When you started writing, did you have any idea you’d be writing BDSM/kinky books? Do you write in any other genre?

I did not consider BDSM/kinky books when I first started writing. I originally tried penning YA action-adventure novels. The first book I wrote, Tomorrow Cries (which is not published under Michele Zurlo,) was a vampire novel. It took me almost four years to write that epic story and then trim it down into a manageable tale. Unfortunately, it came out at the height of the Twilight frenzy. Bad timing on my part–especially because my heroine was powerful and strong-willed. I recently self-published the prequel to that novel, and I have plans to continue writing in that series. I’ll include the address to that website in the links below. After I wrote Tomorrow Cries, I read my first erotic romance novel, thought I could do a better job, and so I wrote Letting Go. My Awakenings series is my most popular series to date. It’s the one I get the most emails about. While I have vague plans to continue that series, I’m focusing on expanding my Safe Word: Oasis series and my BDSM romantic suspense series (which doesn’t have a name because I can’t think of one.) Mina’s Heart (Safe Word: Oasis #5) is out March 19 and Re/Paired (Keith and Katrina’s story) will be out April 30.

Is there one area of BDSM that you tend to write about more? Why do you think that area creeps into your writing more than some others?

Summary:

Sabrina Spencer has it all—a loving husband, two wonderful children, and a successful career. So why does her husband think she’s not as happy as she could be? Jonas knows that Sabrina should love her life, but as the stress of “having it all” wears on her, he knows he has to do something. Surprising her with a trip to Elysium, a kinkster’s paradise, for their fifth anniversary seems like the perfect thing. From the beginning, this trip seems doomed. First she rejects the gift. When he finally gets her there and she agrees to spend five days as his complete submissive, he thinks he can finally show her how she can truly have it all. At first Sabrina enjoys submitting to the man she loves, but when it becomes too much and she shuts down, Jonas must use everything in his arsenal to break through to the woman who holds the keys to his heart.

Review:

Letting Go 2: Stepping Stones is the 5thbook in the Awakenings series by Michele Zurlo. This is set five years after the book Letting Go the first book in the Awakening series. While you don’t have to read the first book (or the rest if the series), it helps to understand all the characters in the book. Sabrina and Jonas now have been married 5 years and have 2 children. Sabrina is overwhelmed trying to juggle work and family life and Jonas is trying to help her.

Darcy is under suspicion regarding the disappearance of Scott, her former Master.  Malcolm is undercover and makes contact with her to try to get at one of her clients that may have had something to do with Scott’s disappearance.

Re Bound is a wonderful book for those of us that love a good BDSM story.  The author did a good job keeping my interest throughout the book.  There are a lot of twists and turns keeping the suspense going as you learn more about the case and about Victor, Scott and Darcy.  Malcolm realizes Darcy is innocent, but knows there are some major issues that are going to ‘hit the fan’ when Darcy finds out who he really is.

Malcolm is an interesting master, and how he goes about working with Darcy on some issues was intriguing.  I did have one issue with the story, but the author addressed it later that shows her understanding about how important communication is, especially defining hard and soft limits.  Malcolm was extremely safety conscious and it showed throughout the book.

This is one book that I will be reading again.  I am hoping that the author will make this a series or at least have a sequel so I can find out what happens with a couple of secondary characters.

Do you fantasize about the hot guy in the class you teach?  Does he make you stutter and lose all thoughts?  For Mia, Kaelen is this guy.  She’s finishing her last semester as a teaching assistant to a much loathed professor.  Kaelen is one of the older students; he is tall, hot and charming.  She can just tell women flock to him.  His flirty attitude with her flusters her every time.

To get Kaelen out of her system, Mia decides to buy a fantasy package from Oasis.  The company grants fantasies at a price.  The lengthy survey allows her to specify the kind of man she wants and what she wants him to do with her.  Kaelen is the model for the man she wants.  And a spanking is what she is going to hopefully receive.

This story was sweet and predictable.  It was predictable in the sense that the reader knew Kaelen would turn out to be the mystery stranger showing up at Oasis.  Since I’m starting in on book three and haven’t read the previous two books, I’m not sure if there is more about this mysterious fantasy fulfilling company.  What I do know is, I love the concept.  Oasis would be fun to work for as well as use for a fun filled vacation.  I’m leaning more towards working for since I already married the man of my dreams.

Sean and Marcella have worked together for a year and Marcella wants Sean to notice her. Sean is a well known Dom that does exhibitions for a fundraiser once a year. Marcella is a submissive, but knows that some things are just not for her.

I could not put this book down once I started to read By My Side. The author keeps you interested throughout the book and takes you on a very emotional journey with both Marcella and Sean. One thing that was clear throughout this book, compared to others, is the negotiations before and during the scenes to make sure Marcella is comfortable with what Sean is doing even as he is also testing her.

Marcella is a very strong lady which she has to be in her particular job. The author did a good job of showing how a working relationship can change when things become personal, especially within the BDSM community. I liked the author’s concept of granting fantasies and then she used the service as a safe word. I will be getting the first book in this series, as this book has me hooked. This is one I will be reading again.

Justin and Patricia are in a rut-one the size of the Grand Canyon. He works all the time, she cares for their two children and they no longer communicate. Sex between them is lackluster on the rare occasions when it occurs at all.

Desperate, Patricia contacts BDSM Club Oasis and applies for a BDSM fantasy of being kidnapped by a stranger and held as a love slave for a weekend. The problem is, her requirements for the stranger match Justin exactly. The club contacts him and he secretly takes DOM lessons so he can provide his wife with her fantasy and bring the spark back to their marriage.

This short story is about a couple who find their way back to each other after they learn to communicate through BDSM play. It is a short but satisfying read, with some hot sex, and a lot of emphasis on the give and take of sex play. Although most of the narration is done through Justin’s eyes, we also see how Patricia feels. The love between the two of them comes through even during their strained relationship and seeing them resolve their issues is comforting.

The book is part of the author’s Oasis series, and based on this entry, I would like to read others.
