Review:

I enjoyed this, even though it wasn’t tremendously well-written. I am, in fact, all tied up – pun intended – over this one. I get really cranky about bad writing, but it’s so often paired with bad characterization and lousy plotting and just general not-sexiness that it’s usually not hard to pan books that don’t measure up line-by-line. This was sub-par on a literary level, but it did everything else very, very well, which puts me in the awkward position of not knowing whether to recommend it or not. For that reason, I will try to be helpful and detailed.  This review is a little long.

If you have a thing for caning/corporal punishment, love pillories, like humiliation, and are into medical play, I actually think you might want to give it some thought. The writing leaves quite a bit to be desired, but the kinky content is really quite good. There’s forced orgasm by masturbation, which I love with a fiery and entirely filthy passion, but be advised that there is no other sort of fucking.  I don’t find that problematic, but in case you do, there you go.

The setup is fantastic. College professor Jacqueline Reed proposes and conducts a study on the effects of corporal punishment on academic performance. To properly conduct this study, she pays a visit to Mistress Mariella Jane Hall, and there she both observes a caning and discipline scene performed on a sissy maid (there’s a little something for those of you into forced feminization) and is subjected to a vigorous caning, herself.  Now armed with the knowledge of what it’s like on both sides of the pillory, she embarks on her study. Two students are chosen for the experimental group. She pillories them and attaches sensors to their genitals to monitor arousal, which is, of course, completely humiliating, and administers punishment.

In the age of digital publishing absolutely anyone can self-publish a book and have it available to purchase on Amazon. Unfortunately, often that route to becoming a published author is ill advised. Commonly these vanity press ventures are amateurish at best and suffer from unprofessional cover art, numerous proofreading errors, and an overall lack of objective editorial input.

A recent example of this sort of publishing misstep is Louis Antonucci’s Tokyo Sex Slave, a self-published erotic book that was definitely not yet ready to go to market and would have benefited greatly from oversight by a publisher that specializes in erotica. To its credit, this book has a refreshingly novel premise. It chronicles the misadventures of a struggling male model whose dream assignment to Tokyo turns into a nightmare when he discovers his Japanese handlers intend to force him to be a male prostitute serving wealthy and kinky women for an indefinite period. Alas, the execution of that potentially compelling story is woefully flawed.

To begin with, the writing style is somewhat pedestrian. And besides the prose being simplistic and unrefined, the author’s use of language indicates that he is not a native English speaker. The text contains many curious phrases and misuses of idiomatic expressions that interfere with the flow of the story. Plus, there is also unintended humor as a result of the breathless manner in which the narrator describes his sexual excitation and activities.

Review:

Brandon, who is a vampire that lives off an allotted synthetic blood supply that is regulated by the government, hates humanity with everything in him. He meets a seemingly innocent girl, Trina, at Bite Club that he is drawn to and can’t seem t get her out of his head. After their first encounter where Brandon gets just a taste of her magnetic blood, he gets an invite to another club where he discovers that Trina is not only the owner but also a Mistress, and she wants to make him hers. Brandon resists at first but with the promise of real blood he surrenders himself.

For anyone who is looking for a BDSM experience this is not the book for you. It has a little bit of a power struggle (vampire vs. human), but that is about it. The characters are underdeveloped, and just when you think things are getting somewhere the book ends. There is one semi sex scene in the entire book, with seemingly the promise of more, but it never happens. This has the potential to be an awesome read but just falls short.

Synopsis:

Forced to give up the woman he loves due to the jealousy and treachery of others, Darius McKade walked away from the One who would have completed him. But fate will not be thwarted, and when a second chance is placed within his grasp once more, the Dom within hungers to rise to the challenge.

Review:

Past Unbound is first book in the House of Dom’s series by Ana Snow.  The author started the story off really well, in fact I loved the beginning. Unfortunately there was very little middle and virtually no end in this story. This story could have easily been 200+ pages instead of the 68 pages it is.

The sex scenes outside the story line were hot and well written.  The author did not explain but rather glossed over the major issues regarding trust and lies.  The Dom cheats and the author just skipped over it like it’s no big deal.  This story had a lot of potential but it just was not fleshed out.

Death comes in various forms. Seductive and sometimes violent, the Reaper pervades into life like a thief in the night, and you’ll never know when he may strike. He holds a secret desire, one which has haunted him for a millennia, an obsession for an entity opposite of himself. If he could conquer her? Her powers of light and strength would complete his majesty of darkness.

After all, the Death Angel, Bane has a reputation to maintain, but how well will he deal with a blow to his fragile ego once he learns the truth about the object of his coveted obsession?

The Angel of Willpower, Willa Mae finds that her strength may be her downfall, as she fights hard to permeate mankind with the will to survive. In her quest to imbue hope and strength to those who despair, she steps on Death’s toes and he vows revenge on the dark beauty.

Review:

I’m not sure that I would categorize this as a true BDSM themed story. It’s short and even though there are only a handful of characters it still confused me. For me it wasn’t clear that Death, the Reaper, and Bane were the same person. Plus the characters weren’t very likeable to me; although this is so short it’s hard to feel any attachment to any of them.

