The Crimson Rope is an anthology filled with short stories of the BDSM variety so the best way to handle the reviews is to break it down by author.

The Exhibition by London Saint James

This extremely short story is about two friends finding what they need in each other. Slater and Bianca have loved each other from afar for quite some time but it takes one night of passion to bring the two together. Slater the all consuming artist has as air of dominance while Bianca appears to be merely intrigued by what he is into. Will the two be able to find their way in their new relationship?

Well unfortunately that question is not answered in this rather underdeveloped story by London Saint James. It is honestly quite sad when an author provides more information in a short paragraph about a character smoking a cigarette than when describing a BDSM scene. Though this story had a great deal of potential it was not developed at all. This story receives a one out of five paddles.

Amazing Maisie by Raven McAllen

Maisie found out the hard way that the man she wants more than anything wants a whole lot more from her. Rob is a Dom through to his very core and definitely not something Maisie expected. But after an amazing night with him she is willing to give it a try to be his perfect little submissive. Unfortunately for Maisie Rob had to go out of town right after that perfect night. So what’s a Dom to do? Email of course keeping her on her very edge and learning the whole time. What happens when Rob comes home? Well you need to read to find out.

Even though this is a short story and a better back story would have been nice this story speaks to the learning submissive’s heart. Though the scenes are a little closer to vanilla the emails and other communications make up for it. Raven McAllen’s short story was absolutely wonderful and is awarded four out of five paddles for this short story.

Liberating Lua by Elyzabeth M. VaLey

A simple story of a wife wanting nothing more to please her husband’s every desire. The setting is during a time frame to where the Lord of the castle could do as he pleased and in this case had a mistress who was all too willing to encourage the Lord’s beautiful wife Lua to take her place.  Can Lua handle her beloved husband’s desires?

In all honesty this short story came across as an exercise in the use of synonyms when it comes to terms for the anatomy of the human body. The scene, though fairly well written, came across more as a bedroom game than that of BDSM. The story suffered from a real disconnects and felt as if the author did not connect with her characters. This story receives two out of five paddles.

Taboo by Doris O’Connor

What a girl wouldn’t do to get the attention of the man she truly desires and in this case Lucy finally obtains what she has always wanted…a Dom. Josh is much older than Lucy but no one turns him on like his little impish angel does. Unfortunately due to his age and his perception of Lucy prevents him from finding pleasure, joy, and happiness in the BDSM world until one night he finds his precious Lucy in the very club that he frequents. Now that Josh knows little Lucy’s secret the question becomes how will he handle it?

Once again there is not enough of a back story to set the stage for why Lucy desires being a submissive. Unfortunately much of that information comes way too late in the story which messes with the story’s effectiveness. Kudos on the singular scene of BDSM. It was well written. Had the author taken the time to turn this short story into at least a novella the storyline would have been much more developed. This short story receives three out of five paddles.

Lock, Stock, and Spank Her by R. Brennan

Beth found herself at a munch with a friend of hers who happens to be a Mistress in search of her own Dom. Alexander a Dom just returning to the BDSM set after the devastating loss of his submissive three years prior. Little did they both know that they would find what they were looking for at that munch. Will Beth find the Dom who is right for her? And will Alexander find himself the right submissive to help him heal?

This is a very sweet story and has the makings of an excellent novella instead of a short story. The scenes are well thought out and well written. It seems that the focus was supposed to be Beth but instead it became about Beth and Alexander. That sort of devotion to understanding the needs of the characters is rare in such a short story. This story receives four out of five paddles.

The Cowboy and the Schoolmarm by Nikki Prince

Melanie a young girl who married for all the wrong reasons and to a man who only wanted to possess her because of who she was in love with. Shiloh a young man who needed to go out into the world to make sure he could handle living in that small town with his loving Melanie. Now they are both all grown up and Melanie a widow. Will the sparks fly once again?

Such a sweet story that could have been developed into a much more in depth story. With that said what bit of story that is told here is simply wonderful including the very small amount of BDSM that was incorporated into it. The one and only scene was well written and definitely captures the attention of the reader. So this story receives a four out of five paddles.

Through The Dom’s Lens by Doris O’Connor is the story of one born submissive’s journey to find her own happiness. Sally finds herself tricked by her sister into taking a photo shoot with the incredibly talented Master J. Through his eyes and his lens Sally finds much more than she bargains for including a true understanding of her need to submit.

Sorry for the brief introduction to this beautiful short story but if more information was given it would give away way to much information. Doris O’Connor is one of very few authors as of late that has managed to stun this reviewer. To be able to capture the true beauty of a submissive’s heart is very difficult to do to begin with but to add in a Master who actually understood how to handle such a true gift is absolutely amazing. The BDSM scenes are simply stunning and well done described for how a blooming Dom/submissive relationship should be. Safe, Sane, and Consensual are reinforced throughout this whole story. This story touched this reviewer’s heart and I know that it will touch yours as well. This story receives five out five paddles and if a higher rating could be received this story would have achieved that rating. Enjoy the story and thank you Doris for sharing such a stunning and beautiful story with us.

