Porn stars are frequently considered as whores because they make money having sex. When BDSM is added to the mix, it only makes people assume the worst about the BDSM porn star.  Ferron Cooper considers herself to be a bondage model, even if she is filmed in bondage whilst enjoy multiple orgasms. Whatever she wants to call herself doesn’t mean squat when a male fixates on her and plans for her abduction and sexual slavery.

I’ve read a couple of Ms. Harper’s earlier non-con stories and they didn’t do much for me. The reason was because she blurred the lines between non-con and romance of it so that it became conflicted and unsatisfying. In this one, it’s wonderful to see how she’s straddled the line and created an erotic non-con romance. Is there such a thing?  Yes, there is and it’s not because the female experiences Stockholm syndrome.

The BDSM scenes in this story are definitely spank-worthy. For those who fantasize about forced orgasms and bondage, this story is for you. Ferron is bound, gagged and sexually violated to the orders of her owner. This bastard is from her past, waiting for just the right time to mete his revenge out on her. Because there are two different men involved in this story, it draws the boundaries between the non-con and the erotic sexual assaults. Even the erotic sex are deliciously rough. The BDSM heat is about medium in intensity and well written. Ferron’s inner dialog and her responses makes the story more enjoyable. From a non-con perspective, Ms. Harper could have upped the cruelty more and it would have made the book more guiltily arousing.

The characters, Ferron and her captor, Mayer, are both simple characters. There is a little character development to help explain why Ferron decided to go into bondage modeling. Just as the reason for Mayer’s part in this kidnapping and breaking is revealed. Whilst this builds some back history, it doesn’t really develop the character by showing a flaw which they overcome or somehow grow from their experiences. Still, this doesn’t detract from the story since the focus is really on the depraved non-con scenes. This erotic sexual slavery is recommended for kinky readers who enjoy kidnapping fantasies.

Fantasizing about a man taking you hard and in a primal manner?  Riane Coello is a business woman used to working long hours with high stress.  For once, she’d like a man to take her roughly and hold her down.  When a chance meeting with a man during a jog takes her breath away, she wants more.

Ms. Harper pens a lovely bit of sexual fantasy.  The switching back and forth between reality and Riane’s imagined desires is a nice touch.  The characters in this story are straightforward with little development.  The focus is on their sexual chemistry and it is delightful.  The imagery is vivid as these two strangers go wild.

There is no real conflict in this story.  This is a what if story.  What if one moment in time makes such an impact that it is a life changing event?  Is this for the good or for the bad? It’s tightly written with a smooth finish from beginning to end.  The ending does leave it open for a possible follow up with Riane and her dominating new lover.

This short story an erotic teaser for those who enjoy a bit of kink with their one night stand.  Recommended for kinky readers who enjoy fantasies coming to life.

In purely psychological terms, Freud was a nut.  In 1908, he declared that, “a happy person never fantasizes, only a dissatisfied one.” NakedNights_200x300

Fortunately, a great deal has changed since those uninformed days thanks to such experts as psychologists Harold Leitenberg and Kris Henning who conducted extensive studies on peoples’ sexual fantasies.  Their conclusion: only about 5% of people don’t dream up sexy romps.  In fact, it’s now considered pathological not to.

Whew!  Good news for me because I write about sexual fantasies—specifically BDSM and capture/bondage because frankly that’s what turns me on.

And I’m not alone by a long shot. Psychiatrist Ethel Person of Columbia University reported that 51 percent of women imagine being forced to have sex and another third get off on pretending to be a slave who must obey a man’s every wish.

So why do scenes full of ropes and chains touch so many people’s hot buttons including mine?  Why do my self-published Carnal Slave, Carnal Lesson, Carnal Captive, Her Submission, and Naked NIghts sell so well?

As Leitenberg and Henning said, “Women who find submission fantasies sexually arousing are very clear that they have no wise to be raped in reality.  In their fantasies, women control every aspect of what happens.”

