Review:

This novella had a bit of a standard plot with a little bit of an unusual twist.

Remy Alexander and Seamus “Shay” O’Connell have a very happy marriage, but it’s threatened when Shay gets a little too chummy with his daughter’s dance teacher, Nicole. The problem is that Shay is also attracted to Nicole, but isn’t at all sure she can be as submissive as he needs.  There is also the problem of Nicole’s family-her father is homophobic and bigoted and when she finally admits she is having an affair with the two men, her father disowns her.

Can this unlikely trio actually find a way to make this relationship work?

While this was a well written book with few errors and I liked the fact that it explored the question of how parents react to their children’s choices, there were some glaring questions left unanswered. Obviously, Nicole’s father isn’t the only bigot, so how will other people react to their arrangement? Will they continue to send their children to Nicole’s dance studio?

Expect mild BDSM, m/m action, and menage a trois.

rain1Anatomy of a Sex Scene….by Rain Carrington

Starting a sex scene. Preparation! Coffee is key, a cigarette at the ready (yes I smoke), working lighter, and something in the background to focus me. I prefer music or The Waltons. Yes, the old 70’s TV show. I’ve found that particular show gives me the best background for my writing, especially the sex scenes, don’t ask me why!

Sitting in front of the blank white screen is never so intimidating as when a sex scene is coming up in the story. For sure there is excitement! There is nothing like a good sex scene. However, there are also nerves. I’ve written quite a few sex scenes. In the same book there may be over a dozen so to come up with something new is like climbing a the same mountain over and over trying to see a different view each time.

As I climb I see the kissing. What is hot sex without some hot kissing to start? The kissing has to be extra passionate. Their eyes must meet. I think of the bodies of both of the men, whether there is chest hair to run fingers through or is it a smooth chest? Is one of the men long and lean, burly and brute or small and delicate? Pitting two different body types in the same scene presents its own challenges but that also makes it much more fun. Pictures help. I make full albums of my men, angles and expressions to fit most of the scenes but nothing is better than the angles they achieve in my mind.

With the pictures up on my screen and the intentions in my head I begin. If this is a first scene for the men involved I like them to be face to face. If it’s not their first encounter there are many positions to put them in and I think about them all. The written dynamic of the couple leads me a lot of the time to what positions are called for, as well as the story line. If there is angst, for example, like fighting then sometimes the best way to have them take out their aggressions is to have them up against the wall or rolling in the dirt, half fighting, half making steamy angry sex. I think that may be why my characters have the angst they do…hmm.

If there is no anger, it can be every bit as passionate. Sometimes it is the first time for one or both of my men. Then I have to consider the pain, the nerves and the fear. Maybe they are starting their exploration of BDSM. That is where hundreds of intriguing positions and equipment come in and that is where my excitement grows. I think of spanking benches and how they can be used, wooden crosses, chains, spreader bars, or maybe just simple silk scarves and how exactly my characters can use these things.

Sometimes I hit snags or blank spots so researching for this is imperative. I think any of the authors can tell you that research is not only important but one of our favorite parts. We women authors have, of course, never had a man on man sexual experience so visual aids are important. I am not above admitting that I watch porn or look for still pictures to get angle right. It’s sometimes hard to imagine what a man can do with his body unless I see it happening.

I am lucky to have a lot of gay friends as well to let me bounce ideas off of. They are always willing to give me feedback on an idea I have. One sends me dozens of pictures to help. I hate to put him to work like that but he, so generously, never complains.

Once all of these things are considered and the two (or more) men are clearly set in my mind, the location, the equipment if any and keeping with the story line, then the scene unfolds. From the first kiss to the last scream of climax I see it and my fingers try to keep up as I type it out onto the glowing white screen. It feels a bit like an orgy for me sometimes because it’s not just the men, but I’m there and so are my readers. Hundreds of people are watching and breathing heavily with these men and for it to be more than pictures on a screen I need to make sure that the smells, sounds and emotions can be felt by all of the onlookers. As I direct them in their lovemaking, I must assure that the crowd around us experiences everything my boys are experiencing. rain2

Each of the characters need to have their own voice in it. Their own growls, grunts, screams as well as their own facial expressions and body movements. All of my characters are so real to me that this comes through almost on its own. Some have scratched the other’s back. There may be one who begs for more while others beg for it to end, the intensity too much. Breathing is so loud it drowns out the whimpers and screams at the finale are lung draining.

