Charlie Yates is desperate. It’s almost Christmas and his flight home from college has been delayed. For days. Charlie promised his little sister Ava he’d be home for her first holiday season since going into remission from leukemia. Now he’s stuck on the opposite coast and someone else grabbed the last rental car. Someone he hasn’t even spoken to in four years. Someone who broke his heart.

Gavin Bloomberg’s childhood friendship with Charlie ended overnight after a day of stolen kisses. With years of resentment between them, they don’t want to be in the same room together, let alone a car. But for Ava’s sake, Gavin agrees to share the rental and drive across the country together.

As they face unexpected bumps along the road, can Charlie and Gavin pave the way to a future together?

Review:

This is a wonderful holiday m/m Christmas love story. Both characters are incredibly likeable and have very distinct voices. I found myself rooting for Charlie and Gavin to get together. And boy do they! The sex is way hot and once they start fucking I found myself hoping they would end up with a HEA. They are such a great couple. If you like m/m or are looking to dip your toes into the m/m genre I highly recommend this.

For her birthday, Beth Jones was given a Newbie Package from the local BDSM club, The Iron Bar. Her so-called friends had spotted her submissive side and decided it was time she quit hiding it. But when the night comes that she finally gets to play her first scene, she is no longer sure who she is. Is she the sweet submissive in the borrowed Jimmy Choo shoes? Or is she the Goth chick with the black eyeliner and spiked hair?

No one could pin down Master Chris’s taste in submissives. He liked them in all shapes and sizes, but his favorite subs were newbies. The Iron Bar trusted him to introduce the Lifestyle to newcomers and he loved the chance to do it. No commitment necessary. But the newbie he knows as “Miss Jones” gets under his skin. When a crisis causes an interruption, Chris has to track down the elusive Miss Jones with only a Jimmy Choo shoe to guide him.

Review:

This is a relatively quick read that has a Cinderella vibe to it. One thing that stuck out to me was the “voice” of the main character, Beth. Smart and funny, I found myself really liking her and hoping she gets the happily ever after she deserves. If you are looking for something with BDSM and a lighter tone to it, then this is for you.

Review:

Love comes in the most unlikely ways, even when we think we can never have it. How often do we deny what we really feel and get in the way of our own happiness? This is an engaging story that explores how our heart can rules our choices, if we could just open up and trust.

Victoria Rodgers likes her job, numbers make sense, they are safe, distracting. Even though she feels like no one really cares for her, she cares. She cares about the company she works for and the people it employs. When ConFed starts the take-over process she facilitates the process knowing they will save the company and save jobs.

Her new boss is Atticus Paulus. She calls him Finch, after Aticus Finch from “To Kill A Mockingbird” and he is driving her nuts. She can’t stop thinking about him; all of him, each piece of him that she wants to fulfill all her darkest fantasies with.

The kink here is not an overwhelming part of the story, but it really works well. I did enjoy the kink scenes and thought they were very well done. This is an enjoyable read that I enjoyed very much.

CHRISTMAS AT ARUNDALE HALL

The Christmas holiday is near at hand and Chantal D’Insigny is forced to flee her home in France and seek protection from the man she rejected only a fortnight before. To hide her secret, Chantal sent Jaimison away, convinced that if she kept him as she wished, the truth would be revealed and put her and those she loved in danger. But forgiveness was not hers for the asking and she must face her deadly foe alone.

Edward Jaimson was Chantal’s slave, his desire to submit to her as strong as his need to love her. Her dismissal hurt and he cannot bow to her again without risking his heart. Though she is a powerful witch, he is convinced she needs him almost as much as he needs her. Desire is not enough as they face an enemy who uses the innocent and corrupts the weak. The Arundale family draws together to fight one of their own. To save Chantal, Jaimison may have to let her go even if that means she may die to defend those she loves.

EXCERPT

Edward strode across the room, trapping Chantal against the ledge under the window. “Why did you not tell me? I thought—” He clamped his lips shut and started to back away from her.

She gripped his arm. “I was a coward.”

