Review:

If you are a fan of literate erotica, READ THIS. This is a beautiful collection of stories and poems with sometimes subtle and sometimes overt but always pervasive themes of D/s. In the author’s own words, “It depicts a dark and little-understood area of sexuality, often outside of what we recognize as a sexual context.”

These are all contemporary stories, but the book was first published in 1995, so by now they have an almost retro feel. At the time, books like this were comparatively rare, and I think that’s something to appreciate as one reads through this: that in a time of relative scarcity, something so extraordinary was born.

Poetry is difficult to accomplish without looking foolish. That all of the poems here are outstanding is incredible in itself.

“Prometheus and Hercules” is especially amazing. So short, yet powerful.  “The Tarot of Hector” is hair-raising if read aloud.

And then we get to the stories. This is the sort of writing that makes me weep for ever wishing to become a writer, because I’m never going to produce anything this good.

These are some of the most emotionally complex erotic stories I have ever read. They are layered, nuanced, deeply emotional, sexually charged, and yet . . . they are not, for the most part, graphic in the slightest. They are erotic; desire is the uniting theme, and submission, the connections we create, and the holds those connections have over us, even years later.

Review:

This book was hot and made me think. I absolutely loved how Cari switched the point of view at every chapter. Getting to see and feel what Klaus was thinking and feeling was fantastic. It’s hard to get into the mind of a Dom. I always wonder what they’re thinking when they work on a sub. This was fantastic and insightful look into the makings of a new Dom. And then there’s Jodie, a strong woman who thinks she knows what she wants, to make a documentary on what it would be like to be kidnapped and be a slave. She got the slave part right even if that wasn’t what she’d initially intended. I loved how she internalized and was able to think about things the more she wasn’t allowed to talk. I agree….sometimes it is really hard to know what to say and when to say it. To have that choice taken away from you and to just BE .is interesting. The story got me hot and I enjoyed reading it so much I hated to put it down. Wonderful ending and a beautiful new couple!

Review:

This is a solid eleven-story anthology with good writing, engaging stories, and a nice variety of themes. I recommend it for fans of contemporary erotica and modern Anglophiles.

Each of the stories has something to offer, and they are surprisingly varied. Each makes convincing and imaginative use of London’s unique topography, and shows a slightly different side of the legendary city.

“Double Exposure” by Jay Lawrence opens the anthology with a solid shot, a really enjoyable little voyeuristic tale that sets the stage nicely for things to come. Notable offerings include “Falling Down” by James “Grim” Desborough, where a game of chase that begins on the tube becomes some severely hot rough-and-ready sex in London’s seedy alleys. Also, “The Woman From Aldgate West” by Neil James Hudson was a wonderful, odd sort of supernatural little story in the weird tale vein with an interesting premise and lovely tone. Frances Jones’ “Artefacts” would have been at home in a supernatural-themed anthology, though there’s nothing explicitly supernatural about it, the implications are beautifully done. “Lost Property”, by Elizabeth Coldwell, answers the question of what happens to things left on the subway, and who returns them to their owners; in this case, a suitcase full of some very, very naughty things.

It’s really hard to spotlight the standouts, when they are almost all, to a one, superb. Yes, there are a couple of duds, but there’s no need to pick on them when the anthology is so solid, with eleven stories to choose from. And, well, what didn’t work for me might really work for someone else.

Sin Alley: Gamble’s Whip by Parker Ford sinalley

Review:

Contains spoilers, read with caution:

Sadie’s husband gives her the go ahead to visit and enjoy Sin Alley (a red light district type setting in California). He can’t perform as he once could but he wants Sadie to be fulfilled, if only for one night.

Sadie loves pain and pleasure. She wants to go to Sin Alley but only of her husband comes along. Davis agrees and she visits the same man she saw in passing years before (when they visited Sin Alley but did not partake of the pleasures).Tonight is different. Sadie will be “whipped and penetrated”, as Gamble the Dom puts it.

This was a red hot book! I loved the tenderness between Sadie and her disabled husband in the beginning and Sadie’s fantasizing about Gamble in the middle. Towards the end when she was tied to his cross and about to feel the kiss of his whip for the first time. I almost wanted to flinch.

I thought I recognized the author’s name and I have seen reviews of her other stories on Amazon. I think I will pick up a longer book for my next go. This was a big hit.

Review:

Teman and his boyhood friend Jasim are professional thieves, although they prefer to think of themselves as specialists in the recovery of lost items, by any means. As “Choices” opens, they are caught in a trap set by the palace guards. They are taken to the captain of the guards, who gives them a choice: be cast into the dungeon or agree to become pleasure slaves in the palace. Thinking that life in the palace would offer a better chance of escape, they both agree to become slaves.

In the slave quarters, Teman and Jasim are trained to be submissive sex slaves, able to take pain as pleasure and unable to achieve orgasm without permission from their master. They become good friends with the two slaves who help with their training, Cyrus and Nadir. Once trained, Teman is called to service the king, a truly sadistic cruel man who regards his slaves as less than human and delights in testing how much pain they can take without any sexual relief. But there are other masters in the palace that are not so unpleasant, and Teman has also caught the attention of the crown prince, Bathasar.

