While the premise of the book was interesting, the story didn’t live up to the idea.

Most of the first part of the story is focused on therapy sessions between Ramsey “Aries” Taylor and Dr. Jaxx Gavin. These sessions are slow and contribute to the feeling that the book dragged.

Aries is surprised by his passion for Jaxx, who has overcome a childhood carried out in foster care and adoptive parents who neglected her to become a therapist. She is smart and strong, but has issues with relationships. Aries also has issues, but he is still a caring, likeable Dom.

The sparks fly between the two but their relationship is not certain. Aries is keeping secrets that threaten Jaxx, who fears being abandoned. Can these two find happiness?

Other than the issues of a therapist having a relationship with a patient, I found this book just too long and it didn’t hold my interest. The hot sex scenes included bondage, spanking and exhibitionism.

The book had promise, but could have used some judicious editing.

I’m so excited to be here At BDSM Book Reviewers to celebrate this two year milestone with them. Congratulations and thanks for having me! LoveOfALifetime-600x900

Alrighty *cracks knuckles* It’s time to get down to business. I’m going to start with a riddle. Where can you find a persistent and seductive vampire Dom, his soul mate sub that says, “No” and their hot sexcapes that include auto-erotic asphyxiation?

In my latest release, Love Of A Lifetime.

Jack Midland has shared his mortal mate’s soul for hundreds of years and through each of her lifetimes. Only something bad happened in Finley last lifetime when she was taken from him too soon. So, now that he’s finally found her in this lifetime he has a short window of opportunity to do what he must to fulfill a prophecy but she’s not buying it. Hm…what’s a devious vampire Dom to do? Why use their physical attraction for one another against her until she changes her mind.

Unfortunately, that plan doesn’t play-out as smoothly as Jack would have liked. Because she may have been stuck in sexual overdrive, but ancient instincts take over for him when he finds himself behaving like Casanova on steroids. It’s a spectacular mess. J

How does Finley feel about Jack’s rather odd behavior? Here’s a snippet.

“Hey,” She turned back, speculatively eyeing him, “Why do you do that?”

“Do what?”

“You talk all weird sometimes. Formal Heathcliffy one moment, and then, you know,” she shrugged, “normal guy the next.”

“I hadn’t noticed.”

“Oh, come on. And I quote, ‘Once you are in the sanctuary of my embrace you will be blah, blah, blah.’”

It was his turn to speculatively eye her. He didn’t like the way she mimicked his voice either. He didn’t sound like Pee-Wee Herman. “It really is rather amazing how one can selectively remember only the good things about a person when they’re gone.”

“I’d quite forgotten all about your sharp little tongue.” He really hadn’t as her patented feistiness was a trait he loved in her, but he didn’t want her to know too soon. Because once she did, she always managed to use it to her best advantage when she wanted something. “Even faced with that barbed appendage I’m still glad you’re here.”

“You see? Another Heathcliff moment. Barbed appendage?” She snorted, trying to appear confident, but he knew she was more confused when she twisted the edge of the sheet that was bunched just above her breasts a few times before she shook her head and said, “Sorry.”

“I think it’s safe to say we’re both confused. We’ve never had to do this before.”

(end of snippet)

Oh and how does she feel about having more than just his teeth at her throat?

“Mmm…” Finley rubbed her chin over his rock-hard pec. “That was—” Her eyes snapped opened and she was sure her lashes tickled his chest as she rapidly blinked. Too stunned to move. Speak.

“Sensational?” He offered. His voice rolling over her like deep and distant thunder. No, like a lightning bolt that zapped her right out of her daze when she pushed off him.

Leaning back, she scowled. “You strangled me.”

“Strangled?” He made a dubious face. “If I did then I’d be looking a crime scene and that’s not what I see before me. I see—” he growled and tried to wrap his arms around her again, but she was having none of that. She didn’t care how dead-sexy he looked with his hair rumpled and his chin and jaw covered in five o’clock shadow.

“Don’t play semantics with me.” Her hand went to her throat, checking to make sure…well, she wasn’t sure what she was checking on exactly, but everything seemed fine there. “Y-you choked me.”

“I did.”

That assurance had her frowning at his mouth for a few seconds, unsure if she’d heard him correctly. If she had, the guy had just admitted to a felony. At least she thought it was a felony. “You can’t do that. It’s against the law.”

“No sex act is against the law when it happens behind closed doors between two consenting adults.”