He glared at her. “You? A coward?” He shook his head. “No. Lack of trust is not cowardice.”

Intently, she searched his face. Would he understand? “I was afraid to trust you.”

“You’re splitting hairs,” Jaimison said bitterly. “You have no reason to blame yourself, madam. You promised me nothing. Nothing is what I received.”

He froze when she moved closer, her hip brushing his, her breast pressing against his arm. “Not even memories? Do you dream of me, Edward? Do you stroke yourself and think of me?”

His nostrils flared and she felt his muscles clench. “What do you want?” He said the words in a harsh tone, and Chantal sensed he wanted to tear her apart with his bare hands.

“I want to stop being afraid.” She held his hostile stare. “I want you.” She couldn’t put it any more clearly than that.

“If you want a pet that will take any kind of abuse and beg for more, you would be better off with a dog,” he snapped.

“I like it when you beg,” she said, and slid her hand over his biceps. “When you left, I thought I would forget you, make myself be without you. But every day only made me long for you more.”

He wrapped his fingers around her wrist and stopped her touch. “I’m afraid my services are no longer available.”

Temptation To Submit JL_TemptationToSubmit_coverin

In the midst of a hostile takeover, Tori Rodgers’s private life goes crazy and the skeletons from her closet are rattling.  It doesn’t help that she keeps trading insults with the CFO of the company that’s raided hers.  But Vegas brings out her insanity and she finds herself at Atticus Paulus’s mercy.   His offer of Dominance brings her to the brink of total surrender and she knows he’ll never forgive her when he finds out she’s been lying to him.

EXCERPT:

Where is Nell?” Tori Rodgers put every ounce of force into her voice. She kept her words short since she’d had a few drinks and was proud of the fact that she didn’t sway as she defied the man in front of her.

Atticus Paulus. Accountant. Acquisitions officer of ConFed. Bastard. His smooth dark skin was impervious to blushes, and he never looked disconcerted or uncomfortable. His long, capable fingers placed his drink back on the table. Damn it. She never should have suggested this place.

This mandatory conference had been difficult enough, but then she had to add a leather bar on their list of Las Vegas hot spots. Apparently, every damned executive with the company that demanded her attendance had it on their list too. All week she’d sat in boring policy meetings and ignored the fact that Atticus Paulus made her imagination go into overdrive. It was probably the fantasies she’d had about him that had driven her here. Yep. She was an idiot.

She’d gone to the bathroom, and when she came out, both of her friends, Nell and Gina, were gone. Positive that the ConFed officers knew where her friends had disappeared to, she confronted them but from a weak position. She was drunk and in a crowd. Too many people looked at her as she faced off with two men she was sure were sexual dominants. Two men who were senior officers in the company, who had become her new bosses and now owned her ass.

If Tori hadn’t been drunk, she would have been able to handle this better, but she’d overindulged, the stress of the last six months taking its toll. Being in close proximity of Atticus Paulus would drive her yoga teacher, who was fifty if she was a day and the most Zen person Tori knew, to murder.

“Nell is in good hands, Ms. Rodgers.” Atticus spoke softly, his East Indian accent barely noticeable, which only lent his voice an exotic flavor for Tori’s ears.

His hands would be good. Tori licked her lips and stared at those long fingers tracing the rim of his glass. She had to be drunk if she started obsessing about his hands like she obsessed about every other part of the man. But then, who wouldn’t? He was a lean, powerful male with steel in his personality. Yet he had a talent for using gentle persuasion until he was pushed too far. Then he took the gloves off, and the Dominant she had sensed beneath that gorgeous exterior would come out. Everyone knew it was pointless to argue with him or defy him. He would deftly eviscerate anyone who did.

And the only ConFed officer more annoying than him was Dimitri Caruso, whom Tori privately nicknamed the Italian Stallion. Both men were handsome, smart, and exuded sexual power. Whatever perverse God had created them also made her unable to back down from Atticus.

“And by good hands, you mean yours,” she snapped, her words more slurred than she would have liked.

