Review:

The upper echelons of professional tennis generally are occupied by extremely determined and forceful personalities. It is hardly a stretch to imagine some of those individuals gravitating to the dominant side of BDSM. Such is the underlying premise of the recent collaboration of authors Lily Harlem and Lucy Felthouse, Grand Slam.

Despite it delving beneath the surface of D/s play dynamics, at its core this is a romantic tale chronicling the love affair between a sports psychologist and a top tennis player.  Marie has been hired to help Travis regain his focus while he recuperates from a fairly serious automobile accident. Their mutual attraction complicates the purpose of their professional alliance, as does Travis’ determination to awaken Marie’s latent sexual submissiveness.

The entirety of the book is written from a first person point of view, although the person telling the story alternates between Travis and Marie with each chapter. Whether or not this helps or hinders the narrative will depend upon the reader’s sensibilities and preferences. I was not particularly enamored of this convention, but I didn’t hate it either.

Realistically, I am not the target consumer for this book. Romantic stories don’t really appeal to me all that much, nor do I enjoy sharing characters’ inner angst while they wrestle with their hopes and fears as the mating dance unfolds. Looking at these features objectively though, I would say that they are well done, just not to my personal tastes.

For readers interested in this book for its erotic content, that too is a subjective matter. There are ample sex scenes throughout with varying levels of intensity; however, the BDSM elements are not hard core in the least, but definitely sensual and erotic. That aspect of Grand Slam would more likely resonate with outsiders and newbies than those in the lifestyle.

Review:

This book is a three story anthology. While I didn’t feel that they had any particularly overwhelming BDSM elements, they were still an interesting read. The three stories are very different from one another when it comes to setting , subject matter, and character.

Winter is the first story in the anthology. It deals with an ancient tribe’s method of appeasing the gods and insuring an end to the winter season. If you are thinking a virgin is sacrificed, you would be completely wrong. In fact, the Master of the tribe selected the young woman because of the sexual acts he witnessed her participating in while in the middle of the woods. The Master’s desire for her continued to grow, so he chose her in order to end her temptation. His plans are foiled when she summons a prince who rescues her. You’ll need to read the rest to find out if the Master is able to catch the sacrifice, or if the prince becomes the next man to be tempted by her seductive ways.

In the Ark Hotel, we are introduced to Angie & Noah. When we first meet Angie, she’s staying in a dive hotel & has just recovered from the injuries that he abusive ex-boyfriend has given her. She leaves him after he beats her until she signs a consent form to spin a wheel at The Ark Hotel, which assigns the couple a sexual act to perform. You’ll want to read this book to find out how Angie reacts when she learns who the hotel’s owners are, what happens when her ex tries to force his way back into her life, and when she discovers she has romantic feelings for Noah.

Demon Protection Plan, is the final story in this anthology. In this story we meet Kassidy & Decland. Kassidy leaves a tattoo parlor feeling excited about her most recent tattoo, when she is accosted by a man who tries to steal her purse. Kassidy is easily able to take down her would be robber, the fact that she is half demon works in her favor. Unfortunately, she ends up in the middle of a police sting to catch the would be robber. She is then forced into protective custody. She & Decland, the officer assigned to protecting her, discover that there’s an unmistakable attraction between the two of them.

For Mike and Will, “No Flag” meant “come home alive”, but will their love survive what happens next?

Captain Mike Kelley does not ignore his intuition, so when sexy bartender Will Hayes captures his heart, Mike embarks on a mission to win him over to a Domestic Discipline relationship. Will accepts with one caveat: Mike must promise not to renew his Army contract. Mike agrees, and they spend a year building a life together, getting married, and starting a business.

Only days before their café’s grand opening, Mike receives news that threatens everything he and Will have built. The Army invokes the Stop Loss military policy to involuntarily extend his commission and send him back overseas. Will, left alone to cope with the café, must rely on the support of old friends who may no longer be trustworthy. Through emails and Skype calls, Mike and Will keep their love and structure alive…until the day a horrific terrorist attack occurs on Mike’s outpost.