Nikita Ashton and Raoul Saint Germain have been friends for five years, so when Nikita is attacked, there is only one place she can run to—straight into Raoul’s arms.

Raoul is the Alpha of his pack and he is furious that the woman he loves has been harmed on his territory. Were it not for the fact that Nikita does not believe in anything even remotely paranormal, his wolf would have claimed her years ago.

Nikita is in need of tender, loving care, not his baser needs that are threatening to overtake him. However, when Nikita admits that she knows about his being in the lifestyle, the Dom in him cannot resist the challenge to make her his submissive.

Blissfully happy in their new Dom/sub relationship, everything changes when Nikita is kidnapped. Can Raoul get to her in time to save her life?

This starts out with a whopper! What’s a Dom to do when the love of his life shows up on his doorstep bloody and hurting? Bring her in of course! Raoul takes care of Nikita all the while ignoring, okay, trying to ignore what he wants/needs. Poor Nikita, she’s been attacked, attacked by something that scares the crap out of her and she’s not sure what she really saw. Off to Raoul she goes, the only man that she can trust.

Ah, but her glasses broke when she was attacked, otherwise she’d of noticed that Raoul isn’t quite as he seems. The best friend she’s had and now she’s realizing she has more than just ‘friends’ feelings for him. Too bad she can’t see him very well, then she’d be able to see that he’s something more than human!

They quickly fall into a comfortable D/s relationship. This was very easy to understand as they’d been friends for a long time. It’s nice when friendship ends up that way! Only to have it ripped away when she’s kidnapped by a hybrid wolf/vampire. Things get a bit murky and difficult to follow during this phase, but it was worth it to see how Nikita handled herself towards the end. Gotta love it when the Alpha’s mate goes all Alpha on the bad guy!

A good paranormal/BDSM read. Not a whole lot of BDSM, slight spanking and sex. Wish that this would have been longer, it would have been even better if it was a longer, full-length read instead of a short novel.

The Billionaire’s Unwanted Virgin by Doris O’Connor billionaire

Story Rating: 4 out of 5 paddles

Sting Factor (kink): 3 out of 5

This was a much better book than the title indicates. More of a novella than a full length novel, the characters are well drawn, the suspense continuous, and the sex hot.

Alice Wunderland works hard to try and pay off her niece’s medical bills but keeps falling further behind. She finally gives in to her friend’s suggestion to sell her virginity to the highest bidder.  Winning bidder Lakota Kemnay finds her a total surprise and her spirit and passion open his cold heart. But there are forces that don’t want their arrangement to succeed. Can the two of them actually find a way to develop a long lasting relationship?

Alice was a virgin, but not naive, and I liked her spunk and attitude. Lakota is a hunky alpha male, but one who is sensitive to his woman’s happiness. There is some light BDSM, including bondage, spanking, anal play and wax play. Be aware, the author is English and some of the terms are not familiar to American audiences.

Overall, I’d give the book four paddles for story and three paddles for kink.

Mr. Satisfaction Guaranteed by Doris O’Connor

Story Rating: 4.5 out of 5 paddles

Sting Factor (kink): 4 out of 5

This is a short story (fewer than 25 pages) that still manages to pack a round of hot sex and a surprise ending into a small amount of space.

Anna is totally dissatisfied with her sex life, so she takes a friend up on her recommendation to contact Mr. Satisfaction Guaranteed and the results are spectacular. Nathanial is able to bring out her deeply buried submissive side and provide a totally satisfying sexual experience. But is there more?

The story was well written with few errors, the BDSM mild but present, and overall this was excellent for a short story.

Masks of a Tiger by Doris O’Connor

Neeve doesn’t understand why any normal person would choose to wear a collar like a common house pet. So, the collaring ceremony of her best friend’s sister-in-law is the last place she wants to be, even if the hot men watching her send her insides aflame.

Never one for missing the opportunity to teach a bratty sub manners, Grisha intends to show the fiery little redhead the error of her ways. He doesn’t expect to see her drawn to the flame like the proverbial moth. When she hurts herself in ways that even a Dom of his experience finds hard to witness, he knows he needs to help her.

Will their sexual chemistry be enough to chase away their demons and burn away their masks? Or is the submission Grisha demands too much for Neeve to accept?

“Masks of a Tiger” by Doris O’Connor is the third book in the club Ink series.  After reading the synopsis I wondered if this would be a typical bratty sub until the “right”Dom comes along that changes everything for the sub.  Once I read the story I realized that this was not that type of story.  I enjoyed the challenge that Neeve presented to Grisha and Grisha’s attitude toward Neeve.

This story shows you is that not all aspects of the lifestyle will be for everyone and you should not judge them.  I loved that Neeve spoke her mind about her feelings.

The sex in the book was hot. The author did a great job balancing the sex and story line. Overall, at 75 pages this is a great afternoon read.  I could not put this book down once I started.  I have not read the rest of the books in the series but after reading this I can wait to start!