“I’ll take that as a compliment,” Atticus shot back. He rubbed a hand over his face. “She’ll be fine, Victoria.”

She stepped closer to him to make sure he saw her glare. “My name is Tori, not Victoria.”

“You are buying more trouble than you can afford, caro,” Dimitri said softly.

“I’m not buying anything you two are selling.” Well, if she was going to burn bridges, she might as well go all the way. “You come into my company with your hardline business savvy and your soft-porn voices, expecting us all to fall in step with the new world order.” She took a deep breath and sneered at both of them. “Never going to happen. Now where are my friends?”

When Atticus’s eyes narrowed, it registered that he was as angry as she was drunk. “You’ll have to trust us.”

“That’s hilarious, Finch.”

Dimitri snorted at Tori’s nickname for Atticus. Early in negotiations with the new company, Tori’s response to Atticus’s stolid professionalism was to name him after the only other Atticus she knew: Atticus Finch from To Kill a Mockingbird. Who the hell named their kid “Atticus”?

“I wasn’t being humorous, Victoria,” he said sternly. “It’s time for you to go before you make a fool of yourself.”

“If I want to make a fool of myself, Finch, it won’t be with you.”

“How about with me?” Dimitri asked with a grin.

She focused her glare on the Italian Stallion. “No dice. I have a car coming. We have a room–”

“Gina took the car.”

“What?” Tori shook her head, and dizziness swamped her. She and Gina had always depended on Nell to keep a lid on their craziness. Now, Gina and Nell were in deep shit.

The lights from the bar hurt her eyes, and Tori struggled to clear her head.

“How drunk is she?” Dimitri asked, and Tori glared at him.

“Not that drunk, asshole.” She clenched her fists and looked around the bar, thinking she could cry out for help. Both Nell and Gina were missing, so Tori was the last one standing. That might not last long, but she was going to go down swinging.

“Come with us, soniye.” Atticus stood side by side with Dimitri.

Where did he get the idea he could call her…whatever he’d just called her?

“I want Nell back here now,” she demanded. “She’s drunk, and I’m not going to have her wake up with regrets.”

Dimitri narrowed his dark eyes. “What exactly do you mean by that?”

“I mean that she deserves better than to get fucked when she’s drunk,” she said baldly.

“We wouldn’t let anything happen to her, and you know it,” Atticus said in a low, dangerous tone. “You’d better come with us. We’ll drive you to your hotel.”

Oh, hell no. “I am not going anywhere until you tell me where Nell and Gina are.” She braced her feet and clenched her fists.

Dimitri sighed. “They are being taken care of, caro. Now come–”

“You bastard,” Tori snapped, but she spoke to Atticus. It was his fault. It wouldn’t make sense to anyone else, but it did to her. He’d arranged this. Him with that fucking section of the employee agreement. “If you try and hold either of them to that ridiculous declaration section, I’ll have every lawyer in Los Angeles on your ass so fast your head will spin right off your shoulders.”

Shit. She shouldn’t have even mentioned that weird section of their new employee agreement. Nell said it didn’t have any legal basis, but Tori couldn’t take that risk. That section read word for word like one of her fantasies.

“Ridiculous?” Dimitri raised one eyebrow and smiled. “Nell didn’t think it was ridiculous. She was curious. Aren’t you curious?”

When you first started writing, did you have any idea you’d be writing BDSM/kinky books? Do you write in any other genre?

I didn’t!  Not at all. I began writing romantic suspense and got a few ebook published.  After joining Romance Divas, a forum for romance writers, and became interested in a discussion about male submissives.  Now, as a closet submissive, (meaning it was a very private thing between my husband and I) I was interested.  My view of male submissives had been limited and not positive.  I couldn’t see how an erotic romance could feature a male submissive as a hero.  In that discussion, another author suggested Joey W. Hill’s “Natural Law” which is one of the best erotic romances (with a suspense plot) that I have EVER read.  From that book, I never looked back and read several erotic romance authors and the ones I loved the most featured BDSM relationships especially the D/s dynamic.  Though I’ve written Erotic Science Fiction, Erotic Historical Paranormal and Contemporary romance, they’ve all featured a BDSM element.  I love reading and writing the genre.

