Witches’ Mark wmcover400x600full

Amanda Gannon and Paul Batteiger

Full-length novel, “emphatically recommended” on BDSM Book Reviews: http://www.bdsmbookreviews.com/2012/09/22/review-witches-mark-by-amanda-gannon/

When Stormy inherits her grandmother’s magical estate, she also inherits her enemy, Thomas Winter, a powerful, seemingly ageless warlock who wants to use Stormy’s body to complete an ancient sacrifice, as he once attempted to use her grandmother’s.  His humanity has been eroded by service to his unholy master, and now all that remains is lust, hunger, cruelty, and terrible beauty.

Winter seduces her, marks her for sacrifice.  Now they are bound together, marked by a destructive, inhuman power so ancient it doesn’t even have a name, an entity that seeks to gain a foothold in the mortal world at any cost.  It hungers and it must feed.

To prevent Winter from gaining access to the hall, its secrets, and her power, and prevent his master from gaining access to this world, she must call upon the few friends her grandmother left her:

Sex witch Eldarra, still mourning the loss of a wife and partner, teaches her to channel the strong sexual energy of Willowsong Hall’s scruffy and difficult – but handsome – groundskeeper.  Richard is sworn to protect Willowsong Hall and its lady at any price, and now finds himself sworn to Stormy.  And, when the mark placed upon her begins to sap her strength and power, he offers comfort and passion.

Marked for sacrifice, unable to resist its call, Stormy takes a desperate chance.  If she can turn Winter’s lover, victim, and apprentice Darius from his clutches, they may be able to find a way to undo what has been done.  Seducing a handsome, vulnerable boy isn’t a challenge or a chore, but the risk may cost her Richard’s trust, just when she’s beginning to think of him as a friend . . . and maybe more.

Review:

Stormy Willowsong finds herself in Angel Falls, moving from dreary London because she inherited her grandmother’s estate. As the last witch in her familial line, Willowsong Hall can only be kept by her. She also manages to inherit the hot groundskeeper, Richard Shackleton, and her grandmother’s friends…and her enemy, Thomas Winter. Through a street-punk who calls himself Darrius, Winter attempts to finish what he started with Melisande, calling forth his Master from the dark realms. Will Stormy and friends be able to stop him is the question.

This is a fantastic story, all told. While the story primarily follows Stormy or Darrius, each character is delivered with a depth that continues to pull you in. Mind control through magic and/or regular manipulation is the main kink found through the book, though
there’s a bit of bondage to be found as well. The sex scenes flow very well within the story and contain some surprising pairings. In
fact, there’s a bit of something for everyone, including both hetero- and homosexual pairings as well as male-male-female and
female-female-male threesomes. I would emphatically recommend this book for anyone who enjoys modern fantasy.

Blurb:

Avelia, daughter of a rebel duke, wishes to serve her House by going to war. She flees an unwanted marriage and places herself on the front lines by standing in for her best friend. Thinking to find herself with an easy post, she assumes his identity, but winds up under the command of the magnetic and ruthless general himself. When her secret outs, the honor of her family is called into question, and she must prove that she is no traitor. Rather than be dismissed for her deception, she agrees to submit herself to the general’s testing. To what lengths will Avelia go to prove her loyalty to her ruthless master? To what lengths will he go to test her? This book contains explicit (albeit fictional) sex and is intended for adults only. All characters are over 18. The material contained in this book may be offensive to some readers. Hour of the Gryphon contains scenes of discipline and borderline non-consensual encounters.

Review:

An entertaining, if simplistic tale of two friends trading places and the repercussions of their decision.

THE HOUR OF THE GRYPHON follows the young noblewoman, Avelia as she assumes her best friend, Alaric’s place on the battlefront. Knowing he would never survive his first engagement and wanting more for herself she eagerly suggests the switch.  Pretending is easy, but succeeding under close quarters is near impossible—and her secret is soon forfeit.

Upon reporting  Avelia is assigned as a personal squire to the field commander, General Ionvar;  the position vacated by his other squire’sposthumous promotion. Things quickly unravel for Avelia after discovery byEremon, Ionvar’s other squire and companion in carnal activities. Blackmail doesn’t save her when Ionvar’s comes upon them.