One thing that bothered me were the terms like his “pleasure inducing tool” and her “tight cavern” or his filling every “nook and cranny of your pussy” during sex. And “weeping slit” always is a turn off to me, but that’s me.

Lauren is always in charge. She’s the youngest VP of sales in the firms history. She’s too busy to attend the firms end of fiscal year party. Then she gets her sleeve stuck in the shredder. She’s trapped, vulnerable. Who comes to her rescue? Her best salesman, Rob. But Rob has a secret….he’s a Dominant. A Dominant who hasn’t found the right submissive to satisfy his insatiable needs.

Review:

With a title like Bossing the Boss, I was looking for a real strong alpha Dominant. That wasn’t what Rob was. A Dom, yes, but not a strong alpha….he wasn’t forceful in his commands at all. The bondage scene….didn’t really do a thing for me….mainly because of Rob. Lauren, on the other hand, her feelings& emotions…..rang to my subs heart. The need to submit….but only for the right Dom.

This is a short story that is part of a larger anthology called My Secret Life.  Paul has a problem: he suffers from premature ejaculation.  It is his shame, and something he has never dared deal with.

Then he meets Mistress.  In one look in an elevator, she recognizes he has issues and takes him under her wing for “therapy.”  This includes humiliation, but not shame.  He embraces the humiliation she heaps on him.  When she stops seeing him after three weeks, he feels as if she has reconnected him to life.

While the story was well written and edited, it didn’t connect emotionally.  Paul is a rather sad character and although “Mistress” helps him, she comes across as cold and manipulative.

Review:

With a title like The S & M Club, one would assume that this book includes an abundance of kinky BDSM scenarios, but sadly that is not the case. At Laura’s Lair, a private bondage club in Hollywood, Desiree, a sub-trainee, meets with her trainer, Mistress Devon, for the first time. After gruffly ordering the newbie sub around a bit and having her get on her hands and knees in her underwear, Mistress Devon instructs Desiree to reveal her darkest fantasies.

From then on until the last several pages, the book primarily consists of both Devon and Desiree sharing fantasies and past sexual adventures nonstop. The sexual exploits are fairly kinky but not BDSM oriented other than some light spanking, and they are told in a breathless fashion that is slightly superficial. When it finally looks like Devon is going to introduce Desiree to a little pain and pleasure play, instead she ties her spread-eagle to a table and brings her to multiple orgasms with her tongue and a vibrator. Before Desiree is fully recovered she is released from bondage and instructed to administer a severe paddling to her mistress then make love to her with a strapon – huh? A couple paragraphs after their coupling the book concludes with “And so began the adventures of Devon and Desiree!”

If someone had loaned me their copy of The S & M Club to read I probably wouldn’t have kept at it beyond page ten or so. But as a reviewer I have to read the entire book in order to be able to provide fair and balanced guidance to prospective readers. There is virtually no plot to this book, its characters are one-dimensional, and the way the sex scenes are written they are not particularly erotic. I doubt that I would recommend this book to anyone, but certainly not to lovers of BDSM fiction.

Review:

For anyone reasonably familiar with BDSM, Silk, by C. I. Macias, is not a book that they will likely find appealing. For starters, it is fairly clear that the author has at best a rudimentary understanding of what BDSM is all about. The scenarios that include elements of BDSM are almost laughable in the simplistic manner they are portrayed.

There really is no plot to the story beyond Sammie, the main character, running from one sexual episode to another. She seems to be constantly in heat, which gives the book an adolescent fantasy/wet dream quality. Add to that poor grammar, misspelled words, and inconsistent points of view and you have a feeble self-published novelette that deserves a pass by BDSM aficionados.

Synopsis:

Sarah, Nathaniel, and Lily resist unconditional love as they feed primal desires. Not believing the possibility of having it all, they struggle to believe that they, the “least of these”, rightfully deserve a lifetime of love and happiness– Especially with how graphically and unconventionally they choose to express themselves.

Each of the characters comes to realize how tortured their lives have become. Violent images, dreams, and actions occur as they spiral downward into their dark lives. As they each reach a personal impasse, they must decide how they will make their lives better. In the process, they must also mend broken intimate relationships with the ones they love.

This erotic, edgy tale describes and embraces elements of s/M lifestyle. Their personal proclivities are not condemned.

If a fish does not have fins, it becomes lifeless and sinks helplessly to the bottom of the water.

Humans are exactly the same way.

Review:

The premise of this book is that we are being told the story by a new man in Sarah’s life, so it is mostly written in third person. However the story is a very observational/analytical/case study tone (very similar to how the synopsis above is written).  What I found somewhat confusing were the transitions as most interactions were told in first person narrative.  Now I have read many books that switch views throughout the story, many of which are some of my favorites (JR Ward for one), but here the transitions were abrupt and not always well placed or denoted (i.e. new paragraph or section).  Some of that may just be eBook formating, but certainly not all.  Overall I found this difficult to follow along with and much of the time the story was somewhat stagnant.