Plus, I get to do the BEST research. Dark Past

Was there something that happened to you in your life or career that made you want to begin thinking about writing BDSM/kinky-themed erotica?

Welllll, this might be oversharing but….what the heck.  I was raised pretty sheltered and in my family, we didn’t talk about sex or intimacy.  The idea of discussing my urges as a teenager was laughable.  As a result, in my first marriage, I had no idea how to communicate my needs or take care of myself.  That relationship suffered immensely because of my ignorance.  I didn’t learn how to masturbate until I was already married and I learned THAT from a show on HBO called “Real Sex”.  I noticed, as I read romances, that it just wasn’t enough.  I wanted more, something intense and intimate that was missing in the books I was reading.  When I read Joey W. Hill, Crystal Jordan, Kate Pearce and so many others, I realized what I was missing.

I can’t “practice” the Lifestyle since current husband keeps our kink in the bedroom.  We’re very monogamous and find all we need with each other (though I’m kinkier than he is.  LOL!)

Writing BDSM scenes for characters who DO practice the Lifestyle is a lot of fun and gives me a lot of satisfaction. I love to read kinky romances, so I write what I love. I’ve discovered a lot about myself through this process and I hope readers enjoy the results of that journey.

Plus, well, the RESEARCH!  LOL!

Is there one area of BDSM that you tend to write about more? Why do you think that area creeps into your writing more than some others?

I find my characters aren’t “me”, but they have the same issues.  Sometimes, it feels like we’re all in a 12 step meeting in my head-all vastly different, but struggling with the same demons.  Many of my characters have difficulty accepting who they are.  Acceptance is a big theme in my stories and I have dealt with it all my life.  To me, there is nothing more destructive in a relationship than lack of compassion, empathy and acceptance.  Often, my characters fight to believe in themselves, believe in their partners, or have hope.  In my latest release “Dark Past”, Julianna struggles to accept herself since she’s been living a lie for years to save her people.  Bud Masterson struggles to accept her as she is, different from the woman he’d loved as a boy and a determined person who won’t walk away from the fight she’d begun.  Their love for each other is never the question.  Whether they can accept themselves is the deal breaker.  I think many of us, especially the kinkier people, deal with a lack of acceptance.  I’ve always believed that love is easy.  It’s the day to day working stuff that gets difficult.  Seeing things from the other person’s point of view, meeting the needs of your partner without losing yourself, accepting the other person as they change and grow are all what can keep a relationship strong and healthy, whether it’s kinky or not.

Is there an area that is BDSM/kink-related that you haven’t written about yet that you’re interested in?

I did a scene in “Dark Past” that had branding which I am fascinated by.  I love the idea of having a permanent mark that denotes ownership.  I’ve seen one.  It was pretty amazing.  I’ve always wondered about the pain level, which has to be crazy.  I haven’t had a chance to talk to anyone who has had it done and that’s my next step.  I think it’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen and I hope my scene reflects that.

What is your favorite fetish? Why?

Restraints.  Some of my favorite pictures are Shobari rope restraints.  I like all forms of restraints-cuffs, rope, chains-it’s all a turn-on.  Also, in the same vein, corsets.  Being bound in and untied is arousing.  I haven’t written a corset yet, but I probably will if I have a character that’s obsessed with them.

When you’re writing BDSM/kinky-related erotica, is there a particular movie or music that you might watch or listen to that helps you get in that frame of mind?

Every book has its own “flavor” as far as music goes.  And I can still say I’m working while I’m really on YouTube looking for the right songs.  LOL!  But seriously, I have a few groups that have always come through for me with music.  “Stream Of Passion” is a European group that doesn’t get a lot of air time in the U.S.  I absolutely love their music.  One of my favorite songs I used for more than one story was “When You Hurt Me The Most”, a song that lent itself to several of my characters.  I’ve also used Evanescence, Digital Summer, Bullet For My Valentine and for my upcoming release “Declaration To Submit” (I just contracted this short story) I used Jennifer Lopez surprisingly.  Many artists skirt the edges of the darker side of love like Imagine Dragon’s “Demons” that I’m using for “Brother of Arundale Hall”, the book I’m working on now.  One thing you’ll see on my Facebook and Tumblr is videos by my favorite artists.  I love to find inspirational music.