My thoughts run faster than my hands most of the time so that when I’m finished with the scene my page is as messy as the men are. I’m spent and my cigarette is puffed down to the filter. There are times I have to wait for my toes to uncurl. It is rare that I’m not smiling a goofy grin and there is never a time that I can’t wait to get the reactions of my readers. There is a lot of self-satisfaction after writing a good sex scene but when my readers tell me that they enjoyed them as well, my climax is complete.

The clean-up comes, then the reread. I laugh at the typos and mistakes that I made during the writing.  I put in tweak here and there, then more. Like with a real BDSM scene this is the aftercare. Taking care of my lovers and making sure everyone is not only satisfied sexually but any bruised and messy bits are cleaned and cared for. Then when everything is sponged off and ointment applied it’s time for a glass of wine and a nap…

Blurb:

She still craved him… The sight of a collar in her boyfriend’s drawer had stunned Sarah. Panicking, she had fled. But no other man has ever been his equal.

Two years ago, the woman he’d hoped to collar and marry disappeared. So Reece McRae is stunned to find his former girlfriend on her knees, behaving as the submissive he’d always wanted.

Is it too late? He should refuse her, but an undeniable sexual attraction consumes him.

Sarah had been under Reece’s spell from the moment she met him. When she found a steel collar in his drawer, she panicked. The idea of a lifetime of his relentless demands, sensual and otherwise, suffocated her.

In the years they’ve been apart, she hasn’t met his equal. Now, convinced one last night will vanquish his memory, she sets out to seduce him.

The Reece she returns to is even more determined to have his way. Is she now strong enough, brave enough, to surrender to his love?

Excerpt

“You can have what you want. But there will be rules around it. No promises, no expectations. We’ll both call it what it is, exorcising the demon of the past. After the weekend, you go home, we never see each other again.”

With boldness that surprised her, scared her, she asked, “And if that’s not enough?”

“Right now, that’s not an option. You’d have to earn my trust, show me you deserved it. If I scared you before, I would terrify you now. Before I’d consider anything with you, Sarah, I would test you in ways you couldn’t imagine.”

“Are you trying to scare me?”

“Is it working?”

“A little,” she admitted.

“Good. You should be frightened. The collar would only be the beginning of what I would demand from you. I wouldn’t be satisfied with anything less than your total honesty. I would want to own every one of your reactions. Even that wouldn’t be enough. I’d want to know your every thought, every fear, every inhibition. I’d want to hear every scream and savour every tear. And I’d demand you turn to me to wipe them. There would be no place for you to hide.”

The chill in his voice rippled through her.

“Well, what will it be, Sarah? Shall I just walk you back to your room after dinner?” He raised a brow. “How brave are you now?”

Review:

Those who love geeky professors, this is one for you. Jen Kessler is an artist doing her best to survive. Her family discounts her ability to make a living because she wastes it on artwork. Still, Jen doesn’t look for handouts or charity. She will make her way through her art pieces. She independent and doesn’t need anyone. That is, until she rents a room from Drake Matthews.

Drake is a guy who deals in straight forward logic. This follows with his math degree. Drake does have a kinky side which includes his need of control. He’s into TPE which rubs Jen’s fur the wrong way.

The BDSM in this story is erotic and so good. Ms. Roberts does entice the reader with bondage and spankings. The chemistry between Jen and Drake is molten hawt. The focus seems to be more on D/s than it is on BD. There is little SM. Unfortunately for Jen, she’s more interested in the BD while Drake is all about the D/s.

The conflict in this story is Jen and Drake trying to make the relationship work. Their interaction is believable as they struggle to understand how they can have a relationship together. The give and take between two people who have lived alone for so long is amusing at times. Ms. Roberts does a good job of showing how difficult it is to adjust a schedule for two instead of one. The compromise each has to make is what makes this story so good to read.

From a character building stand point, Ms. Robert excels. Jen and Drake are both believable and realistic characters. While Jen does follow some of the stereotypical traits of an artist, she’s still grounded enough for readers to admire. Drake could come across as the stuff professor yet his kinky interests make him attractive.

What really stood out about this story is how Ms. Roberts gives Jen a disability most people don’t know about. I remember reading it as a disorder in my psychology class. I’m not sure how much research Ms. Roberts put into the particular disability. I can say that from a layman’s view point, she did a fine job. How she incorporated it to Jen’s everyday life and her art is fabulous.  Within the first few mentions of how Jen sees people and how she interprets scents, it triggered the thought that Jen may have a special condition. For it to be validated and how Drake handle’s Jen’s unique view in life is heartwarming. Ms. Roberts really did a great job here and that’s why I gave her a four star for writing.

This erotic romance is recommended for readers who love geeky guys and artsy gals coming together.

