TheAppeal-200x300The Appeal by Christina Thacher

Barnes and Noble:

Mackenzie Lyon has a ferocious reputation in the courtroom and a fearsome reputation as a Dom in The Club, Washington, D.C.’s exclusive BDSM establishment. No one knows who broke his heart. All they know is that she’s dead…  Diana Truscott feels certain that walking into a dangerous situation will get her killed. Instead, she gets introduced to Mac Lyon, a Dom to heat her body and melt her heart. When she has to leave him, she leaves her soul behind.  What would happen if the woman Mac can’t forget were to return?

“May I serve you, please, Master?”

The sub at Mac’s feet was lovely, with hair the color of polished oak and a mouth made for sex. The light in her eyes suggested a desire that pulled at Mac.

He’d seen this sub before and she’d always grabbed his attention. That was the thing about The Club. Everything and everyone was out in the open. Fitting for Washington, D.C., where appearances counted more than substance. The Club catered specifically to BDSM, but no one was fooled. To really enjoy its membership, one had to be a voyeur, an exhibitionist or a little bit of both.

These days, Mac’s interest rose more from his judicious concern for The Club’s survival than from his own desires. That was his role at The Club—he made sure everything ran smoothly. The two—his own sexual desire and his professional oversight—used to work in tandem. Recently, though, he’d been less interested in quick scenes just to get his rocks off. Looking at this woman on her knees, though, he felt again the way he had those first few months—like a kid in a candy shop.

He’d watched her before. She was graceful in a way that suggested she thought about every move and gesture she made. She wasn’t robotic, like some of the subs. At the same time, she clearly wasn’t attracted to the men she played with.

And she’d noticed Mac before tonight. He’d caught her glancing at him. She was respectful, but interested. Again, he couldn’t quite say why her looks had heated his blood. They just had.

How long had it been since he’d felt this tug? The slight smile on those gorgeous lips kindled desire in Mac, a hot rush he’d experienced like seeing a long-lost friend. He fought the urge to say yes.

He looked over at Reginald Berch, the Dom wannabe who’d clearly instructed his sub to approach Mac. Berch nodded solemnly. Mac’s stomach clenched. Berch had barely been elected as a member of The Club, where politicians, legislative aides, lobbyists, and fat cats like Berch acted out their kinky scenes. Mac had opposed Berch’s membership—too many rumors about his not caring about minimum age limits and pesky issues like full consent. A couple of congressmen and a senator had insisted, though. Still, The Club would seem to be tame by Berch’s questionable standards.

Now Mac began to see why Berch had bothered. He wanted something from Mac, and this lovely sub was the bait.

“What’s your name?” Mac’s hand moved to caress her chin. He stopped short, though. From Berch’s angle, it would look like Mac was touching her.

“Diana, Master.”

“I’m not your master, Diana. I thought Mr. Berch was.”

Her eyes fell. He felt the loss of their glow, as though a candle illuminating a glass of pale sherry had been blown out.

“He is,” she whispered.

“Did he order you to serve me?” When she hesitated, he hardened his voice. “Don’t lie, Diana.”

“He did. But I need to speak to you.” Her eyes opened wide, fixed on him. “He wants you to take a campaign finance case of his to the Supreme Court. He thinks sharing his—well, me—he thinks that sharing me will soften you up.”

“Why are you telling me this?” Mac struggled not to grab her and pull her away from Berch. She seemed too clean, too good for him. The man was a slug. A very wealthy, very powerful slug.

Her gaze dropped again. “I want something from you as well.”

“He’s watching us. We can continue talking, but we’d better start doing something or he’ll wonder what sort of negotiation about safe words and hard limits can take this long.” Mac rose, holding out a hand to help Diana to her feet. He nodded at Berch without quite making eye contact.

They turned away from Berch and went to one of the other rooms. There were no private playrooms at The Club and Berch would surely want to watch. What could they do together that would allow her to speak to him without Berch noticing?

They’d gotten to the third room when Mac spotted the swing. He nudged Diana’s hip. “Would you be willing to use the swing? I can put on a show that should satisfy Berch, then if you’ll permit me to fuck you, we can talk. Okay?”

She ducked her head so her molten-honey hair fell forward. “That would be lovely, Sir.” He could hear the smile in her voice. And the relief.