According to the article, “Power, Desire, and Pleasure in Sexual Fantasies” by Eileen Zurbriggen in the Aug, 2004 Journal of Sex Research, women who fanaticize about submission have a more positive attitude about sex and are less sexually guilty and more open to a variety of sexual experiences.

Why is that?  Blame or credit the brain.  The brain is as potent a sexual organ as the genitalia.  As a result, our imagination allows us to safely and privately explore our sexuality.  No one is going to judge or criticize our thoughts.  We can let them run wild—or handcuff and hog-tie them if we so choose.

I’ll choose the handcuffs.  And throw in a blindfold and dildo for my helpless, writhing, and over-the-top excited female captive while I’m at it.  And, most important, add a male hunk who can’t keep his hands off her helpless body.  As Leitenberg and Henning put it, “Women tend to envision something being done to them and to concentrate more on their partner’s interest in her.”

In his Psychology Today article, “The Safest Sex—Sexual Fantasies”, Peter Doskoch maintains that men have Playboy to prime their pumps while women turn to the “cookie-cutter” Harlequin romances which always include an emotional, passionate romance for mental and otherwise stimulation.  Well, guess what.  Those vanilla romances aren’t enough as witness by erotic’s phenomenal success .

It took me a while to get past my conservative upbringing but with every BDSM/capture/bondage (that’s a mouthful) story I write, I hopefully grow as a writer and a woman.

My most recent Carnal ebook is Naked Nights/Submission’s Ride. Why the dual name? Well for reasons I couldn’t get a clear answer to, Amazon decided Submission’s Ride, “contains content that is in violation of our content guidelines.” I didn’t have a problem with Barnes & Noble, Kobo, or All Romance Ebooks so kept Submission’s Ride there. A cover and title change to Naked Nights and I was back with Amazon but don’t tell them.

Basically the same blurb worked on all venues: UnchainedJourney_200x300

Submit to a man? Never. Or so jockey Marina believes until the day former football player Tray kidnaps her and takes her to a Carnal training facility. No longer free, she must bow to Tray’s determination and strength. Must accept the harsh yet arousing training regimen designed to turn her into a true submissive.

Tray spent years being viewed as a piece of healthy, powerful meat. Now it’s his turn to dominate. Teaching the lovely trainee to embrace a new way of life excites and challenges him. He will change her! Make her his.

They begin as strangers, one dominant, the other a helpless captive. Will Marina continue to see Tray as her captor or will he become something more? Something that transforms both of them.

I’ll be giving away a PDF file of Naked Nights. All you have to do to be in the running is make a comment here hopefully about how BDSM/capture speaks to you.

Clouds darken. Lightning sears the dying day. Savage energy overwhelms logger Deon Coleman. A beer at the small-town bar isn’t enough. He needs to dominate and rule. Only stripping Marah Quinn naked and wrapping her in his ropes will satisfy the fierce creature he has become.

Instead of fearing this powerful man from her past, Marah surrenders her body to him. She has no choice. The storm has changed her. The night closes around Deon’s log cabin.  A door locks. No longer a modern, independent woman, she has become a submissive kneeling before her dom.

This story was a very nice romance, and was a well written quick read.  The author built the story slowly but it ended too soon.  At the end  you are led to believe that this couple has a chance beyond their one night together.

The main characters took no responsibility toward their actions during the events that led up to the one BDSM scene and after the storm started. They blamed the weather for “making” them what they became just for that night. Personally I like my characters to take ownership of what they do.

Meet Vonna Harper and check out her “Carnal” series!

When you first started writing, did you have any idea you’d be writing BDSM/kinky books? Do you write in any other genre?

No, I didn’t. I started out writing category romance under my real name so that’s where my mindset was. Then life happened, including meeting Kate Douglas who introduced me to erotica. My first eroticas were sexed up category romances but I sensed I wanted to go deeper—to explore a personal fantasy of mine.

