Everdene by Melanie Hoskin everdenec

Story Rating: 3 out of 5 paddles

Sting Factor (kink): 1 out of 5

Blurb:

Nicknamed the ‘Icy Bitch’, Catherine Everdene is an independent career woman who wins over boardrooms using her flirtatious sparkle. Used to being in control, that all changes when she encounters Dillon Oak in the London office. Her seduction of his mind goes astray when he begins to penetrate the cracks in her closely-guarded heart, and she escapes to New York, where her complicated love life really starts to get messy. Her dominating and mischievous behaviour captures the attention of Bill Boldwood, an obsessive CEO with secret fetishes, and charming, but manipulative, alpha-male lawyer, Troy Selgent. Who will eventually win her heart? More to the point, who will survive to win her heart? Set in modern day London, New York and the Dorset countryside, Everdene is based on Thomas Hardy’s original love story, Far from the Madding Crowd. A classic romance, re-told with erotic undertones of domination & submission, Everdene is an emotional journey of love, heartbreak, death and friendship. Ideal reading for fans of classic literature as well as contemporary erotic romance. Excerpts: “Take off your shoes and clothes. I don’t want water dripped everywhere,” she said, just as suddenly as her observation; apparently she didn’t know the courtesy concept – only this freakish one. * * * ‘Maybe a husband-slave has his uses . . . vibrators can’t carry suitcases’ * * * With that her prank was set in motion; awaiting the arrival of Boldwood at work on Monday, and his opening of the hand-written addressed envelope marked ‘Private and Confidential’ that contained a card loaded with a gun of erotic suggestion. * * * Now he didn’t want the job long-term – he just wanted to fix what he’d left unfinished. Dillon was still being the knight in shining armor, only now he was there only to save the people, and not their Queen. * * * “Troy Selgent, but you, my lady, can call me Troy – or anything you like for that matter.” He handed her a business card and smiled, a salacious grin as he emphasized the ‘British lady reference’ and ‘call me anything’ parts. * * * ‘Wow, for a guy, he really is a romantic, sentimental wordsmith.’ * * * “So Neanderthal – I’ve been dragged into your cave,” she replied, rolling her eyes at him. * * * He looked down at the object; Catherine hadn’t stopped him coming into her office, nor had she hurriedly concealed the box – or the contents. Inside was a highly polished wooden object – a strange sort of bow shape with two wing screws at either end. On closer inspection, he saw that the shape was in fact two thinner shapes screwed together, and in the center was a small rectangular hole. He recalled seeing a similar object sitting on a shelf in Mistress Avianne’s basement room back in London. “I don’t know what it is,” said Catherine, looking blankly at him. * * * “Yes, because New York socialite strong-minded women go around with labels saying ‘I whip men for fun’,” replied Liddy sarcastically.

Review:

Please note: This book has a limited review due to the reviewer did not finish this book.

This is a very articulate and well written story. The events are described in detail ( sometimes to much detail ) but for those of you who like places and feelings described in depth you may enjoy this.

Even though the main character is a Dominatrix the action is very slow. If you are new to this kink and not yet ready to jump in feet first this book could introduce you to the possibility of exploring this mind set.

This was not really my kind of book and I was unable to finish the story.

Review:

Luckily, Gavin is not all airhead when he meets and talks to Terry.  Terry is a more experienced male in more ways than just BDSM.  He’s happy to show Gavin the ropes, so to speak.  What turns out to be some fun flirtation turns into a more serious and committed relationship.  The two characters become more endearing as the story progresses.  Gavin is a rambunctious puppy and he brings out the fun in Terry.  Terry more mature outlook needs the spontaneity of Gavin’s infectious nature.  It’s a sweet mix.

This story is the second in the series.  It is recommended to read them in order.  As a standalone, it is just fine.  The BDSM in this story is light to medium depending on a reader’s experience.  The pace of the story is smooth and easy.  There are no jarring scenes or odd dialogue to pull a reader out of the story. This story is in first person from Gavin’s perspective.  There are times as it almost feels as if Gavin is speaking to the reader.  Not a particularly appealing point of view, but for Gavin it works.

