This book has a intriguing plot with a married women being aroused by another man with all the guilt and shame that goes with this dynamic but her husband approves and encourages this in his wife. A game of exhibitionism and voyeurism ensue with the husband’s business partner in the middle playing the delicate role of seducer to a wanting wife and voyeuristic husband. The tone of the book is emotional and strong, throwing  the reader into this world of arousal and blurred emotions. The book keeps a balance between these sometimes conflicting emotions and drawing the audience into the developing fold of characters. This is an enjoyable short read with a lot of interesting elements and a lovely portrayal of a functioning alternative relationship dynamic. Please note there was no BDSM content to go with these other kinks that are explored well within the pages. Overall a well written story worth a read for anyone who enjoys a subtle twist on the traditional relationship.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5 Paddles

Blurb:

Lucy isn’t feeling too happy about being pressured to give a formal business presentation ahead of schedule. Her nervousness only increases when she’s met at the office by Jonathon Cooper, her manager and also her commanding lover… and then a handsome stranger. Just what sort of “presentation” does Mr. Cooper have in mind for her?

Review:

Sharing Lucy is the perfect story to read on a cold night – maybe with a loved one around to share in the erotic telling. The short story (less than 20 pages) will heat you up and leaving you wanting more so be ready to have a cool drink at hand or a partner with whom you can work off some pent up energy.

There isn’t much to say beyond the blurb and the characters are fairly unknown to us but for this one scene within their lives. Sharing Lucy includes some bondage, D/s, and a threesome. Mr. Cooper has decided to share Lucy for her presentation. This is a simple snippet of time in their relationship without a lot of history or future plans and it works as it is.

So, if you are looking for a quick thrill with a lot of heat, a dominating man, submissive woman, and another man to add to the spice, get your hand on Sharing Lucy and enjoy it.

Alexa has been eying her coworker Sebastian for some time now. When a chance meeting in a conference room and some boldness that Alexa never knew she had, brings them together the sparks fly. When both Alexa’s and Sebastian’s pasts come looking for them they both must learn to trust each other and their love.

Sebastian is a nice man and a good Dom when it comes to Alexa. He is willing to bring her into his world slowly. Alexa is more than willing to try new things with Sebastian and longs to please him. While I enjoyed seeing their relationship start to develop Sebastian and Alexa were not for me. I had a hard time connecting with them and found this book a dry read at times. I would have liked a bit more character development. Both have their past show up and quickly dealt with. Sebastian’s problems with his past seem like a blip in the story that seem to have not really been dealt with completely and while Alexa’s past is dealt with more in the book it still seemed a bit rushed.

As this is a review site for BDSM books and such I will mention the sex. There is a lot and most of it with Alexa and Sebastian is light on the BDSM. There is one scene where he shows her his lifestyle and his friends, which does include Alexa watching a flogging but that is about the extent of it. I would have enjoyed a bit more diversity in their sex; it seemed to me that the spanking was a bit overdone. I know it was pivotal to the story and pertained to Alexa’s past as well but at times it got to be much.

It’s two in the morning, and Mariska is dangling from a rope and displaying a lot of flesh to her tormentors. And she giggles. She’s been looking for something new in her life, and being a film extra in a low-budget zombie horror movie is certainly new… Twelve stunning chapters follow Mariska’s journey from barista to member of a group of bohemian artists, actors and others. She’s inducted into their fetish-oriented lifestyle, and along the way she’s tied, whipped, fisted and more in situations ranging from a film set to a lesbian club to an art exhibition. Oh, and somehow she finds time to write a journal about it. Fulani’s erotic stories, often dark and with BDSM-based themes, have appeared in numerous anthologies and ‘zines.

Review:
Hanging Around has a lot of different fetishes represented in Mariska’s stories. While all the same characters are present throughout, each chapter is a snippet of another exciting event in Mariska’s life – except for a few that are told from another woman’s perspective.

Mariska is a young woman looking for something new. And she has found it. As she meets a few new people, she finds herself in a world of bondage, pain, D/s, and free love. A lot of this made me think of the free open love you hear about from the 70’s. There is no set partner for Mariska although she does lean towards a few.

As Mariska begins exploring more of her sexuality, she engages in numerous exploits and enjoys every bit of them. She is displayed as art, photographed, sketched, bound, gagged, whipped, and so much more. This is a refreshing tale of being able to revel in your sexuality as Mariska partners with men and women to explore new sensations.

Jack is hired by Robert to be a companion. Robert is in a wheelchair and he is still functional , but his handicap has made him stay inside. He has been away from men for two years. Jack has other clients and is very professional. When Robert hesitates Jack gently urges Robert, asking him what he would like him to do next.

They have conversations, drink tea and have sweet rolls. They grow more fond of each others company besides the fact that Robert is once again able to enjoy the sexual company of a man. Jack feels strange. Being the object of affection and attention instead of giving it to his suitor.

I have always said I’m not a fan of historical romance, meaning I don’t actively seek this genre out to read. But in doing reviews I am finding out the setting can come to life and frame the story just as nicely. I have never read anything by this author but I enjoyed this book about a handicapped man finding love. As I read the story further it becomes more clear why Robert wants to pay for companionship rather than seek a genuine relationship. But as it sometimes happens even using someone for only pleasure can turn into real love. The D/s theme is present but lightly used. Jack is given commands and finds he is sexually excited when he is told what to do by Robert. I would recommend this to fans of sensual m/m romance with a historical setting.

