Why Did I Write a Millionaire and BDSM Into Stately Pleasures by Lucy Felthouse statelypleasures (2)

There are elements to Stately Pleasures that may make some roll their eyes, particularly with the way the erotic romance market is now. It’s got a millionaire and BDSM. Before you tut and sigh, though, this book is nothing like “that book,” nor is it intended to be. In fact, the idea came to me a long time before “that book” because famous.

Jeremy Davenport is a millionaire, yes. But it’s not mentioned explicitly in the book. In fact, his money is hardly mentioned at all, and isn’t part of the storyline, really, other than the fact he owns a stately home, which he inherited. This is not a book about a rich guy splashing his cash. And there are no helicopters involved.

The BDSM element is a major plot point. I can’t say too much because I’ll give the game away, but there is a touch of blackmail in this novel, and it involves domination, submission, spanking, bondage and lots more sexy kinky stuff. Which is ironic, really, considering I used to really dislike reading and writing BDSM. I used to steer well clear. But the more I write about it, the more fun I have exploring different avenues of my characters’ sexualities, sexual preferences and the kinky games they can play together. Now I genuinely enjoy it. I don’t write it into every book or story, but I don’t have a problem with it now and find it can add a whole new dimension to a tale. It all depends on my idea and whether the characters are right for it.

In Stately Pleasures, Alice, Jeremy and Ethan are most definitely right for BDSM and they have a great deal of orgasmic fun with it throughout! I hope you’ll check out the book.

Happy Reading,

Excerpt:

Alice took a deep breath, in through her nose and out through her mouth. Repeated the process once more. Then, realising she could sit there all day doing it and not feel any calmer, she forced herself to step out of the car and close and lock the door.

She bent to peer into the wing mirror of the vehicle and checked her hair and make-up. Satisfied, she straightened, then turned on her heel and walked quickly across the driveway to the great house before her nerve failed her.

Davenport Manor was currently open for visitors, so she walked in through the front door and was met by a smiling elderly lady.

‘Can I help you?’ the woman asked kindly.

‘Yes, please.’ Alice twisted her hands together nervously. ‘I’m here to see Mr Davenport. I’m here for an interview for the property manager’s role.’

‘Yes, of course,’ the woman replied, ‘that’s today, isn’t it? Follow me; I’ll take you to Mr Davenport’s office. But just hang on one second.’

She ducked through the doorway into the next room and spoke with her colleague. Alice guessed she was letting her co-worker know she’d be gone for a few minutes. A few seconds later, she was back. ‘OK, follow me, Miss …’

‘Brown,’ Alice said, then fell in behind the other woman as she led her to Mr Davenport’s office, and the interview that could change her life for ever. It was hardly surprising that she was shaking like a leaf.

Alice quickly felt lost as their journey took several twists and turns along dim corridors – their blinds drawn to protect paintings, tapestries, and furniture from the sunlight – and up a flight of stairs. She had a few seconds to worry about finding her way if she was lucky enough to get the job, then, suddenly, her guide stopped outside a door and turned around.

‘Here you go, Miss Brown. Mr Davenport’s office. Good luck with your interview.’

Alice smiled and thanked the elderly woman, then smoothed down her skirt, which also conveniently helped wipe the nervous sweat off her hands. She stood up straight, gave herself a mental pep talk about being more than qualified for the role, and knocked on the door.

‘Enter.’

Alice knew that voice could only belong to Jeremy Davenport. The posh accent, and the fact he’d said “enter” instead of “come in”, screamed money and an upper-class upbringing. Alice was suddenly nervous of her broad Midlands accent and lowly background, despite the fact she’d worked her backside off to get into a decent university in order to gain a Bachelor of Arts degree and then a Master’s degree. No matter what she sounded like, or what her past was, she had all the skills necessary to do the job she was about to be interviewed for.

Suddenly, she realised that she’d left rather a long pause before opening the door, and she turned the handle before the occupants of the room thought they were about to interview some kind of simpleton who couldn’t follow a simple instruction.

Fixing a polite – but hopefully not inane – smile onto her face, Alice stepped into Jeremy Davenport’s office. Her first thought – which certainly did nothing to help her nerves – was good God, he’s hot.

Jeremy sat behind a desk, with a heavily pregnant woman sitting beside it. Alice barely noticed the woman. All she saw was him. A man with cropped dark brown hair, hazel/green eyes, a jawline you could cut bread with, and lips that looked capable of doing incredibly wicked, sexual things to a woman. Or a man. Alice had no idea what his sexuality was, but she found herself hoping he liked women.