This is sexy written piece enjoyable from beginning to end.  The descriptions are clear and sexy is erotic.  If the stories could be longer, it would be better.  As it is, each of T. Strange books whet the appetite and just as the reader is hooked, the tale ends.  Recommended for kinky m/m readers who love their leather Daddies riding motorcycles.

wendyWhy Vanilla Can Far More Abusive Than BDSM by Wendy Leigh, author of the “Unraveled” Trilogy.

With the publication of EL James’ “Grey” in which she affords a glimpse into the mind of a Dominant/Sadist, revealing, amongst other things, his yearning to insert a peeled ginger root into his submissive’s nether regions prior to punishment (a horrific departure for the average romance reader to contemplate) the accusations that BDSM is abuse have skyrocketed.

And they are certain to escalate further with the June 29 publication of my “Unraveled By Her” (the second book in my ‘Unraveled” trilogy) in which my hero subjects my heroine to an extensive and kaleidoscopic range of BDSM delights, and she adores every single second of them.

My answer to all those accusations?  Apart from being erotic, inspiring, exhilarating, dramatic and just plain pleasurable, BDSM is the most honest type of relationship available to men and women.

Unlike in Vanilla relationships, (which are generally shot through with subterfuge, so that, at the very least, participants in a Vanilla relationship often have to spend half the time straining to decipher one another’s unspoken motives, desires, emotions or lack of them) in a BDSM relationship, the participants know exactly what to expect from another in advance.

In BDSM, the boundaries are clear, the roles are defined ahead of time, there is no artifice (other than that agreed in advance for role play) and no need for false declarations of love and passion when the goal is sex and only sex.

From the outside looking in, and to the uninitiated, BDSM may appear to be abusive, but – by and large – that isn’t at all accurate.

The reality is that BDSM is generally practiced by sophisticated grown-ups who are clear about what they need, what they want, and who are honest from start to finish.

Vanilla love can be fuelled by unspoken power struggles, simmering anger caused by not being able to articulate desires, plus frustration at being afraid to act out fantasies. Whereas BDSM lovers put all their cards on the table from the first, the lines are drawn ahead of time, participants know what they want, and are unafraid to ask for it.

And I think it’s time for some distinguished academic to weigh in and conduct a serious study of BDSM relationships via Vanilla ones and come up with statistics on which of the two flourishes, which of the two is truly abusive, and which is not.

The end.

“Unraveled By Him,” and “Unraveled By Her,” and “Unraveled Together” (coming in October) by Wendy Leigh are published by Pocket Books, a division of Simon and Schuster. www.amazon.com

The Deepest Trust OneCutDeeper200

“So you’re telling me in those dark scenes, with a knife, blood and pain, that you never thought you were going to die?”

“Not exactly. I was afraid. That was part of the scene. He’s dangerous enough he could kill me. I know that. But he trusted me and I trusted him.”

“Why would he have to trust you? He was the one with the knife.”

I love to explore the different facets of what a BDSM relationship can entail.  I’ve read a lot of stories centered around the trust a submissive must have for the Dominant, but not so many centered around the trust the Dominant must have in the submissive.

Add in some edgier play, and trust becomes paramount.

I love the play between power and being powerless. A submissive deliberately makes herself powerless, but still has the power to stop the scene. A Dominant receives the power to control the scene, but is powerless if the sub calls a halt with her safeword.  It’s a subtle, intricately beautiful dance of trust, and I got to thinking more and more about the power a submissive has to stop the scene.

What if the Dominant is afraid he’d go too far? If he has some darker needs involving blood play and he has serious concerns that he won’t be able to stop? So much self-doubt, in fact, that he ceases playing all together.  He doesn’t trust himself.

But SHE trusts him.  In One Cut Deeper, Ranay learns that she has more power than she ever thought possible. She can bring a dangerous man with a thirst for blood to his knees with a single word. Only she can stop him. Only she can save him.

If you enjoy darker, intense stories with knives and blood plays, I hope you’ll give One Cut Deeper a try!

Her needs are dark. His are dangerous.

