A few years ago while I languished in a conservative southern seminary, I started a little hobby to keep me from climbing the walls. Instead of losing my mind, I started writing erotica as a way to quietly subvert the draconian rules imposed upon us students—no drinking, no partying, no fucking.

 So instead of fucking in bed, I fucked on paper. I’d never done real kink before, but for some reason my early sex scenes all involved elements of dominance and submission. The more I wrote, the more power play seeped into my stories. When the time came to start writing my first real novel THE SIREN, I knew my main character needed to be a Dominatrix with a Switch side. I did what any writer does when needing to research a book—I got on the internet. I found a website called Bondage.com and joined. I set up a profile and started talking to people. I labeled myself a sub who wasn’t looking for a partner simply so I could talk to Dominants without them trying to get me into bed.
