in that direction. There are some books that really make this type of story work. Those are the ones where the woman may be against what is happening to her, but her body is aroused and she does get something from it, thereby connecting the reader to the story.  This was not one of those.

Connor McDuff, a modern day pirate, is plundering on dry land these days. His mission? To take a wealthy man’s daughter for ransom. There is however a very tempting flame haired wrench thrown in his plans, the troubled daughter, Catie O’Halloran.

Catie challenges the very few morals Connor didn’t know he possessed. He’s never wanted anything more, and their sexual chemistry is undeniable. A man who is tortured by demons, as love grows he leaves, thinking she’s safer without him, but he couldn’t be more mistaken.

Fate keeps bringing them together only to cruelly rip them apart time and time again. There is danger, and a sinister presence hidden in a world of deception, where nothing is as it seems, and in the end, can Connor save Catie from imminent peril before she is out of time?

Erotic, dark and suspenseful, it will draw you in and shake you to the core.

The premise of BDSM, in real life or in fiction, is Safe, Sane and Consensual. In my opinion this book does not belong in the BDSM genre at all. This was not safe, sane or consensual. The ‘scenes’ in this book were abuse pure and simple. (That being said it would have been nice if there was a warning in the beginning of this book so if you are a victim of abuse you can choose to skip this book due to its subject content.) Being coerced into agreeing to ‘kinky’ sex and scenes to save a child is not consensual.

This book was confusing on many levels skipping around so you were never quite sure what was going on or where you were. The premise of the story is a pirate and his young ‘love’. However it was confusing because it sounded like they really were indeed on a pirate ship, yet this was based in present time, airplanes and cell phones. Yet there is an actual pirate ship with pirates.

Despite the above, the premise of this book was good. Catie, the wallflower, abused and mistreated by her parents, falls for the first guy who pays attention to her, Connor. The trials and tribulations that these two go through just to have a relationship! The story spans over several years, skips a few years and then puts you back in touch with the characters. You never really know what’s happened in between, just that time has passed.

Without the abuse and with more detail and explanation, this would make a good story.

Ryan Darwish will never forget the night his senior year of high school when he kissed a very drunk Emma Simonov and lost his heart to her forever. Six years later Ryan finds Emma again, but she’s a different woman than the bossy and joyful girl he used to know. Emma is now a pro-Domme and she makes her living by dominating a very select clientele of submissives at the Kiss of Blue dungeon.

When Emma graduated from college with her teaching degree three years ago she had no idea how hard it would be to find work as a teacher at a decent school. To make matters worse elderly parents both lost their jobs and their pensions in one fell swoop. Out of options, Emma had no choice but to turn her passion into her profession and go pro-Domme. She loves her work, enjoys her clients, but cannot allow herself to fall in love. Monogamous by, nature she knows that if her heart belongs to a man she’ll no longer be able to pro-Domme and without a good paying job her parents will soon be homeless. When Ryan appears in her life she finds herself tempted by the one thing she cannot have- the man of her dreams.

Ryan will do anything to make Emma see that he is the man for her including being everything that she ever wanted in a submissive, but when he begins their relationship with a lie he may never win another night with his reluctant Dominatrix.

Wow..simply wow! Have not been much of a fan of Domme books, but this one was awesome. The struggle that Emma is going through. You can tell that she really wants to be with Ryan, but she’s so scared. She’s a strong independent woman both in her professional and personal life but you can tell that there is more to her than that.

Ryan, the big strong Alpha man, he so wants to be with Emma and please her, completely! He’s got a fight on his hands though. She’s not going to crack as easily as he thought she would. He’s a strong man in his personal and professional life as well. But he’s loved Emma forever and now he wants to show her, to give her what he thinks she needs.

The scenes between the two of them, sizzling! Honestly, in reading this, readers best be prepared to get all hot and bothered themselves! And then the story ends, love cliff-hangers! Simply put, Emma’s Arabian Nights #2 should prove to be a fantastic read as well.

Brayden Clare never wanted to return to small town life. Blond, athletic, and struggling with his sexual identity, a casual relationship on the beach in Florida suits him much better. When a family emergency calls him home, he is forced to trade his personal freedom for a job as a bartender in a town where everybody thinks they know who he is, and nobody has a clue—including Brayden. Jenner Parrish is the owner and operator of Parrish Pub, the social hub of Robertsville, Pennsylvania. Jenner is charming, dominant, and popular since they were both in high school together. Brayden finds his new boss intimidating, and is daunted to find that turns him on. Jenner finds his new recruit intriguing but mustn’t dare to ask an employee to submit to him. The two men find what they’re seeking at a masked BDSM ball in the next town over, and are startled to discover their desires rest much, much closer to home.

Sitting down to write this review, I am left with the problem of where to start. This book was so engrossing I struggled to keep notes as I read. It completely sucked me in. The author of this book created captivating characters that weren’t just telling the reader a story. They were bringing you into their world and allowing you to witness a journey with them. Brayden is damaged and lovable, complex and so heart wrenching. Jenner is strong and sweet; his own past creating demons he fights to rid himself of. Together they are what every reader of M/M lit dream of reading. The author takes the time to delve so deeply into the character development of not just Brayden and Jenner, but the supporting characters as well, that by the end of the book, you feel you know these characters just as much as you would reading a multi-story series. And the author pulls it off without the story lagging.