Charlie MacNiall has been bringing his beautiful king shepherd to the vet clinic where Ranay Killian works for the better part of a year. She doesn’t realize he’s been slowly wooing her. She certainly has no idea that he picked her deliberately—that she is to become his. A broken heart and a desperate desire to be dominated make her the perfect victim.

His perfect victim.

Charlie fixes Ranay, testing her emotional limits while pushing her sexual boundaries past anything she’d imagined possible. Pain is their shared pleasure…until Charlie disappears and Ranay is all but destroyed.

The FBI says the man she loves is a serial killer. Ranay can’t deny there’s a darkness in Charlie, a monstrous hunger that drives him to the brink. She even believes he could kill. But Charlie’s hunger is what bonds them—it’s the foundation of their love. Would he actually kill her?

Review:

What would happen if every secret, subconscious desire was brought out and fulfilled? When Jody buys a Virtual Mistress, his deepest sexual needs are revealed and the journey brings him to his knees.

If you’re looking for tender, loving connections between characters, this is not the book for you.  If you want a brilliant portrayal of a man discovering his true sexual nature, this is perfect. Jody is intrigued by the Virtual Mistress and purchases the item with the intention of titillation and relief of boredom. He has no idea that the results would take him further into his own kink than he ever knew.

I love how Jody processes one experience after another. The story is in first person and I liked Jody as a character. He’s a complex guy who is aware of his submissive side, but not how deep that submission goes. The book is a series of fantasies with various virtual women who lead him, step by step, to his ultimate sexual discovery. The sex scenes are damn good. I missed the more emotional flavor that comes from a couple discovering love, but Jody’s adventure is about finding out who he is and what he needs. That emotion gives the sex scenes the punch they need.

“Virtual Mistress” isn’t going to be everyone’s cup of tea, but I enjoyed the ride and none of it felt dirty or written for shock value. The emotions that Jody felt rang true and made the book one I’d recommend.

The Keyholder by Claire Thompson keyholder

Review:

The main characters are Nora and Charles who are a couple, alomg with Phillip, Eva and Jack. The first few chapters set up the rest of the story. We first meet Nora,Charles, Phillip and Jack at Hawthorne’s, a private club. It is Phillip, who is the master keyholder, that Nora has a bad feeling about from the start.

On one occasion Jack, who is friends with Nora and Charles, accompanies Nora to Hawthorne’s when Charles could not make it. This is where they witness first hand Phillip’s handling of subs. Jack is an artist, recently moved to NYC. A single Dom but hoping to find and share what Nora and Charles have, yet skeptical he will actually find it. He sticks to being a dedicated workaholic, almost to a fault. Nora is a sub and she is married to Charles. She is a masochist. Besides being sensitive to physical pain that sends her spiralling erotically into subspace. She is sensitive to the emotional energy others. She doesn’t like Phillip from the start. Phillip is devilishly handsome and is hiding a dark side. He seems a bit too controlling, as master keyholder and also over his treatment of the subs. During a special showing of new house subs, he treats them especially strict. It is in part of the story we as the reader find out the REAL reason for Nora’s supposed feelings about Phillip.

Eva, is found and rescued. She had been held captive by Phillip and since Jack rescued her, she decides, with his permission, to stay with him. Their relationship grows slowly. His attraction towards her is there but he never acts on it, knowing she is healing from her ordeal. As time passes Eva wants more than kindness from Jack. She makes plans to make him hers, but it backfires. Eva leaves but it doesn’t take Jack long to pursue her.

There are elements of this story I love. The D/s play from the physical to the emotional were very precise. I am glad Mrs. Thompson took time to flesh out these scenes. The idea of Blake Stanton aka Phillip was a little far fetched but for the sake of the plot it worked out.

Although I am not a fan of the M/F theme (there was mention of a hetero Dom taking on a male sub for a swap scene but no other details were given). I am a fan of great writing. I love BDSM when it is closely related to the D/s dynamic. A lot of the scenes were about spanking but the underlying tone of two people shedding their outer layer and stepping into their Dominant or submissive persona is always fascinating for me to witness.