The Pet Shop

Rating: 3.5 out of 5 Paddles

I recently started reviewing books for BDSM Book Reviews, and for my first book, I selected The Pet Shop by K D Grace and I have to say I quite enjoyed it.

The Pet Shop is about Stella James, an employee for a UK-based company called Strigida. The book begins with Stella receiving a special reward from her bosses at Strigida for all her recent hard work. Stella isn’t expecting the gift they provide and is shocked and a bit scandalized to discover that she has been given a Pet. Up to this point, Stella has never heard of a Pet before, but her boss Anne O’Kelly provides her with a manual and leaves them to each others company. Her Pet is named Tino and is mischievous as well as unwilling to give up after his initial attempts to win Stella’s interest. By the end of the weekend she’s given in to the Pet and can’t get him out of her mind.

What Stella doesn’t know is that there is much more to Tino and the Pet Shop. She struggles to get more time with Tino, a pet in high demand, only to discover his real life identity. She gets several shocks throughout her journey including the training on how to be a Pet. Eventually, she gets a real behind the scenes peek at what the Pet Shop is and how it began. It seems that many people in her life aren’t who or what she thought they were and she ends up in a tailspin.

Subtext: A Modern Day Tale of Female Submission
Kate Marley
Xcite Books [link to buy]
ISBN-10: 1907016457
ISBN-13: 978-1907016455

Rating: 3.5 out of 5 Paddles

Subtext is the story about Kate, a submissive, told in the first person. In the beginning of the book I was pulled in and found Kate and her dominant boyfriend very interesting. When another woman was introduced into the dynamic, I was a bit turned off. It didn’t matter though because soon Kate was on to a new dominant boyfriend. I hoped he would be better than the first, but he wasn’t. He was a mean SOB who said he was a dominant in order to mistreat Kate in many ways.

I know that people can be sadistic in D/s. As a Domme myself, I understand. I have given my submissive pain and he has eagerly and willingly accepted it. But I believe in Subtext some of Kate’s “punishments” were a bit extreme and could actually cause some real damage. I don’t remember safe words ever discussed or used and thought a few times she should have been yelling hers at the top of her lungs.

Now as far as writing, Subtext was well written. And like I mentioned earlier it is written in first person which isn’t always the easiest thing to do. The author did a great job writing the book, I just wished I would have liked it more. Now if there was another book written where Kate realized she was really a Domme… now that I would definitely read.

Yes Ma’am

Yes Ma’am is a collection of six FemDom stories from Kay Jaybee from Xcite books. Overall, each of the six were very well written and professional – I enjoyed them all on some level. However, just as no two Dominas are ever going to slap you the same, I did enjoy a couple of the stories more than the others.

“Lying In Wait” was good story about a Cadet needing something that only the dominant military women around him could supply. Fans of strong women in uniform will particularly enjoy this. “Black” was full of mystery, allowing your mind to fill in a lot of the story around it. For those that lean more towards the masochistic side, this was the story for you. “Don’t You, Emma?” was very, very good – a story of a Domina and the inexperienced male and more experienced female submissives in her life. It was hot story – but not as hot as the best of the bunch, “Dear Claire”. At least for this sub, this was the best offering of the book. Where to start? How about complete immobilization, followed by some absolutely pitch-perfect objectification. Add multiple Dominas, some hot BDSM sex and helplessness and you get the story that I remember most when I think about this book.

Rounding out the book is “Not Taking the Tube”, a wham-bam-thank-you-Mistress-Ma’am story of spontaneous erotic interaction and “Rachel’s Twisted Tale”, a softer story that plums the depths of a submissive’s attachment and devotion to a Domina that includes the excellent closing line of “So this is the bit where we all live painfully, ever after..” If only all bottoms, subs and slaves have this same wish granted.

I, OMEGA
Kari Gregg

ISBN: 978-1-61118-563-8

Rating: 3.5 out of 5 Paddles

Befuddled by the twists and turns in I, Omega? You aren’t the only one. Why would Ms. Gregg do this? Let it never be said that Ms. Gregg writes straightforward stories. Her style has the reader screaming in frustration as not all goes the way our neat little minds prefer to plan. Instead, she purposely juxtaposes contradictory actions to force readers to question the situation. Not all is what it seems. Her need to rip our hearts out in sorrow, generate frustration or fan flames of anger continues to show through in this latest story.

I enjoyed the concept of I, Omega. Gabriel is a submissive on the run from a very alpha werewolf dom. He’s been on the run for two months and his time has run out. Cal hunted his tail down and is dragging Gabriel into a total power exchange 24/7 relationship. Gabriel is obviously freaked out of his mind. Cal’s heavy handiness smacks of abusive Dom. On top of this, it appears others are also hunting Gabriel.

This short story is all from Gabriel’s point of view. We are dropped into a world where the werewolf mythology is not completely defined nor explained. As a reader, we are on the same roller-coaster ride with Gabriel and I’m not sure I like it. Cal seems to be a mind reader yet he’s constantly treating Gabriel in contradictory ways. I wanted to slap Cal upside the head several times and scream “RED! RED!”
