Johnny Stone is a throwback uncivilized cowboy from the proud Republic of Texas. In this alternate world where Steampunk replaces electronic technology, Johnny is a broken bounty hunter with nothing to lose. His latest assignment sounds more like a suicide mission which he hasn’t thought out clearly. Ill prepared, he’s constantly humiliated by others on the ship he’s taking to his destination. The only redeeming light is his encounter with the ship’s captain.

Captain Rainia Morwin lusts after Johnny to her detriment. A Femdom by culture and upbringing, she’s a switch searching for a strong male dominant. She clings onto Johnny for some unfathomable reason. I found very little in character of Johnny to be likeable or redeeming. He doesn’t turn me on and the way he participated in the downfall of Rainia makes me like him even less.

What didn’t work for me in this story was how far and quickly Rainia fell from her position of authority. I didn’t find it believable nor did I find it pleasurable. It confused me and actually caused me to find her disappointing and I was a bit disgusted with her. Johnny was a character who came across as a lucky SOB without any redeeming qualities. Sure he can get his dick up and screw the brains out of Rainia, but other than that, I do not understand his allure. He’s unable to plan and think ahead. Nor is he able to predict the consequences of his actions. People like this are on my list to avoid. The character development in this story just didn’t do it for me.