Are you actively involved in BDSM? If so how do you identify yourself? Dom(me)/sub? Top/bottom? Switch?

At what point did you decide you wanted to write BDSM/kinky-themed erotica?

It was probably a combination of needing to challenge myself and that personal fantasy I mentioned earlier. Capture/prisoner/hostage elements are a turn-on for me. I tiptoed into that arena with my Ellora’s Cave story Forced. http://www.jasminejade.com/p-5333-forced.aspx That was years ago and it remains my best-selling book there. Oh, I thought, readers like the same thing I do.

Do you write BDSM/kink erotica based on what you find interesting or sexy, or do you write more for your audience?

A combination. Capture-kink is a turn-on for me and I’m discovering I’m not the only one. This might sound funny but these days I feel safe writing my particular kink where not that many years ago, I wouldn’t have known my stories would be embraced by so many readers.

Do you do any “hands-on” research when you’re writing BDSM/kinky themed erotica?

Sad to say, no. It all takes place in my unmanageable brain.

What is your favorite fetish? Why?

Capture hands down. The idea of being kidnapped and held for ransom or—and here’s where I’ve been venturing with my writing—being turned into a sex slave. Or I should say, have a powerful man turn my female captive into a sex slave. That’s what led me to self-publish three linked Carnal stories available on Amazon.

Carnal Captive is  http://www.amazon.com/Carnal-Captive-ebook/dp/B006UWPIRW/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1326058507&sr=1-1

Carnal Slave is http://www.amazon.com/Carnal-Slave-ebook/dp/B007WWBBGG/ref=sr_1_3?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1339872646&sr=1-3&keywords=Carnal+lesson

And the slightly shorter Carnal Lesson is http://www.amazon.com/Carnal-Lesson-ebook/dp/B007D926SA/ref=sr_1_2?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1339872646&sr=1-2&keywords=Carnal+lesson

What might be something of interest to your fans that you don’t think they know about you?

My grandfather Homer Eon Flint www.HomerEonFlindt.com was a multi-published writer. How I would have loved talking shop with him.

At this point in your career, do you think you’ll write more BDSM/kinky erotica?

Oh yes. No question there.

When you’re writing BDSM/kinky-related erotica, is there a particular movie or music that you might watch or listen to that helps you get in that frame of mind?

Not a movie or music, but I’ve spent a lot of time at www.kink.com looking at their videos. Pant, pant.

If someone new to your work is going to start with a story, which one would you recommend they read first?

Maybe Stormlocked with Loose-id which combines a mysterious storm with some BDSM play. http://www.loose-id.com/Stormlocked.aspx

Who is your favorite BDSM/kinky author? Movie?

Claire Thompson. IMO her books are as much about the emotions of her characters as what’s going on physically.

Carnal Captive by Vonna Harper

Sting (kink) Factor: 4 out of 5

Story Rating: 2 out of 5 Paddles

Human trafficking is a popular theme as of late.  I’m not sure if it is because it titillates or because it is a reflection upon our current society.  In Carnal Captive, we meet Shari Isle who is a struggling artist with c-cup boobs and a runner’s body.  She’s the one who is captured by Carnal Incorporated to be turned into a sex slave.  Bay Dennan is the rich man who wants a plaything to control.  His life consisted of being told what to do and someone else calling the shots.  Now he finally possesses the power to control someone else’s life.

This concept is good.  The non-consensual theme is a favourite of mine to read.  Ms. Harper creates some plausible scenarios in which a woman can be kidnapped.  The breakdown and training of Shari is detailed and graphic at times.  This story is less about the BDSM lifestyle and more about using sexual torture and beatings to force dehumanize of a woman.  The woman is nothing more than fuck meat.  She exists as three holes for her Master to poke.