Mac didn’t allow himself to smile, but he was more aroused than he’d been in years. This woman was a puzzle, an enigma. He sensed she really did need him. And not strictly as a Dom. He wasn’t too proud to admit it—someone needing his help was like catnip to him.

Sting Factor (kink): 4 out of 5

This book had interesting characters, an intriguing plot, and end in a cliffhanger.

Kiera is a student at a University in England, studying art. When she comes to the attention of her art tutor, Taylor Halloway, they begin an affair that appeals to their kinky side, in spite of the fact it threatens both their futures. But their affair is fraught with pitfalls-they both have secrets that threaten their relationship and Taylor pulls back time and again, but returns each time, unable to resist her.

I liked Kiera and her willingness to pursue her desires in spite of her past. While she was submissive, she wasn’t a doormat and when Taylor pissed her off, she took action. I wasn’t crazy about Taylor. I hated the way he pulled away from her, and was disenchanted with his secrecy and how hard he pushed her limits in their BDSM encounters.

Expect bondage, spanking, caning, flogging, and mention of breath play and abuse disguised as BDSM.

The story kept me captivated and I was looking forward to the ending, when wham, I was hit with a non-ending. I really don’t feel I can fairly review any serial book, because they don’t have an ending. If it weren’t for that, I would have given this four paddles for story. As it is, I can at best give it two paddles for the story, and four stings for kink.

In a foolish act of defiance, Avery Beauchamp finds herself on the wrong end of the law. As the daughter of a prominent judge, she knows her daddy will come to the rescue. What she doesn’t expect is the solution that the local judge suggests. Clean house for lawyer Preston Harrison.  Rather than take punishment for her actions in the conventional sense, Avery agrees to clean house for the cute Preston Harrison, convinced she can wrap him around her little finger once she gets him alone.

She couldn’t have been more wrong.

This is an adorable story about a woman who has been spoiled her whole life, but deep down is a nice woman. Preston discipline’s Avery bringing out the sweet submissive nature he knew was beneath the surface. There isn’t a bunch of angsty conflict in this story and Avery is pretty damned accepting of Preston’s punishment. When I started the story, I wasn’t sure I was going to like it since spoiled little rich princesses are not characters I want to read. Thankfully, Avery had some depth which made the story better.

The kinky scenes were very good and fun to read. I found Avery’s trust in Preston a little unbelievable, but this is fiction not real life so I went along for the ride and had the fun the author intended.

All in all, this book was a fun read with none of the over-the-top conflict that could interfere with the basic story. I liked Preston and the way he handled Avery was sweet and satisfying.  Everyone gets their kinky happy ending and Avery and Preston seem well suited for each other.  I’d read another book by Megan Michaels.

The Brewer’s Wife by David Hallwood  thebrewers

Story Rating: 1 out of 5 paddles

Sting Factor (kink): 1 out of 5

This ranked as one of the most boring books I ever read. The point of view switches between Dale Ingram and Stella Rigden-Ackeson , who were childhood friends and become lovers when they meet again. Stella is the Brewer’s wife and her relationship with Ingram causes her problems. Both of them are into rubber and bondage, but these are the only BDSM elements in the book.

Eventually, Dale finds someone else to indulge his bondage fantasies How the trio work out their relationship makes up the main part of the book.

Part of the problem with the story is that the language is very British and way too much of the sex scenes are spent with the women shouting unintelligible comments because they are gagged. The scenes themselves are lackluster, with very few specifics and aren’t all that plentiful. There’s also way too much discussion of cricket and other English sports which can be mind-numbing to a non English, non sports fan reader.

Overall, I was underwhelmed and won’t be looking for additional books by the author.

thebikersThe Biker’s Pup by Sean Michael

Story Rating: 3 out of 5 paddles

Lovers of Sean Michael will thoroughly enjoy this m/m kinky biker fest. In Biker’s Pup, a frightened twink, Nick, is found by Whip. Nick’s asshole lover, Dirk, is an abusive top who ignored Nick’s safeword and then beat him. Lucky for Nick, he finds his biker on a Harley to save the day.

This is a cute hook up story spanning a weekend at a gay biker rally. With Bears, Leatherman and bratty bottoms abounding, it can be overwhelming. For someone like Nick who’s never fit in and then left all alone, it’s downright scary. Whip is a gentleman top who finds the boy toy to meet his needs. This serendipitous meeting helps both of them out.