And movies?  I think my favorite movie that got me in the mood for “Declaration To Submit” was “Secretary” starring James Spader.  Oh. My. God.  That movie is the most sexiest, twisted romantic movie that I’ve seen.  I love it.  For my 19th Century werewolves, I watch period pieces like “Pride and Prejudice” (with Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth of course) and “Persuasion” (with Amanda Root.).  My science fiction is inspired by movies like “Star Trek”, “Chronicles of Riddick”, “Serenity” and “Dune” (with James McAvoy)

What is your favorite BDSM/kinky website that you have shopped at online?

http://thebdsmshop.com/  It has a fabulous way to search for stuff and I think the prices are competitive.  But I try and buy all my gear from my local shop “Good Relations”  (http://www.goodrelations.com/)

Who is your favorite BDSM/kinky author?

Hands down it’s Joey W. Hill.  I started with “Natural Law” and I’ve devoured all her books.  She’s not only one of the best reads, but she’s also a very nice fellow author and I’ve had the privilege of being contact with her for workshops at Romance Divas.

That said, my genre is FILLED with awesome authors—Cherise Sinclair, Belinda McBride, Kate Pearce and Sidney Bristol to only name a few.  Of all my favorite authors though, Morgan Hawke is one of the few who incorporates some BDSM aspects into her Science Fiction.

Of course, I’m always open to new to me authors.  Especially authors who write BDSM in their science fiction.  I love reading BDSM erotic romance as much as I love writing it.

Story rating: 5 out of 5 paddles

Sting factor (kink): 4.5 out of 5

When I was sent Jennifer Leeland’s Dark Revenge, I was warned that it was not so much a BDSM novel but a novel with BDSM elements.  After reading the ebook, I can only assume that the phrase “novel with BDSM elements” is code for a full fledged story with hot BDSM  Because that is what Ms. Leeland has delivered.

This book is a wide, sweeping science fiction story of love, war, insidious plots, and trust.  The Teran worlds were settled by refugees from Earth as it was laid to waste by a plague.  Alex and Tory are natives of Teran One, a planet were your family line is the most important thing about you.  The farther back in history your line can trace its past, the more powerful your line is, politically.  Alex is one of the two surviving daughters of her line.  Tory is an outcast, the last of his line who betrayed Teran One years ago.  Both had loved each other without acknowledging it.  Fate will throw them back together as a great evil threatens all the Teran worlds.

Dark Revenge is well written with superb technical competence.  Not only is it free of any glaring errors that distract you from the story, the writing paints vivid word pictures that allow your imagination to create the most wonderful images in your brain.  The story itself is rich and engaging.  Background information is seamlessly woven into the story without the usual feelings of tired exposition.  The reader quickly finds they care about the characters.  This is a rich story, with many twists and turns in the plot.  Science fiction fans will appreciate the inclusion of many of our favorite elements of the genre (telepathy, space travel, energy weapons, seeing how change affects society).

The sex in the story is more than good.  Tory likes his women restrained and his sex rough.  It’s not long before Alex discovers that she likes being that restrained, roughly sexed woman.  This is not a novel with sex scenes in each chapter, but one in which the sex is an integral part of the plot.  The sex is BDSM all the way.  Fans of this genre will recognize many of the usual elements, albeit with a sci-fi twist.  It’s as vividly described as the rest of the story, and very hot.  Only the die hard stroke seeker will be disappointed by the lower than normal sexual content.

I give Dark Revenge 5 out of 5 for the story and 4.5 out of 5 for the sting (averaging 4 for those wanting more quantity, and 5 for those who appreciate the quality).  This story is well worth your time and money.
