Review:

Dylan, Cole, and Brandon have a good life together. They’re all insufferably hot, their landscaping business is booming, and the sex is fantastic. Everything seems perfect until a secret from Dylan’s past comes back to literally haunt him – his brother’s vicious rape and murder. Alienated by his visions, tormented by past wrongs, convinced of his own guilt, he begins to fall apart, and it’s up to the other two to save him. If they can.

Maybe a mild trigger warning on this one; there’s no flashbacks, there’s only some brief discussion of what happened.

The sex here is hot. There are no whips and chains, no ropes and paddles, just rough sex and lots of it.  Lots of D/s with verbal domination, lots of delicious dirty talking. It’s very good. If you want something flashy with all the bells and whistles, this probably won’t give you what you’re looking for, but if you want hot sex that’s mostly of the “Go here, slave; do this, slut; and by the way, I own your ass” variety – and I am a huge fan of that – there’s plenty of that here. It’s not super-strong, the relationship remains playful and affectionate throughout, and there is not anything like a 24/7 dynamic here. Just three horny guys who fall into having sex whenever they feel like it.

Cole, especially, is ragingly sexy, and the best character in the book. He’s commanding but good-hearted, rough when he needs to be and approachable and gentle the rest of the time. A nice mix of traits, instead of an inflexible stereotype.

Devlin works at a prestigious conservative company, doing what we’re never told, but once freed from the confines of the office he fancies himself a bad boy, with desires he keeps hidden. He fancies another man in his office, Lucas, but isn’t sure the man could deal with Devlin’s kinky needs. Devlin spends time on a fetish web site, whose owner Granger has taken an interest in him. Granger thinks Devlin might be just the boy he’s looking for, although Granger already has a partner, Tanner, about whom there’s a dark secret.

Actually, just about everybody in this book has ‘dark’ secrets, and the author never misses an opportunity to remind us of that at every turn. The amateurish attempts to create a sense of foreboding were so numerous that they got really annoying. Tanner’s secret is so blatantly telegraphed it isn’t much of surprise. Devlin’s secret desires are supposedly so extreme that they would make even hard-core kinksters blanch. I don’t think of myself as a real hard-core kinkster, but when Devlin’s ‘forced fantasy’ is played out towards the end, I had to think, “Pfft, that’s it?” The scene is hard core to be sure, but it’s fairly average as BDSM fantasies go. Lucas is the only one for whom his ‘complication’, as he put it, is something of a surprise, but he’s the least developed of the main characters.

I love being here on Valentine’s Day and thank you very much for having me. It’s the day for love and sharing together, right? In truth I am not a huge fan of simply celebrating the art of love on one day alone. I think you need to indulge in love in so many ways all throughout the year. Having said that, there are several kinds of relationships that might seem out of the ordinary to some of us. Perhaps they include aspects of a mere touch of kink – like spanking and the occasional use of sex toys, or maybe you and your partner or two have delved deeper, succumbing to what some call darker desires. I obviously write highly erotic pieces including same sex, heterosexual, ménage, public display, voyeurism and BDSM and I enjoy bringing these alternative concepts to my readers. Talking about some forms of kink is still a bit hush hush and when you can hide behind a computer or kindle screen, you’re allowed to indulge in your own private fantasies.

For many avid participants and lifestylers in the BDSM world, sometimes what they read as far as BDSM pieces written by writers who may or may not practice, gives them pause. We’ve all read stories, which seem to indicate nestled within pages are aspects of BDSM, when in truth it’s more about an occasional spanking – that’s not BDSM. I’ve had several of my pieces critiqued in certain ways but what I’ve learned from reading, talking to people involved in certain methodologies and those who train others in the D/s lifestyle, there are also flavors within the realm. For many readers they only want something a bit kinky, not the full-blown scene, but you have to respect the audience in which you’re writing for. You have to be careful what you write about and certainly try and learn about the scenario before you pen it.

Blurb:

Victoria Miller is a professor at one of the most prestigious schools in the country. She’s also the creator of several adult blogs about spanking and BDSM.  Craving a man that can understand her kinky needs, she settles for enjoying her passion through her writings, but she admires one hot college student, Drake Myers. The God like blond fuels her every night fantasies, but he is completely untouchable. Or so she believes.

Stumbling upon her blogs by accident, Drake decides to turn up the heat between them. He adores the voluptuous red-headed vixen and enlists the help of a college buddy, developing a kinky plan to have her take a tumble with him in bed and perhaps more. As he begins sending her secret poems, indulging in her need to be dominated, he is unable to resist her and one day they enter into a wicked tryst smack in the middle of her office. The game still yet to be played out, he threatens to expose her secret. And just as he decides to stop his nefarious rouse, she turns the tables.

——————————————————————

Victoria is interrupted by one of her students as she is working on one of her blogs and holding a book on spanking and discipline. Drake sees the book and talks with some of his fraternity brothers about a card game to give the professor her fantasy.

I liked the card game the author created in Spankdown. The only caution would be to make sure the sub involved would be able to handle all the spanks by the various implements that were used. I might like to play such a game with a few modifications of the rules tailored for me.