Review:

Dandyland Diaries chronicles the journey of a newly divorced middle-aged woman as she relocates from the Midwest to Los Angeles and begins dabbling in the sort of BDSM that exists at the periphery of the leather community. Upon her arrival in southern California, an eagerness to get back in circulation prompts her to join a dating website. Before long this foray leads to her becoming an online dominatrix, despite not having any real life experience as such and having only a superficial idea of what being a mistress entails. As it happens, her lack of experience does not prove to be a hindrance since posturing and fantasy is the coin of the realm in the wannabe BDSM netherworld in which she finds herself.

Intentionally or not, this book portrays a comical adventure through the unsophisticated fantasy world of newbie subs and dominants trying to come to terms with their dark and sexual needs in the Information Age. The narrative is told in a manner that blends self-deprecation and snarkiness, which takes the edge off some of the pathetic and sordid scenarios depicted. Readers unfamiliar with BDSM could possibly mistake the glimpses of it here as how BDSM really is, when in fact they merely show a fragment of that subculture. Hopefully BDSM lifestylers won’t be put off by this well-written and amusing book that seeks only to entertain and not to judge.

edytaDo you use a pen name? If yes (or no), why?

Edyta Zaborowska is a pen name. The social acceptance of a way of life like mine is in my opinion not accepted enough to publish the books under my real name.

In my principal profession as a classical musician I often perform in front an audience. Considering that it is better when these two different worlds remain strictly separated.

Are you actively involved in BDSM? If so how do you identify yourself? Dom(me)/sub? Top/bottom? Switch?

I am 100% – and without compromises – Domme. I have developed in the past four years a set of tools of various instruments to enforce my goals and desires with my sexual environment. I make use of the following measures which I also often combine with each other:

 - dominant latex outfits of almost all kinds,

- masks and toys like mouth gags, strap-on, dildos,

- physical (and sometimes very painful) punishment with whip, ring crop, cat o´nine tails, switch and bamboo stick,

- verbal dominance,

- bondage with steel, ropes, chains, cuffs,

- deprivation of oxygen,

- mental punishments such rejections, exclusion or orgasm prohibition,

- little rewards like apply the attention.

At what point did you decide you wanted to write BDSM/kinky-themed erotica?

About four years ago I wanted to log on to a BDSM community here in Germany. For this I had to say a few words about me and my development for the profile. When writing the short profile text about me, I noticed that I had been through an exciting development from a rather nondescript office clerk to become finally a Dominatrix. So I wrote more: I wrote about my beginnings, the first experiments with the different varieties of BDSM, my first experience with fetish/latex lingerie.

I wrote more and more, and suddenly I realized that I had already written almost 100 pages. At this point I decided to use it for a novel. Then I added a few imaginary fictions (tension, mystery and crime) into my own autobiographical story. The idea for my first novel with autobiographical traits was born: “Fly with me, my Black Swan!”

Is there an area that is BDSM/kink-related that you haven’t written about yet that you’re interested in?

I am a dominant woman. Therefore I write my stories from my own dominant perspective. It could be a challenge to collaborate with male sub to write a “double story” with the same plot – one story from my perspective and one from the sub.

Do you do any “hands-on” research when you’re writing BDSM/kinky themed erotica?

Lots of the erotic passages I´ve written in my stories were done in real life. Meanwhile I possess a lot of experiences on which I can relate for writing the sex scenes in the stories. My inspiration is my real life. And I am open to new experiences I can use for my next books.

What is your favorite fetish? Why?

Soon after my encounter with BDSM in 2007, I understood the fascinating and provoking attraction of tight and shiny latex on the female form above all. Latex has the unique feature of accentuating and emphasizing my female figure in an eye-catching way like a second skin. Also there is that extraordinary arousing feeling caused by this material against my naked skin. So while I gain immense pleasure from dressing in latex, it also emphasizes my sexual image to my maid and my slave. Combined with high-heels, latex gives a very feminine appearance: legs appear longer, the butt is accentuated and the whole figure becomes more alluring to the eye.

Latex has become an indispensable part of my sex life to underline my dominance and aloofness. In addition, I have developed in the past four years a set of tools of various instruments to enforce my goals and desires with my sexual environment.

What might be something of interest to your fans that you don’t think they know about you?

I have a weakness for elegant and well-dressed men (like Don Draeper in “Mad Men” or Frank Underwood in “House of Cards”. And I am frightened of spiders and have a loathing of slugs!

At this point in your career, do you think you’ll write more BDSM/kinky erotica?