Mike awakens in a hospital with a devastating injury and no memory of the attack. As the only survivor, Mike’s memory may be the key to national security. Mike struggles to cope with his injury and Will struggles to support the man who always held him up. Both fear they have lost their previous relationship. Will has Mike back rather than a folded flag, but in the aftermath of war, can they rebuild the life they had before? Especially when those closest to them may not have their best interests at heart?

Review:

“No Flag” successfully weaves a multi-threaded story into a highly satisfying whole. The book not only tackles the somewhat unusual form of a Domestic Discipline (DD) relationship with compassion and understanding, but also manages to squeeze in some great points about being an army husband in the immediate aftermath of the repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell (DADT), dealing with post-traumatic stress, and the challenges of maintaining friendships when you’re in a relationship.

At the center of all these threads are the two well-drawn main characters, Will and Mike. Army captain Mike has a serious case of OCD, which might explain his desire for extreme order in his house, and that translates for a tall order for Will. Fortunately for the younger man, he enjoys the occasional swat. Of course, actual discipline from Mike is no light paddling. The book rather nicely describes the structure of a DD relationship without going into boring data dumps. It also manages to touch on the misconceptions about such relationships that those outside it may have, including the suspicion of abuse.

Mike and Will’s relationship is strictly (if you’ll pardon the expression) DD, so the kink consists almost exclusively of scenes when Will requires punishment, describing both the paddling and the tender aftercare that Mike administers. It’s a structure that works very well for the two men, which makes it all the more heartbreaking when they are separated, and then have to work out how to rebuild their relationship after Mike’s injury.

The story is not without its flaws, minor though they may be. While the main characters are well drawn, some of the secondary ones are little more than standardized cardboard cutouts. The general who sends Mike off to Afghanistan and then interrogates him on his return is a rather typical buffoon. You have to wonder if our military really is dominated by generals who don’t have any brains, given how often they appear in fiction. However, the biggest cliché is Will’s gal pal – the only significant female character – who turns out to be a bit of a psychopath. You know, the kind that knows Will is gay, but somehow thinks she can ‘convert’ him. However, it must be said that while this character is a rather tired old cliché in M/M fiction, the author does pull it off quite well.

“No Flag” is probably an excellent read for those interested in Domestic Discipline relationships. However, the explanations of DD are introduced to the story so naturally that even people familiar with the topic won’t be bored. With the added dimension of looking at such a relationship under extreme stress, this is a book that can appeal to readers on many levels.

Isabella has fantasized about her boss Catherine forever. Each morning they walk to work at Canary Wharf, a financial district near the City of London and each day, Isabella dreams of having her. Isabella is out of her reach, a cool and aloof suit in a realm far, far above her. Then an elevator malfunction changes everything. The balance of power shifts and Isabella finds herself mastering her boss in a game of Domination and submission f/f style. This delightful interlude in an elevator was sexy and very, very hot. Tessa Wanton does a good job of building up the sexual tension and showing just how exciting it can be for a subordinate to top her boss.

The f/f scenes were juicy and full of discipline. Isabella wastes no time getting Catherine on her knees, making her beg for fulfillment. This is a short snack that is perfect for anyone who may have had a secret craving to teach their boss a thing or two.  Naughty or nice, you decide. I for one will be reading more Tessa Wanton, especially if she has more f/f pieces like this one.

Review:

If you love The W.I.L.D. Boys of Special Forces series by this author than this book is a must read.

This book brings you back into the lives of the men and women of this series. The first three books give us another glimpse into each couples lives and the last story brings back Tait, Luna and Kellan.

In RAZE THE BARN Garrett must find a way to reach and help Sage. She has hit a downslide and Garrett must stop it before he loses Sage and the happiness he has gained.

In TIE THE KNOTS Zeke must find out what he truly wants. As much as it will hurt her Rayna is willing to let Zeke go. She has given herself fully to him and waits to see if he is willing to give as much of himself.

DIAMONDS IN THE RAIN brings us Ava and Archer. When a simple visit to Archer’s world turns into a painful experience for Ava things may be over before they have begun. Ava is ready to run away and archer must prove to her that their love is worth fighting for.

The last story MOONRISE gives us a painful look at Luna and Tait. This story is only the beginning and leads readers into the next book in this series. I don’t want to give any spoilers away so all I can say is have some tissues on hand.