She gasped. “Who consented?” When phrases like ‘be my cage’, ‘imprison me’ and ‘overwhelm me’ echoed in her mind, she blurted, “I didn’t consent.”

He grinned. And one word was riding it. Liar.

Jo wants Ted, but he wants nothing to do with her because he knows she is different and could crack his veneer. Joe goes out of her way to make sure she gets what she wants.

I really enjoyed this story even though there were some uncomfortable moments for me. There were times when I wanted to slap both Jo and Ted. Ted seemed to be insensitive in a few areas, and Jo, because she wasn’t willing to reveal her own issues that ultimately had a very big affect on both of them. I felt the author did a great job with how she handled the whole story. Be aware the issue of date-rape is addressed so be careful if this will trigger issues in the reader.

Be prepared for some very hot scenes between the two. The author did a great job of describing the scenes as well as some of the toys and the bed in Ted’s playroom. The bed is something I would love to recreate if I had room for it.

I did have to laugh at some of Jo’s behavior as it went a little beyond bratty. I did think Ted had some very creative techniques to deal with them. There were also times when I wanted to cry, but this is one book I got upset when interrupted while reading, as I did not want to put it down.

Reluctant Surrender by Riley Murphy

A tightly wound woman with a secret persona meets a prominent Dom who’s itching to make her unravel.

Renowned Dom Ethan White offers straitlaced Colin Reneaux an escape from her conventional life. Reluctant at first, she eventually agrees to explore her secret desires with BDSM tapas—small bites of erotic D/s scenarios featuring Ethan as her captor, boss, interrogator, professor and Master. Each eye-opening and sex-fueled scene leaves her more breathless than the last.

Ethan’s surprised to find himself challenged by Colin’s strength. He quickly connects with her inner submissive, drawing them deeper into the D/s dynamic. Soon she becomes the woman he swore he’d never need, and he, the Master she craves. Together they find the perfect balance…until someone from Ethan’s past returns, someone bent on revenge. Ethan’s left with no choice. He must break Colin’s heart to save her from the vengeance that threatens her dream.

But Colin has other ideas. Like whose heart should break and who should ultimately surrender…

Fabulous!  Riley Murphy did a great job with the chemistry between Ethan and Colin.  The story is filed with heat and sex without overtaking the plot.  And the sex scenes were hot and steamy.

The author did a great job showing that being a submissive is not the same as being a doormat to someone.  While I was not happy with how Jade came into the story and how that part of the story unfolded, it did nothing to detract from the overall story line.

Reclaimed Surrender by RileyMurphy

Things take a sizzling turn when Rene Tanner finds himself neck-deep in marital unbliss. He’s fully prepared to do whatever it takes to reclaim his wife’s surrender. The way he sees it? He’s been putting her on a pedestal when all she really wanted—needed—was for Rene to put her on her knees. Alexis Tanner has felt alone and unfulfilled for quite a while. So when her marriage counselor suggests a week of “As You Wish” therapy, she’s expecting to be wooed with chocolates and flowers. Instead she winds up in leather restraints and a silver collar. Now she must surrender to her darkestdesires—or be forced to let Rene go forever.

Don’t miss out on this book.  Reclaimed Surrender made me laugh, it made me cry, and it made me really think about relationships.  This book had me hooked from beginning to end.  When I finished it, I was craving more of the story yet I was still analyzing pieces of this one – mulling them over.

Ok, we already know I loved this story.  Alexis and Rene have been together several years and in the last while, real life has gotten in the way of BDSM life.  Now, Rene is going to try and reclaim his wife and see if they can get back what is lost. This storyline really hits home for me, and I think it will for a lot of readers as well –whether in a BDSM relationship or just thinking about it.  There are times in life where we have to put on different hats and something we feel like we get lost in the shuffle.  I know as a submissive that I put all those hats on first and don’t think about myself or what I want.  In that respect and many others, I really could relate to Alexis and her struggles.

Reclaimed Surrender is a must read for anyone that wants to know more about making a long-term BDSM relationship work.  If you are looking fora  lot of sex within the pages, it doesn’t happen until later, but that doesn’t mean the first part of the book is any less erotic or exciting.  I can’t wait to read more from Riley Murphy.  She created characters that I can relate to on many levels and I was so drawn into Reclaimed Surrender that several days later I am still thinking about it and can’t wait to reread it and see what I might have missed the first time.