Here in Germany I´ve already published three BDSM-novels with Ewa and Hanna as main characters. Meanwhile the whole “Black Swan” theme has been developed to a kind of serial with each accomplished stories. In all books the reader will meet Hanna and Ewa and the Black Swan as an erotic-mystic being and symbol of the woman’s development to a kinky Femme Fatale.

At the moment I have written the manuscripts for two further kinky novels, one of them will be published in Germany in fall/winter 2014.

I hope that the sales of my first novel “Fly with me, my Black Swan!” will develop so well that I can come up with the money for the translation of my second German novel “Der Tanz des Schwarzen Schwans!” (The dance of the Black Swan) into the English language.

What’s the most surprising piece of feedback you’ve ever received from a fan of your writing?

It was not actually a feed-back. Two years ago I read a lonely hearts contact ad in the newspaper. In this ad a man wrote: “Who has read Edyta Zaborowskas novel – Fly with me, my Black Swan! – and wants to life out with me the life and development of Ewa and her lover in the book? Chiffree: xxx”

When you’re writing BDSM/kinky-related erotica, is there a particular movie or music that you might watch or listen to that helps you get in that frame of mind?

While writing a story or while living out my passions in a session I love to hear classical music. My favorite Artists are Johannes Brahms and Ludwig van Beethoven.

Website, links info:

Edyta Zaborowska was born in 1970 in a small village in south-eastern Poland. Her childhood, youth and education were marked by the decline of socialism and a continuing strict Catholic moral background. Following high school, she studied music and art in Wroclaw. At the age of twenty-two, she moved alone to Germany with no knowledge of the German language and against the wishes of her family. “Armed only with a backpack, a musical instrument and a few dollars I had to learn what it means to stand on one’s own feet!” This was followed by various positions in commercial management and musical engagements in Germany and overseas. “Fly with me, my Black Swan!” is her first novel.

Story Rating: 2.5 out of 5 paddles

Sting Factor (kink): 4.5 out of 5

Review:

‘Chaining Flame’ is a quirky little story that takes place on another planet with different species of humanoid beings. The three main characters are a unique gathering as well. There is as captured slave-to-be hermaphrodite named Ilamaych, a shape shifter (including from male to female, or female to male) named Ficus. Ficus is what’s known as a Flame, which is some form of high priest/priestess of the deity Pelin. Our final member of this group is Earen, a serf under the reign of Matron Gund.

Let’s start with the story itself. ‘Chaining Flame’ does not so much feel like a stand alone story so much as it does an excerpt from a much longer novel. There is obviously much that should be before the story begins with Ilamych in chains being led to be sold in to slavery. Then the ending is not so much an ending, but rather a resolution of one problem, leading to much more story involving our three heroes. It’s a good thing to leave a reader wanting more, but it’s not a good thing to leave a reader wanting A LOT more. James L. Wolf has a great start, or rather a great middle, of a wonderfully kinky science fiction/fantasy in ‘Chaining Flame’. One that has the potential to be eminently readable, but for the moment, as a novella it leaves the reader wanting for too much.

Now, as far as the kink factor…….Well, it’s hard to not be able to connect on a kink factor when you have a fully functioning hermaphrodite and a shape shifter that can control the size and shape of ANY body part, even the nasty bits. In this, James L. Wolf does not disappoint. Granted, he does not go in to a large amount of detail where the sex is concerned, but as the combinations he uses are decidedly unique, he cannot be faulted on missing out on a good kink story. As a bonus, we even get a bondage, whipping, branding, forced anal scene involving Earen. Then he tosses in a genital piercing scene involving Ficus and a ship’s captain. So yes, ‘Chaining Flame’ has kink in spades. Just wish there was more story. Still, worth a read, but here’s hoping James L. Wolf decides to turn a good novella into a great novel.

kaylaWhy I Submit – Kayla Lords

I am so excited to have the opportunity to visit BDSM Book Reviews today! I have agonized over this guest post for days now, weeks even. The opportunity to guest blog for a site dedicated to BDSM books – a site that caters to people who want to read BDSM erotica and more – was exciting and overwhelming. First, I wondered if I should promote my current book. Then I wondered if I should fall back on what I do on my website – write about sex. Both would be fun – for me to write and hopefully for you to read. But that didn’t feel right to me. So I figured I’d just be brutally honest and be myself.

Hi, I’m Kayla Lords. I’m a sexual submissive in the Dominance and submission (D/s) lifestyle who identifies as a masochistic babygirl in the Daddy Dom/little girl world of D/s.  I happen to run a sex blog and write erotica. To say that my thoughts center around sex, BDSM, and specifically D/s is an understatement.

