When you first started writing, did you have any idea you’d be writing BDSM/kinky books? Do you write in any other genre?
I began writing more romance style stories that were pretty erotic, and these evolved into historical romances with heavy doses of BDSM. Before I engaged in BDSM, the relationships in my writing were vanilla. As I evolved into D/s relationships my romance couples did as well. This made my BDSM M/f slanted instead of F/f because M/f is much more mainstreamed throughout history.
I think it would be much harder to write a historical romance that involved a BDSM relationship between two women. Not because there weren’t women couples, but because they couldn’t go out and about in society in years past and relate to the world as an open lesbian couple. One book has spanking as a punishment and it more represents how many husbands chastised or treated their wives throughout history than it does BDSM, and that couldn’t be written as a F/f relationship.
My other historical romance has BDSM. I refer to it as a kinky historical romance. I am a huge history buff and somewhat of a geek, so historical romances satisfy that side of me. I have written some paranormal suspense as well and have a paranormal erotic historical romance in the works now.
My BDSM books are collections of short stories. They are made from stories I have written for my submissives over time as little rewards or gifts, or derived from dare I admit it, fan fiction I once wrote.
Are you actively involved in BDSM? If so how do you identify yourself? Dom(me)/sub? Top/bottom? Switch?
I have been in BDSM relationships for over 10 years, am very involved in the kink community and live a D/s lifestyle. I identify as a dominant lesbian/ Mistress. I married and collared my wife a year and a half ago. We are monogamous and live a domestic discipline lifestyle. My wife is a stay at home housewife who cares for our home and for me. We purchased a home last February and now have the proverbial house with a white picket fence and a dungeon in the basement. Our power exchange relationship is that she cares for me and I care for us.
I also have several male service submissives who do household chores and yard work. One fixes things inside and is a handyman type, one cares for the outside landscaping, and one does chores that are too difficult for my wife and cooks the occasional meal. My relationship with my service subs is completely non sexual. Their reward comes from their sincere desire to serve, and from getting to serve at the occasional CFNM (clothed female, nude male) or play party.
I have a play partner who fulfills my very sadistic side. We engage in heavy impact play. He is a hard core masochist. Our play is completely non sexual. My wife and I do more sensual and sexual play. She enjoys floggings and light impact only, so there is a big difference in my play styles with each of them.
Is there one area of BDSM that you tend to write about more? Why do you think that area creeps into your writing more than some others?
Much of the play in my books is impact play that is very sexual. It’s what I enjoy most when I engage in BDSM activities, so it’s what I enjoy writing. I am somewhat rope impaired so bondage doesn’t come into play much, and I dislike humiliation. The terms of whore, slut, little bitch are mostly used as endearments. I enjoy having power over my wife’s orgasms so the play is heavily sexual as well. I write what I do. I think that’s pretty natural.
Is there an area that is BDSM/kink-related that you haven’t written about yet that you’re interested in?
One of my guys would really like me to do a collection of F/m stories. I am considering that or possibly a how to guide for CFNM parties. They are widely fantasized about by a lot of guys on Fetlife, and I had great success with the CFNM party my wife and I held, so I will most definitely either write a shot story about the party, or as I said, write a how to guide.
What have you written in the past that you think your BDSM/kink fans might find interesting?
I have a collection of M/f BDSM stories called “Sweet Agony”. I also have a short story called “Dining In” that is a very mild BDSM story that I published on its own to target erotica readers who might not be into heavy kink. Both are on Amazon as well as two kinky historical romances. “Lessons of Love” is more domestic discipline. “Elizabeth’s Destiny” is a historical romance with heavy BDSM scenes.
What is your favorite fetish? Why?
Most of my play involves impact. I’m a medium level sadist so that’s what gets me heated up. I also really enjoy giving anal because of the level of submission involved. It’s a great power exchange. If I am bottoming, I love electrical play. Violet wands are my new favorite toy for topping or bottoming. It’d hard to pick a favorite fetish. Why limit myself?
At this point in your career, do you think you’ll write more BDSM/kinky erotica?
Absolutely. I am compiling and editing my collection of F/f BDSM erotica right now and have been thinking on the best approach for a F/m book. My muse is always whispering ideas for kinky books into my ear so I don’t see my stopping anytime in the future. The amount of fetishes that potential readers have is huge, so my well of kinky ideas should never run dry.
What’s the most surprising piece of feedback you’ve ever received from a fan of your writing?
I was a bit taken aback the first time someone told me they masturbated to my stories. People had told me that they needed a cold shower or things like that, but when she came right out and told me how she had to touch herself it was a bit surprising. Now I’m pretty used to people telling me they need to get their Hitachi or some such thing. I joke and say I’ve made hundreds of people orgasm. It’s honestly a heavy dose of power for the dominant in me.
Do you attend BDSM, kink, or fetish conferences? Or do you attend any other “vanilla” type of conferences? Attending any in the near future you want to mention?
My wife and I love the big events. We’ve been to Kinky Kollege in Chicago a couple of times, Madtown Kinkfest quite a bit, and would really like to do a road trip out to Denver for Thunder in the Mountains. The last time we went to Kinky Kollege they had well known BDSM authors as the main theme. My wife was so excited, she got to meet Janet Hardy. It was a great time. Being surrounded by kinky people for a whole weekend is a great feeling.
Sometimes my work schedule is hard to work with when trying to get to events. I have to be conscious of what kind of security they have as well, in order to keep my activities a secret because of my job. As for a regular or vanilla convention, I haven’t been to anything that wasn’t work related.