I rated this book as four paddles for the Kinky factor because it definitely delivers in the sexual scenes.  The humiliation and sexual training Shari goes through is pretty hot.  The two male breakers, Reno and Damek, used different yet effective styles to force a desired behaviour from Shari.  The cage, whippings, nipple clamps and edging where all lovely.  A couple of them did come across as more clinical than carnal.  I would have enjoyed the bad cop and good cop routine from them.  While Reno was the one more controlled and Damek was the barely suppressed enraged monster, the distinction between the two was not enough.  Or perhaps I should state, not as much as what I think Ms. Harper was trying to show.

My overall rating ends at two paddles because this story was just okay for me.  The constant changing point of view from Reno to Damek then to Shari was distracting.  I recommend the point of view switch only once per chapter.  Personally, I prefer only one point of view, at most, two.  This pulls me out of the story as I had to re-read to ensure I understood who thought was being presented.  Adding in Bay with his thoughts increased the jumble of voices fighting to be heard.  What mainly brought this book rating to okay where two items.

First, this book is supposed to be non consensual with a guilty pleasure feeling.  There was a distinct line between good versus bad.  Or at least it could have been.  It seemed to me Ms. Harper was trying to create characters that were dancing in the grey – not fully bad and not fully good.  This is a hard character building technique.  It didn’t quite work out this way in the book.  From what I could see, Reno and Bay experienced guilt for what they did.  They had to keep rationalize in their head that it was okay.  This guilt didn’t do it for me.  If Ms. Harper was trying to bring the grey shades in, my recommendation is writing the character with plausible justification for what is clearly wrong can be shown as right.  This is what would have made me shiver in delight.  Reno had to believe what he was doing was right and show how it can be good.  It probably would have made me like Reno better.

Second, the ending of the story made me go WTF.  It ended abruptly for me and the resolution or should I say, Bay’s guilty conscience killed my libido.  It basically completely invalidated the storyline for me.  What I would have liked to see is Bay using Shari’s passion for life against her.  Basically control her in this manner and doling out sweet torturous sexual pleasure in exchange for good behaviour.  My recommendation may be predictable but it would have been more satisfying for me.  I recommend this story for those who enjoy non consensual.

The genre of fantasy BDSM spans the range from the popular Anne Rice stories to the many amateur attempts found online. The first few paragraphs of this novella worried me a bit, as they seemed to be setting up cardboard characters that would go through predictable motions with visible strings controlling them. Having heard good things about Vonna Harper, I was a bit disappointed, especially by the continuity problems in the opening battle (Ms. Harper, please get a new editor, one who can count).

But the job of a reviewer is to read the whole story. And I’m glad I kept going, because once you get a few pages into the story it’s well worth it. Set in a pre-historic land where tribes battle for supremacy, the resident Otu are contesting the newly arrived Waban.

Sora, a warrior of the Otu, has been sent on a secret mission that is set up by the opening battle, and her choreographed defeat at the hands of the numerically superior Waban puts her in the hands of Hakan, the Waban war leader. Of course, this being a good BDSM story, both tribes keep and train sex slaves for the warriors, and the Waban consider themselves to be the best at conditioning women for constant service.

And this is what Sora expects, and was prepared for. What she isn’t prepared for is being claimed by Hakan personally. And in the days that she travels as his captive back to the Waban camp, she learns things about her sexual needs that shake her self control. And she comes to see that the control with Hakan has over his men is through courage and wisdom. Hakan is also very clever about waking up her denied lusts; as an experienced Dom, Uncle Folly found his methods not only plausible but quite skilled.

Drawing out the buried sexual and emotional needs of a woman who has denied herself pleasure is an art form, and this story could be used as a reference work.

The evolving political plot is not only credible, but the ways that Sora and Hakan begin to trust each other, and then support each other through the turmoil at the Waban camp is believable. So are their emotional and sexual reactions. I don’t want to ruin this story for you by revealing the story arc. This is one of those rare fantasy BDSM stories that will excite your lusts and engage your mind. I recommend it highly.