She chastised herself. Even if he did like women, he wouldn’t go for someone like her. A Plain Jane, with mousy brown shoulder-length hair, blue eyes, average height and above average weight. Alice had always known she’d never be a supermodel, so she’d worked extra hard academically, and here she was. About to be interviewed for her dream job.

Review:

Stately Pleasures is the story of Alice Brown, Jeremy Davenport and Ethan Hayes. Alice is hired by Jeremy to fill a maternity leave position as property manager at Davenport Manor, a country estate in rural England. It’s a job that could be the launch pad to a bright career, if all goes well. Unfortunately, Alice is caught loitering outside Jeremy’s office by Ethan (head of security for Davenport Manor) on her very first day. When she is confronted by Jeremy and Ethan, she is offered a choice: she can be fired and all future prospects ruined or she can agree to help the two men complete some “tasks” around the manor. If she agrees and completes the “task”, she is assured a glowing reference and assistance in locating a future position. Alice agrees to their terms, begrudgingly, and decides to make the best of a bad situation. But what starts out as blackmail grows to something far more potent. But will the men share Alice’s feelings and desire for a real relationship? And if they do, will they ever be able to act upon their feelings once her time at Davenport Manor comes to an end?

Stately Pleasures is a full length ménage (MFM) novel of self-discovery and romance. While the impetus to the story is blackmail, make no mistake that, this is a romance. The characters are well described and interesting. While the male characters’ motivations are not initially clear, they become so as the story unfolds. The “tasks” are fun and the locations are inventive. And in true romance fashion, there is a HEA. Readers should be warned that one “task” occurs in a chapel, so anyone put off by sex/kink in religious locals should be aware.

The Sting Factor is high. There is sex in numerous unconventional locations, corporal punishment, bondage, food play, orgasm control, DP and light D/S. All kink scenes are well described and exciting. It is easy for the reader to picture every nuance based upon the descriptions by the author.

Stately Pleasures is light, playful and has a nice HEA that would give anyone a happy feeling once the book is through. It is a great book for a day at the beach or something to read before bedtime.

Review:

The upper echelons of professional tennis generally are occupied by extremely determined and forceful personalities. It is hardly a stretch to imagine some of those individuals gravitating to the dominant side of BDSM. Such is the underlying premise of the recent collaboration of authors Lily Harlem and Lucy Felthouse, Grand Slam.

Despite it delving beneath the surface of D/s play dynamics, at its core this is a romantic tale chronicling the love affair between a sports psychologist and a top tennis player.  Marie has been hired to help Travis regain his focus while he recuperates from a fairly serious automobile accident. Their mutual attraction complicates the purpose of their professional alliance, as does Travis’ determination to awaken Marie’s latent sexual submissiveness.

The entirety of the book is written from a first person point of view, although the person telling the story alternates between Travis and Marie with each chapter. Whether or not this helps or hinders the narrative will depend upon the reader’s sensibilities and preferences. I was not particularly enamored of this convention, but I didn’t hate it either.

Realistically, I am not the target consumer for this book. Romantic stories don’t really appeal to me all that much, nor do I enjoy sharing characters’ inner angst while they wrestle with their hopes and fears as the mating dance unfolds. Looking at these features objectively though, I would say that they are well done, just not to my personal tastes.

For readers interested in this book for its erotic content, that too is a subjective matter. There are ample sex scenes throughout with varying levels of intensity; however, the BDSM elements are not hard core in the least, but definitely sensual and erotic. That aspect of Grand Slam would more likely resonate with outsiders and newbies than those in the lifestyle.

My BDSM Writing Journey by Lucy Felthouse

As part of BDSM Book Reviews two year celebration, I’d like to talk about my BDSM writing journey. lucy1

I’ve been writing for several years now, and have been published since 2009. I started off pretty vanilla, it has to be said. I still pen some vanilla stories, in fact. But to begin with, I barely touched BDSM stories, in terms of writing. I was happy to read them, but I couldn’t seem to get into the right mindset to write something with bondage, domination, sadism (or submission) or masochism.

The more I wrote, though, the more adventurous I and my characters became. I penned threesomes, lesbian trysts, and more. Finally, when I saw a call for submissions for either BDSM or spanking stories, I don’t remember, I decided to give it a go. And so Naughty Delivery was born. It’s a short smutty tale about a couple who order some sex toys, but receive the wrong parcel and decide to go ahead and use what they got anyway, with kinky results.