Bathasar is the complete opposite of his father the king. He has never used the pleasure slaves, although he is quite familiar with the training they undergo. Bathasar has been fascinated by Teman since his first presentation at court, although he observes the young slave from a distance. But one night, after an altercation at a state dinner, he feels compelled to take Teman back to his quarters, to keep him out of the clutches of both the king and a bothersome foreign guest. Once alone with the handsome slave, Bathasar is unable to keep himself from enjoying the pleasures that Teman has been trained to provide, and even to need. For his part, Teman feels something different for the prince than he has felt with any other master.

Review:

What a delightful find! I absolutely recommend this one, no hesitation.

Lila has no idea that a surprise awaits her when her friend insists that she spend a weekend relaxing in a remote cabin. The surprise is Theo, an utterly gorgeous gentleman ready to take care of everything . . . including Lila. Even more surprising, though she hasn’t seen him in many, many years, she knows Theo: the sexy big brother of her childhood best friend. Now he’s back within reach, and is eager to give her pleasure – and pain – to help her relax body and mind. Awesomeness ensues.

Everything about this felt lovely. The setup, the setting, the way both characters were so sympathetic and well-drawn, and their chemistry with one another. Lovely. And the writing was excellent. Top notch, zero complaints, absolutely lovely. Lovely all around.  I want to throw that word around like confetti.

The kinky content is on the softer side; there’s some light bondage here, some mild switching, some creative and very sexy use of found objects. (Bobby pin nipple torture? Been there, done that, it was nice.) It’s mild, but it’s made obvious that it’s difficult and a little scary to Lila, though she is by no means reluctant. That makes it as intense as a much heavier scene would’ve been with a different set of characters.

Some things I especially loved. . . .

Review:

This short story spanned the realm from vicious sado-masochism to sweet.

Gina is a slave for rent for an exclusive BDSM Club. She both loves and hates submitting to a different master each time. While her external appearance is that of a perfect submissive, her internal view is a sarcastic bitch, mentally calling the Dom names. Until she scenes with Mike, a sadistic Dom who sees through her act and breaks through to the true submissive.  But she also breaks down the walls he has built since the breakup of his wife. Can these two actually find happiness together?

The story contains anal sex, M/M action, bondage, flogging, electric play and hard core BDSM action. Some of the scenes were so intense as to be uncomfortable for the reader, but were obviously what the participants needed.

Synopsis:

As a sub, Shara wants to prove to herself that she’s the one who is really in control. Shara is about to get a paddling, one that will test her pain threshold and take her to new levels. The stud-covered paddle will undoubtedly hurt, but she’s determined to show her Dom, John, that she can take whatever he can give her. John is determined to show Shara that saying their safe word when she can’t take any more is an act of trust, not one of her being weak. Her safety is his primary concern and he will stop play if he feels she’s approaching the point where even subspace won’t save her. Together they go on a journey of discovery, where Shara battles with relinquishing that final nugget of herself she’s always held back. Will she trust him enough to admit he was right and she was wrong?

Review:

Hot! I love this story and the message it sends. Shara has wanted to test her pain threshold and tonight she gets to do just that. John is worried that she will not safe word if the pain becomes too much.

The chemistry between Shara and John was explosive. The sex scenes were hot. I enjoyed the message the short story seemed to tell at the same time. Having your Dom know you will safe word if it’s necessary is an important part of safe play.

The writing was great. The story was well formed. At forty-five pages, this was a great short story that packs a punch.

Review:

Wow, this was a very hot book. Many scenes were described so well that I felt that I was in the middle of them. The author did a lot of research getting the scenarios just right and I definitely would love to meet any of the main men in this story.

There were a few words that were misspelled and a couple that were used improperly. The author should have written two or three books instead of cramming so much into one. I did enjoy the book and would absolutely read another by this author.

Review:

I enjoyed this, even though it wasn’t tremendously well-written. I am, in fact, all tied up – pun intended – over this one. I get really cranky about bad writing, but it’s so often paired with bad characterization and lousy plotting and just general not-sexiness that it’s usually not hard to pan books that don’t measure up line-by-line. This was sub-par on a literary level, but it did everything else very, very well, which puts me in the awkward position of not knowing whether to recommend it or not. For that reason, I will try to be helpful and detailed.  This review is a little long.

If you have a thing for caning/corporal punishment, love pillories, like humiliation, and are into medical play, I actually think you might want to give it some thought. The writing leaves quite a bit to be desired, but the kinky content is really quite good. There’s forced orgasm by masturbation, which I love with a fiery and entirely filthy passion, but be advised that there is no other sort of fucking.  I don’t find that problematic, but in case you do, there you go.

The setup is fantastic. College professor Jacqueline Reed proposes and conducts a study on the effects of corporal punishment on academic performance. To properly conduct this study, she pays a visit to Mistress Mariella Jane Hall, and there she both observes a caning and discipline scene performed on a sissy maid (there’s a little something for those of you into forced feminization) and is subjected to a vigorous caning, herself.  Now armed with the knowledge of what it’s like on both sides of the pillory, she embarks on her study. Two students are chosen for the experimental group. She pillories them and attaches sensors to their genitals to monitor arousal, which is, of course, completely humiliating, and administers punishment.