Brayden and Jenner’s mutual attraction have them both tip toeing around each other during the first quarter of the book. With them both keeping their sexual preferences to themselves, as well as the fact that Brayden ends up Jenner’s employee; they keep their desires to themselves. When they both attend the same BDSM ball, Jenner is shocked to find the man he has been lusting over in attendance with him. The scene they share in a private room at the ball is smoking hot, but the underlying emotional pull Jenner experiences is what makes the scene so special.

When Brayden discovers who exactly he ended up playing with at the ball, his reactions are more realistic than many other books with similar situations. in fact, most of the human interactions in this book are more realistic than most books I have read. The author has an amazing grip on human nature and honest reactions than are normally depicted in fictional stories. For that, I applaud her.

The kink aspects of this story are intense and highly entertaining. Unlike many books I have read in this genre, Brayden and Jenner do not enter into a more D/s targeted relationship. Instead, they begin a more stringent Master/slave relationship that is fascinating. The author is amazingly descriptive as Jenner trains Brayden to be his slave. The care Jenner shows for his slave and the time he takes to communicate his desires as well as his responsibilities makes this an amazing fictional story for people to read that are interested in Master/slave relationships. By the end of the book, I found a few of my questions I had about M/s lifestyles answered, as well as a better understanding of why the dynamic is so appealing to some. Jenner takes his time making sure that Brayden has a full understanding of what he is submitting to, and his rules are well communicated and enforced. He makes sure that Brayden is not pushed past his limits and is not forced into anything he does not want/ want to try.

I loved how forthright the issues were in this book. The struggles that Brayden and Jenner went through when people that cared about them found out about the lifestyle they were choosing to live felt natural. The fear they both felt at the world finding out they were gay made my heart go out to both of them. And when they both discovered that what they felt for each other meant more than what the rest of the world would think about them, I wanted to cheer. It was wonderful though to read a story with such an incredibly supporting secondary character line up. Too often you read stories where coming out to loved ones end up costing them the people in their lives. With full understanding that that is a harsh reality people live with everyday, it was wonderful to read a story where the people that Brayden and Jenner care about stand by them.

The main issue I had with the entire book came with the scene containing Jenner’s special feather. As a member of the Kink community, it has always been ingrained in me that you do NOT leave a bound submissive alone. Not ever. To me, that was a major disappointment, regardless of how long the submissive is left.

This is a very strongly written and researched book. The scenes are well described and vivid. The editing is solid and I found no major mistakes. If anything, this story was a bit too engrossing. I had to read it 3 times in order to get out of the story enough to remember I was reading this to write a review and not just entertainment. This is a book I would readily recommend to anyone who enjoys not only kinky books, but the m/m genre as well.

Story Rating: 4 out of 5 paddles

Sting Factor (kink): 4.5 out of 5

This story, at its heart, is a love story. Derek is so in love with his current girlfriend, Elise, he is willing to set aside his previous life as a Dom/Master for her. However, he has never actually told her about this part of his life. Does he miss it? Apparently as he never cancelled his membership at Velvet Ice, a local upscale dungeon, but he has not been back there since meeting her.

The book starts off with Elise finding an invite from Velvet Ice to Master Derek for their Valentine’s Bacchanal. As she has no idea about this part of her boyfriend’s life, it naturally confuses her. When she confronts Derek about it, he tries to explain about his past, but Elise is more upset by the fact that Derek did not trust her enough to share everything about him and storms out.

After walking out on Derek, Elise takes it upon herself to research this aspect of Derek’s past as she has no actual knowledge of this particular lifestyle. After doing internet research, Elise goes to Velvet Ice and sets up a plan for the Valentine’s Bacchanal. This leads to the main part of the story, and where all the heat this book contains comes from. And this book definitely delivers when it comes to kink and sexual tension.

It is obvious Elise is very much in love with Derek because she decides to try and step in to Derek’s former life before her. The results are, to say the least, very successful and wonderfully kinky erotic. With the help of the Velvet Ice’s staff, she tricks Derek in to coming to the club to “rescue” her from herself. Little does Derek know it is all a ruse to get him to the club where an eager, albeit nervous, Elise awaits him in a private room, already tied up and on display for Derek.

This is where the book gets really hot. The story contains a little of everything; bondage, nipple clamps, rope work, orgasm control, sub/slave sharing, public play, etc. What is very well done is the buildup of the eroticism. The scenes start slow as Derek is hesitant as he feels Elise does not know what she is asking, and while there is truth in that, Elise proves fairly early on she is willing to learn. Elise gets introduced to the whole idea of surrendering herself to her boyfriend, but new Master and learns that she craves the feelings of helplessness, but also the power the slave actually has in a Master/slave relationship.

The scenes at the Velvet Ice continue as one would expect. The scenes are wonderfully written and completely hot. The resolution at Derek’s place the next day wraps up a plot line hinted at from the beginning of the book, and the resolution scene is quick, but a satisfactory ending. While the BDSM/sex scenes are wonderfully erotic and fever inducing, the underlying theme is one that is very important to any true power exchange relationship. Trust.