Next came a call for BDSM and vampires. Inspired by the hotness that is Alexander Skarsgard, otherwise known as Eric Northman, I penned a story about a submissive vampire. The anthology never came to fruition, so the story languished on my hard drive for a while, until I put it into a mini-anthology, Punish Me Good, along a story which made it into Best Bondage Erotica 2012. I’ve since had tales in the 2013 and 2014 version of Best Bondage Erotica, too.

At some point, I decided I obviously had some kind of knack for BDSM tales and have written several more, including several more short stories, a novella, one co-authored novel and one solo novel. So it seems I’ve gone from one extreme to the other—from total vanilla to utter kink—and you know what? I love it. I love the variety, I love the fun you can have with the stories, letting your imagination go completely wild, pleasuring the characters, punishing them, making them feel all kinds of crazy stuff. lucy3

Regardless of genre or sub-genre though, I’m delighted to be writing and to be published and know I’m very lucky. I just hope you all enjoy reading my stuff as much as I enjoy writing it!

Testing Tom – BDSM femdom erotic romance

When Katrina’s ex, Tom, turns up on her doorstep, he’s literally the last person she was expecting to see. After dumping her and running off with a vanilla chick, Tom broke the Domme’s heart and left her seriously hurting. So when he returns, begging for another chance, Katrina is understandably very confused and protective of her bruised feelings. She finds it very difficult to believe that he’s turned his back on a vanilla lifestyle for good and wants to be with her, a professional dominatrix. Rather than letting her head or her heart figure out what to do, whether to forgive him, she decides to put Tom through a series of challenges that will prove his devotion to her—or not. Testing Tom is not something she’d ever expected she’d have to do, but to her, it’s the only way she can be sure whether he’s back for good.

Grand Slam – BDSM erotic romance (co-authored)

California had seduced me with promises of a new life working at Los Carlos Tennis Academy. What I didn’t expect was the dark, brooding number one seed, Travis Connolly, resisting my help. He wasn’t interested in my psychology skills. Instead his attention was drawn to the edgy, sharper corners of my desires, proving that they existed, setting me challenges and driving me crazy to the point of combustion.

I’m the best tennis player in the world—officially—so why would I need a damn woman full of psychobabble to get me on form? Despite my irritation, however, I can’t resist pushing Marie Sherratt’s buttons even though doing that shows her the darkest shades of my lust, the parts of me I buried deep. So I set her a challenge, one she rises to, one that has me rising too, and before long my game relies on her calling the shots, hitting the target and bending to my will. One thing was certain, being not just master of the court, but also of Marie is seriously good for my soul. lucy2

Four kinky and erotic BDSM tales from the smutty pen of Lucy Felthouse.

Balancing the Books

Philip’s a well off man, and doesn’t need a job. But when he sees the gorgeous owner of his local bookshop, he applies for the role that’s being advertised there immediately. He’s totally stricken by the stunning Giovanna, and when it turns out she wants to boss him around in a sexual sense as well as an employment sense, he has no intention of refusing.

Feeling the Heat

Taylor and Maisie’s car has broken down. Luckily, Taylor’s handy with engines and is working hard to get them back on the road. Unfortunately, Maisie is getting annoyed at the amount of time he’s spending in the garage and confronts him. Instead of arguing back, though, Taylor comes up with an ingenious plan to keep Maisie quiet.

The Perfect Dom

Part of Mia’s nightwear is a pair of hotpants with SPANK ME emblazoned across the arse. Normally, that wouldn’t be a problem, but when she forgets that she has a houseguest and heads to the kitchen for a drink, she’s shocked to find Alex in her living room. Immediately spotting what he sees as an invitation written across Mia’s bottom, Alex makes an offer and Mia soon discovers that he is, in fact, the perfect dom.

Meet Me at the Spanish Steps

Darby is working at a holiday camp on the outskirts of Rome and is getting along just fine, with the exception of her sex life. For various reasons, she’s not getting what she wants in the bedroom, and her tastes are very particular. She turns to the Internet to get what she needs, and when she discovers William, it seems that he’s more than willing—and capable—of scratching that particular itch.