Not everyone who writes about BDSM lives the lifestyle, although some of us do. The thing I find myself wanting to explain to people is why I submit, why I live this lifestyle, and why I write about it exclusively. I attempt to explain in my stories and on my blog. The desire to be understood is strong especially since the thing that makes me feel complete (submission) is often vilified by those on the outside looking in.

So why do I submit?

The easy answer is that it’s sexually gratifying to engage in kinky sex where I submit and he dominates. I enjoy the power play and the apparent lack of control. I say apparent because I firmly believe in having a safe word – with one word, all sex and play stop. The safe word is often the reason people say that a submissive actually has all the power in a relationship. We can stop everything with one word and a good Dominant complies immediately.

For some people, the kinky sex is all they need out of the D/s lifestyle. For me, I need and want more – much more. I want to live by rules. I want to follow protocol. I want to trust someone that I believe is stronger than I am. I want to be under the care of someone who wants me to succeed in all that I do.

From the outside looking in, it may appear that I don’t want to accept responsibility for my own life. That’s wrong on every level. I am capable of taking care of myself. Have you ever had a moment where you realized (after the fact) that you should have done something – eat that extra piece of cake, buy those shoes you couldn’t afford, whatever? The moment you did it, you knew it was the wrong thing to do.

A Dominant’s job is to make sure that feeling of having done the exact wrong thing doesn’t occur. Depending on the relationship, a submissive can give over a little or a lot of control. Every relationship is different. For me, I’m comfortable giving over control of several everyday life decisions to my Dominant, but there are plenty I still make for myself. In other relationships, all decisions are made by the Dominant. It’s different for everyone.

The big question most people have is how. How can I let someone else control my life?  How can I forget about equal rights, equal treatment, feminism, and bra burning. Isn’t submission degrading?

The answers aren’t always easy to understand. But I’ll try.

I allow him to control parts of my life because I trust him to take care of me. We have constant and open communication. If I don’t like a decision that’s been made or the direction something is headed, I have the right to speak out – politely, respectfully, and at the right time. Every time we add a new element to our relationship, we discuss it in great detail first to set the expectations and then we discuss it after the first time to determine how we both felt about it. Depending on how we feel, we adjust what we’re doing.

I place myself in his care because he took the time to prove to me that he had my best interests at heart. I know what I need to do, but oftentimes, what I want to do wins out. By giving him control over parts of my life, I always do what I need to do, and my wants become treats that give me great joy.

I haven’t forgotten equal rights – and I absolutely consider myself a feminist. What many people don’t realize is that a Dominant doesn’t exist without a submissive, and vice versa. Without someone submitting, there’s no way to be a Dominant. When those of us who are submissives and Dominants are single, we tend to feel like something is missing, a piece of ourselves. I believe it’s because we aren’t doing what we’re meant to do – completing a circle with our other half.

And the reason I call myself is a feminist is because feminism isn’t about complying with what the majority of people think women should do. It’s about choosing for ourselves what we should do with our lives. At home and in my relationship, I submit and hand over a certain amount of control. In my professional life, I’m a take-charge, type A personality who wants to control every detail. Both sides of my life are my choice.

Submission isn’t degrading. Abuse is degrading. Someone being beaten or forced to act in a certain way when they don’t want to – that’s degrading. Choosing to submit, choosing to embark in kinky sex and experimentation, choosing to push the limits and bounds of what others consider normal – well, that’s anything but degrading. The difference between submission and abuse is about consent and choice.

As a submissive, I choose to submit. The moment I withdraw my consent, it’s over. If a Dominant doesn’t respect the lack of consent, that’s abuse.

Under the care of my Dominant, I feel treasured and special. I am one of the most important people in the world to him. All that he does within the confines of our relationship is for me – to help me achieve goals, to help me be a better woman, to show his love for me. I am held securely in his grasp, knowing that he’d never truly hurt me. In return, I hand over control. I submit to him, and allow him to lead wherever we shall go – whether that’s in life or in kinky sex.

D/s doesn’t exist in a bubble. There must be a strong relationship between two people who are willing to communicate with one another. Trust must be earned – from both sides. Fears, insecurities, and past issues must be dealt with – for both parties. Good relationships, whether D/s or vanilla, require work and commitment.

And for the record, I use the male Dominant and female submissive perspective because that’s what I know. All gender pronouns are transferrable. Dommes and male submissives, Dommes and female submissives, Dominants and male submissives, switches, and every type of sexuality under the sun can experience D/s in their own way, at their own comfort level. And as long as everyone is safe, sane, and consensual, I say have a good fucking time!