From a character perspective, it’s straightforward. All the characters fit the stereotypes people expect for gay kinky biker men. The plot is uncomplicated and a bit too easily resolved. For those who are Sean Michael fans, expect the requisite pup references as well as growling. The kinky part of this story is mild. Nothing too kinky goes on except for the initial threat which scared Nick so bad. There is a bit of cock teasing as possible sexual hook ups are suggested. For example, Trig,Whip’s best friend asked if Whip would share Nick. Whip flat out replies no.  Then the sneaky imagery is proposed.

“Damn it.” Trig winked right back. “I’d have to admit, if we shared him, we’d squish him.” (pg. 38, Kindle loc. 570-571)

Now I have images of two large hairy bears in leather chaps and nothing else sandwiching a hairless cute twink. Nick is in a ball gag with tears streaming down his face whilst Whip and Trig are shoving their thick cocks up his ass at the same time. Whip and Trig growling and grunting as they squish puppy dog eyes Nick between them. Mr. Michael makes a slight offhand comment and I’m falling down into the gutter. This quickie kinky m/m erotica is recommended for those who love happily ever afters for lost little boys toys.

Her World Her of Submission by Justine Elyot herworld

This is the third volume in a series of novels, charting the relationship between Jasper, a worldly movie director in his thirties and experienced Dominant and Sarah, a young historian and inexperienced submissive.

The first two volumes in the sequence are, His House of Submission and By His Command. It’s not necessary to have read the first two novels but they are so purely pleasurable that it will add to your enjoyment if you do so.

The author is one of my favorite authors in the erotic romance field, and most of her books have a good dose of sophisticated kink. She is a British author and her writing style is elegant, witty and literate and while this book in particular is full of sex and BDSM scenes it’s not at the expense of character development and a good plot.

Jasper and Sarah are drawn together not just by sexual attraction and a love of kink but also by a shared interest in Victoriana. In the first volume, Sarah is hired to catalogue Jasper’s extensive collection of historic artifacts and in this volume there’s a beautiful passage when she recalls her excitement at discovering Jasper’s most treasured collection of historic kinky implements;

“It had been the personal equivalent of uncovering the hoard of Tutankhamen and the golden king was Jasper.

How I had trembled, from a kind of holy fear, at what lay before me “.

Both Jasper and Sarah are very sympathetic, he is eager for commitment and all that it entails, while Sarah, a young woman at the beginning of her career, is more cautious.

I hope the author continues this series, especially as Jasper has persuaded Sarah to act with him in his next feature, which tells the story of a sadistic Victorian gentleman and his submissive maid.

Office Guide For the Punishment of Female Employees office

Story Rating: 3 out of 5 paddles

Sting Factor (kink): 4 out of 5

In which reality is there a department for female punishment at work? Because this is a reality many readers will support. This book at first glance may be humor and tongue in cheek poking fun. However, after reading through the entire book, HR harassment suits aside, it’s punishments I can agree to and wish were implemented for all employees, not just females.

If the world was a better place where a person doesn’t get disrespected after being punished, I would actually condone and support the punishments in this book. Most of them are humiliating and I believe it does push a point to make sure people behave appropriately. Unfortunately, since people are disrespectful more oft than not, this book would never work out. Still, it’s a lovely theory.

The corporal punishment in this book is quite fair for the most part. There are a couple which I don’t find appropriate. For example, where a female is either naked or scantily dressed to serve as waitresses for company functions falls, this is on the wrong side of line. This is the main one I felt is out of bounds. The others all taught either a physically painful or psychologically painful lesson.

The layout of the book is okay. It explained each punishment, the different levels and when it would be applied. Included are case studies listed after many of the punishments. The case studies are a nice touch although the writing of it is a little hokey. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but I think it’s because the instruction for discipline are more formal and the case studies more informal which gives it an off feeling. My recommendation if there is a follow up book, to study the Harvard Business School case studies. The format for those would give this book a higher polish.

What I did enjoy about the book is imagining people who misbehave at my work and thinking about how they would be punished according to this book. Of course, I also fantasized how I would be punished for breaking rules. Since it is a fantasy I run through my mind occasionally, this book does feed into my sexual fantasies quite well. This pseudo non-fiction book is recommended to corporal discipline lovers.