Review:

The Perfect Dom by Lucy Felthouse is a collection of four short stories. These stories are interesting in the fact that each one is quite different from the others as far as the scenario goes. In each brief story that she spins for her readers a different aspect of kink or BDSM is explored. For instance the first and second stories seem to explore funishment in two very different ways. Another explores the fun in being spanked by the right Dominant whether they are male or female. It also briefly touches on how a Dominant can make a mistake when they lose control. And finally one of the stories outright admits to being all about the woman’s desire for some kink in her life and finding the right person to help her explore that side of herself.  It is these differences between the four short stories that holds the reader’s attention.

However, the content of these stories seem to be more along the line of kink instead of BDSM. With that said the spell Lucy Felthouse weaves in her writing definitely makes up for the lack of BDSM. For those that are into a quick wham bam thank you Sir/Ma’am then this collection is definitely for you. Once again the stories are filled with lots of kink so enjoy!  Very well written all in all.

Review:

In the books that I have read by erotica author Lucy Felthouse, what stands out to me are her unique stories peopled with characters engaging in a version of BDSM that is probably more representative of the majority of real-life practitioners than what is commonly portrayed in books of that genre. They include some aspects of power exchange and moderate to severe corporal punishment, but nothing too extreme. Her latest novella, Testing Tom, is a case in point.

At its core, this is a HEA femdom love story… but with a twist. Katrina, a self-proclaimed domme, is moping around trying to recover from a break-up with her sub Tom, with whom she is still in love many months later. When the doorbell rings one night she assumes it is a door-to-door canvasser, but peeking out the window she discovers it is her ex. Not in the mood for whatever he has to say to her, she doesn’t answer the door. Surprisingly assertive for a submissive, Tom persists and calls out to her through the door telling her he knows she’s in there because her car is in the driveway, and he can see the television is on through the curtains.

To avoid unwanted attention from nosey neighbors, Katrina lets him in to state his case. It turns out that he wants to patch things up with her. Tom admits to Katrina that he had a sort of identity crisis and tried to revert to a vanilla lifestyle, but to no avail – he finally realized his mistake and how much he loves her. Hurt and angry, but still smitten with her errant lover, Katrina instructs him to return the following night and expect to be tasked to prove his worthiness. The remainder of the story primarily involves the testing Tom endures to regain her trust and let Katrina exact a degree of revenge for the hurt she suffered.

When you read a lot of kinky books in which the principal characters engage in some form of power play or sexual activity relatively soon into the story, it almost seems like something is missing when an author chooses to defer instant gratification in favor of developing that element of the story at a more realistic pace. Fortunately, in this case, when Ms. Felthouse finally deems it’s time for the kink to kick in, she does it spectacularly. Only the most jaded and hardcore BDSM junkie would be disappointed by the pleasure-pain and humiliation scenes that grace the latter pages of Testing Tom.

I try not to be too persnickety about inconsequential features of a story that don’t resonate with me because I realize readers’ sensibilities vary greatly. Although I was put off a bit by the narrative’s middle class British tone because my own sensibilities are borderline-effete American, I enjoyed the book despite that minor disconnect. I have no compunction recommending Testing Tom to any fan of femdom, or to any reader who wants to sample the genre.

Review:

The Sweetest Revenge by Lucy Felthouse and illustrated by John LaChatte was not what I would truly call a BDSM themed book. The main character Abigail has the hots for a regular courier for her office who seems to have a rather harsh attitude towards others. This book has a couple of really hot short kink scenes that catches the reader’s attention but only for a brief moment in time. The single illustration in the book, though hot, and depicts the spankalicious scene a lot better than the author’s words seemed out of place to me. Furthermore, the short story leaves the story hanging in a very odd place.

There are two flash stories in Punish Me Good.  Both are femdom ones.  In Punish Me Good, Avery tops Malachi with a switch.  Malachi takes the harsh flesh breaking beating and continues with giving Avery a licking of his own.  This paranormal erotic flash story is hot and smexy.  Ms. Felthouse wastes not a word.  The reason why I call it a flash story is because it’s over in a blink of an eye.  This story is more a chapter than a full short story.  It’s a tasty appetizer.

The second flash story is called Trophy Boyfriend.  It’s a bit longer with a tad more back history.  I’m mixed about this story because it comes across rather shallow and calloused.  We never learn the woman’s name, but her trophy boyfriend is Ethan.  Poor Ethan is basically a dumb ox who is hot and great in bed.  The kinky sex as the climax was SugarKink all the way.  Too bad the reason for the sex is bittersweet.

Overall I found both flashy stories to be pleasantly sweet.  They are a teaser which makes me want to read a full length book by Ms. Felthouse.  I recommend this story to those who want to read a bit of light femdom.
