Review:

Brandon, who is a vampire that lives off an allotted synthetic blood supply that is regulated by the government, hates humanity with everything in him. He meets a seemingly innocent girl, Trina, at Bite Club that he is drawn to and can’t seem t get her out of his head. After their first encounter where Brandon gets just a taste of her magnetic blood, he gets an invite to another club where he discovers that Trina is not only the owner but also a Mistress, and she wants to make him hers. Brandon resists at first but with the promise of real blood he surrenders himself.

For anyone who is looking for a BDSM experience this is not the book for you. It has a little bit of a power struggle (vampire vs. human), but that is about it. The characters are underdeveloped, and just when you think things are getting somewhere the book ends. There is one semi sex scene in the entire book, with seemingly the promise of more, but it never happens. This has the potential to be an awesome read but just falls short.

If erotic writers had editors who were Dommes, I wonder if the books I eagerly anticipate would publish quicker and with hotter sex scenes. I have to admire Celene in this book, luring reluctant Rodney into her little den of depravities. Rodney is a nervous writer. He writes eloquently and his mainstream book is a hit, but he hasn’t written anything lately. Celene is his editor who rules her domain with an iron fist. Or shall we say, a riding crop willing to dole out punishment at anytime. She wants Rodney to be part of her pet project.

The sex scenes written under duress by Rodney in this book in response to Celene’s challenging demands are hot. I found them to be smexy and worth reading. The actual plot of this story where Celene leads Rodney into BDSM and ends up playing with him for real, I could have done without. I settled on a 3 paddle because I averaged my rating for the sex content with the storyline. Honestly, the story line didn’t do it for me. I wasn’t engaged with the characters and their dialog was rather melodramatic at times. Celene’s secretary was a side plot that didn’t mesh well with the over story for me. The petty jealous woman took away from the story and I would have rated this just as a 2 paddle because it did not captivate me.

The sex from Rodney’s writing on the other hand, with his fantasies and non consensual plots, these I enjoyed greatly. I enjoyed these more than the supposed sexual tension between Rodney and Celene. Based on sex scene alone, I would have rated this book a 4 paddle because it made me want to jump my husband after reading it.