This is not a stand-alone book. If you have not read the previous books you will not understand the feelings and the intensity of the characters. All of these stories are great reads and the last one will really pull on your heartstrings. I enjoyed revisiting with all of the characters and getting to see what has been going on in each of their lives. The love that they have shines through in everything that they do. Once again these men prove that their women have chosen correctly when they gave them their trust and love.

Review:

‘Heart-Break-Proof’ uses an on an interesting premise, and it works. While there is actual interaction between the two main characters, Andrew and Marie, the majority of the book takes place during email role playing. It makes for an interesting mix. While they are assuming roles when conversing online, you do get very good glimpses in to who they truly are down deep. Plus, the sex that occurs during their online trysts can get pretty hot.

The kink factor comes in completely during the online scenes. We get somewhat public sex (in a college lecture hall), some voyeurism (in a closed gym involving a webcam), and some female Domme action. The last definitely giving us a good dose of kink, including an inserted, condom covered, high heel. Also, the “characters” used for the email story make a second appearance in another email story, with the male character trying, unsuccessfully, to turn the tables and take back control.

The fact the book never actually delves in to the kinkier aspects of human sexuality keeps the rating where it is. However, what is represented is written very well and will sweep a reader along with the action. Plus, for many a reader, the idea of playing with another via email (or text, or chat room, etc.) would actually be considered kinky, or at least a kink.

‘Heart-Break-Proof’ is set up with the chapters going back and forth in point of view, the first chapter from Andrew, and the second from Marie, etc. This reflects how the two do their online play, first one making a post, then the other. At times, with the online scenes, it seems obvious that one or the other is trying to throw a loop in to see how the other responds. This makes for fun reading, waiting to see who will blink first, literary-wise. In only one story does this backfire, and Andrew blows up, blows up the scene, and almost blows up the budding real life relationship between them.

There is a plot involved in ‘Heart-Break-Proof’; it is not just a vehicle for showing us online play. Andrew and Marie are very different, with different outlooks on how to live one’s life, but they still come together and begin to fall in love. However, by the end of the book, the cliffhanger ending that sets up the sequel involves the real life aspect of trying to fit a round peg in to a square hole (pun intended). Also, that using some parts of one’s real life when online role playing may come back to bite you.

The book ends with the words, “END OF BOOK I”. Considering how the story ends, this is a good thing to read. The ending is unsatisfying. Not because it is badly written, or anything of that ilk. It just is not how the reader is going to want the story of Andrew and Marie to end. By the end of ‘Heart-Break-Proof’ you become emotionally invested in both characters.

Once you buy this book and finish it, you will be looking for the sequel to see what happens next. Enjoy the read.

Taking what you want may come at a terrifying price. Chris calls his darkest, nastiest fantasy into the light of day when he has to kidnap Kat to save a friend. For years, he’s wanted to bring her to her knees. But claiming her draws attention. Andreas wants to save Kat, until he sees her response to raw male dominance. More dangerous are the human traffickers, who regard the acquisition and selling of women as a very high stakes business. And they’re watching. Everything. Death. The perversion of love. The loss of freedom. Sometimes there is no choice.

Review:

Finally, Chris and Kat and the conclusion of their love/hate relationship! Kat has a reason for the way she is and why she does the things that she does, it just took until this book for the readers to finally get that insight. Poor Kat, so misunderstood. Absolutely love how she fights Chris tooth and nail. You can tell that at times she really does want to submit but something is holding her back.

Chris, he’s the Dom, he’s right…..right? Love the transformation that he goes through in this book. When he realizes exactly what he’s doing. And to drag his best friend Andreas along for the ride? Okay, Andreas jumped in the car, but we all understand why!

Hot scenes, lots of misunderstandings, and then finally, a revelation made by all of them! However, there are questions at the end of this book. Surely there must be another one? Once again Cari Silverwood left us hanging in suspense. The last section of the book Jasmine mentions ‘she was still alive. So there was hope.’ Somehow don’t think Jasmine is talking about Jasmine!

Another winner and well deserved for Cari Silverwood! Can’t wait for the next installment!
